£50,000 so yeah you got a good deal - but not the cheeky £8,000 you originally offered.....
He's too good for Carlisle - you'll have him for one season unless you get promoted as he's too good for L2.
6'3" strong, good 1st touch and a handful for defenders.
Good in the air and has a decent shot on him.

Was £50k after the cheeky £8k bid unsettled him (ya bastards). His agent seemingly didn't want to know, even though we'll have just about matched Carlisle's offer.

But anyway, yes, I think he's got enough about him to make a go of it. Looked much improved by the end of the season, and even better again when pre-season kicked off. He'll scuff the odd easy chance and go to ground/get involved in niggly shenanigans, but he can strike a ball. He's a big lad, but his game is more about having the ball at his feet and cutting inside. Gutted to have lost him, as we're really fucked now.

Have Barrow reigned in their spending? You don't seem to be signing players if the calibre you are losing?

We're never going to be able to sign players with much of a reputation already, and some of the new recruits are potentially very astute signings, but the worry is that we have a squad of 13 fit players and a week and a half to go!

Hard to say what the financial situation is, because we're still giving out £1,000 a week to new signings such as Asa Hall, but chairman doesn't seem to be backing the manager by signing all the players he wants.

It is starting to look like we'll struggle a bit this year.

Hmmm interesting. With Barrow, Dover and Gateshead not looking as strong on paper (and no idea what Macclesfield will be like as always) and a few of the mod table teams seemingly strengthening it's going to be a very interesting league this year.

Too good for us? Well I'm sure our release clause on him will be far higher than a measly 50k.

Nah but I am kind of sorry that we have poached one of you're best players as I do want you to join us in the football league someday and the sooner the better, but we need to keep our own promotion hopes alive and this does sound like a quality signing.

I think he's wrong about Bennett being too good for L2 - in many ways he's very much a non-league standard of player. The clause was reasonable considering we signed him from Northwich, and that he probably only signed for us because of it.
I hope Bennett does well, but we saw fans getting on his back a bit here last season - I fear for him if he hits a bit of a drought next season.

Sounds like typical Barrow to me.

I thought you were genuinely looking to try and get back in the league after so so long being out.

Is your owner losing interest?

I think he still 'wants' to get us back in the league, but didn't realise the scale of the job off the pitch.
Possibly losing interest a bit, disheartened by the constant criticism despite us just having our best-ever non-league finish. I can see both sides though, and some of the criticism is very much justified.

How is your club financially?

All Macc seasons are exactly the same. You'll start off decent, play good football and be in the playoffs around February/March time with everyone saying how good Askey does "on a shoestring" etc. Then you'll start to fade away and eventually finish 10th.

Yep, nailed it but with your timing slightly late. A major cause of this is teams strengthen around January when we don't/lose players. Then our small squad suffers towards end of season.

Ssshhh don't say that, you'll kill our season ticket sales, I've heard they're close to hitting 3 figures already!

You forgot to add that they'll have the buckets out again next summer and be 'minutes' from liquidation.

Just signed Rory Fallon on non-contract terms. Fans kicking off saying it's a major embarrassment etc.

Think it's a bit of an overreaction seeing as he won't be getting a weekly wage, as such. Would rather Fallon than some of the other non-contract shite we've had in recent years.

That's nailed two of the four seasons under JA. The other two we started pretty terribly - 3 points from the first 9 games and 4 points from the first 6 games. I think with this many new players and a difficult start where we're likely to lose early games such as Wrexham away, Hartlepool, Sutton and Gateshead away etc., I can see it being a very slow start.

Declan Weeks has signed for us, left Southport at the end of the season and looked good on trial for us.

Didn't Rory Fallon sign for Curzon Ashton over the summer?!

I think we established there are two of them! No idea which is which, but one of them went to the World Cup with New Zealand. And is dog shit.

It seems you've had pretty much everything you've built up over the past couple of seasons ripped away from you.

Good to hear, will be interesting if he'll be able to get in front of McQuilkin or Croasdale.

Well two of his midfield colleagues from last season are Liam Nolan (now at Accrington), and Jordan Lussey (on trial at Barnet following a trial at Coventry). Declan was the better footballer of the three IMO. If he can't get a game then it's a waste of his talent.

Only in the past week or so has it felt like that - recruitment has grinded to a halt, and key players unlikely to be replaced in time.

I think it's dramatic to say it's been ripped away, and equally over-dramatic of me to say we're fucked. The most telling point of the season will come when we have to replace Cox (left or fired), and we'll see what calibre of manager comes in.
