We have reportedly signed Paul McCallum from Leyton Orient, he was their top scorer last season with 10 L2 goals in a relegated team..
He's only 23yrs old, so not our usual policy....

sounds unlikely - he's a good 10 years too young for an Eastleigh signing...

He's an interesting one, he's a good goal poacher/scorer if given chances.

However he is one of those strikers who can divide opinion amongst fans as he "doesn't runaround enough" he can appear lazy at times and clearly downed tools last season for us when we had Alberto Cavasin in charge, which led to our fans really getting on his back.

He suffered a nasty ACL injury and missed the virtually yhe whole of the 2015/16 season from September onwards and he was slow getting back to fitness.

He missed 3 months of this season as well with bad injury, there are a few question marks over his fitness for me.

Will be very interesting to see how he performs at a stable club, there is a good goalscorer in there but he must add more to his all round game. Looks like Andy Hessenthaler still sees enough in him to sign him again.

He will get booed by our fans next season should we play you, mainly because there were times when he would come across as stroppy and petulant on and off the pitch.

On 2nd thoughts - If he's injured a lot he is a typical Eastleigh signing after all.....

Thanks for the info, Terminator.
We had Jamie Slabber a few years back, who also didnt run around alot, but stuck the ball in the net consistently for us. We have been used to the opposite type of striker, who does run around alot but doesn't score any goals with James Constable, so this will be a refreshing change.
We are in for 3 new strikers, so still 2 more to come.
What's your thoughts on Ollie Palmer, who was very decent at this level with Grimsby?

Paul McCallum will score goals at this level if given the service. Excellent in the area both on the floor and in the air, really not so good outside the area and given his height I hoped he would be a better target for long balls than he was.

In terms of being a poacher he brings so much more than Ollie Palmer it's not even close. Palmer runs around a lot and his endeavour can not be faulted but he doesn't have the preditorial instincts of McCallum and apart from being a #goodhonestpro lacks genuine quality. Would be a sound player at this level but I would take McCallum every day of the week.

He'll do well at this level, not a top end League Two striker - His game is better based for the National League, he'd be a good addition for anyone at this level.

We've signed James Jennings and Chris Holroyd. Very happy with Jennings on another 2 years deal but Holroyd is just meh. Good decision to only give him a 1 year deal.

Holroyd works hard but lacks any real quality. Been a good servant here so all the best to him.

Holroyd's an average Conference striker. Quick and skilful but doesn't have a great goalscoring record for his time at Macc. Good luck to him though, he always tries his best and works hard for the team.

Macc play 442 or 433? I hope we have someone else lined up to be the main man up front..

Either 4-5-1 or 4-3-3 usually with two wingers used as the wider players rather than 3 strikers.

What's Holroyd like playing wide in a 433?

Jennings on a two year is ace news.

Happy with these two signings. I don't think Holroyd will be the main target man - he'll perhaps work off a big striker? Jennings is a great addition to the defence..

We'd been playing him down the middle but he's probably better on the right of a 4-4-3 if that's what you're playing.

I believe Keates has said he'd like play 433. Not surprising given thats the formation that brought us most success in this league back when he was playing.

Taking it back to 2011.

And so it begins.

They will all be gone I'd assume. It will be like this every year until we have an adequate owner, who isn't simply waiting for us to go bust. I'm not getting a season ticket for the first time in 16 years, and neither are the people I usually go to games with. I'm not even sure I will bother going to games at all.

Good luck to Jordan White. He had an horrific illness all pre-season and didn't play til November I think, even then just limited appearances.

Finally started to play regular full matches towards the end of the season and scored 5 in 5.

Very happy with Jennings, fairly happy with Holroyd.

If Barrow get the Jordan White from the last 7 games of last season they've got a proper striker.

Interesting signing, and I'm sure he'll be good for us. We're alright for strikers though, so wouldn't necessarily think he'll be an automatic starter.
Just short of a keeper, five defenders, two wingers, and two midfielders...

I thought White started to look quite good by the end of the season. It will be interesting to see how he is with a proper preseason and match fitness.

Cox thinks because White is tall that he's a big physical centre forward doesn't he?

Clearly he's signed him as a replacement for Livesey

Not necessarily - Bennett is our other tall striker, and he's more about his all-round game than aerial battles. White will be direct competition for him, so will probably expect him to do a similar job.

Contrary to popular belief we don't really lump it up to a forward (we did that much more when we had Cook) as we haven't had a proper combative striker - our long balls are usually down the wings.

Think this puts to bed any Rhead rumours, thankfully.
