Coutinho or Barkley.

Who would you sooner have in your lineup?

You're welcome. I'm going to try and dig up some more outdated stats to try and help your cause. Stay tuned.

Koeman gives Barkley until next weekend to sign the deal on offer or he'll be sold. Definitely the right attitude, as already discussed in this thread, he's not all that and would struggle to get into sides competing in the Champions League.

The lack of interest from elsewhere despite only having 12 months left on his contact and him deliberately dragging his heels with the new deal in an attempt to attract bigger clubs is telling.

Barkley going to Spurs for £45 million plus Rose. Not surprising with only Lampard in his league at this age.

Sure.

Not exactly the standard of links Coutinho is getting though is it. ;)
According to some on here who shall remain nameless, he is going to the second best team in the best league in the world.

Coutinho again running the show in a big pressure game. Give it time Ross, it might happen to you some day.

In my opinion they should now call West Ham "the pressure valve" because they seemed to exist solely for the purpose of relieving the pressure on Liverpool today.

Coutinho faces bigger pressure in training exercises than he did today in the match against "the pressure valve".

West Ham basically stood aside and told Coutinho to "have a good time".

Boro will be a tougher test imo.
100% agree would say we are slight underdogs on the day actually and considering where we were at the start of the season a draw isn't such a horrible result you know. For example we drew at home to Middlesbrough in our home opener in 2008 and that year we finished second so it's definitely ok to draw against them I would say.

A few stories this morning linking with Coutinho with Barca again following the performance yesterday.

I'd be genuinely concerned about losing him if I thought for one second he was anywhere near good enough to get in the starting 11 for Barcelona. Hes arguably our best player (maybe Mane) and we definitely can't afford to lose him but he isn't consistent enough. He'll have a run of four or five games where you think hes finally making that step up to the "world class" player Sky Sports insist on telling us he is and then he goes back into a lull for the next 5.

He was brilliant yesterday but you could put half that performance down to West Ham rolling over. Potentially a great player but he isn't there yet.

I agree with all of this, I don't think he'll leave either. The bottom line is that he's not quite there yet to be worth the money we'd be asking, because we'd demand over £60M and for that money you want a world class player, which Coutinho isn't. And with the wages Barca are paying already it's not like they can piss it up the wall.

Yeah agree entirely; he isn't Barca standard just yet, but if he can get a full season behind him playing the form he's shown at the start of the season and now presently, then I can see a move there happening at the end of next season.

The best case scenario for Coutinho I guess is that his early season form (along with the past few games) is his real level and the slump was down to the injury he picked up. But yeah he will have to keep it up for a full season for the Spaniards to come calling.

Yeah the slump was just him getting his confidence back post-injury. He did take quite a while to get over it, but being involved with Brazil these days seems to be really pushing him on, and after he came back from the last round of qualifiers with them, he's back hitting top form.

Coutinho will never go to Barca with their current line up. Even with vast improvement to break that attacking trio you need to be amongst a handful of the best players in the world. MSN are generally considered 3 of the top 5 players in the world. He'll never be as good as any of those 3, nobody from this league will. So unless Neymar does go in a silly money deal or Barca decide they want Coutinho out of position for a midfield role instead of Rakitic, which would make no sense theres no justification for them to want him for anything more than a squad role and that'd be shit for him.

Could play him in Rakitic's role, or perhaps a fading Iniesta. No one is getting in that front three, even Mbappe at the moment.

You could but there are better options about if you want someone in that role. One being to stick with Rakitic.

Its all conjecture anyway, he's not moving this summer. We'll revisit this no doubt this time next season when it could happen.

Anyway, he's still miles ahead of Barkley anyway. ;)

I am sure Coutinho knows he can't displace the MSN. Unfortunately, playing Coutinho deeper from now on (as Klopp said) could really seal his move to Barcelona sooner rather than later. Especially if he keeps playing well (hopefully not just to get the move!). Current Barcelona midfield (Rakitic, Gomes, Turan, Denis Suarez) is pretty poor relative to other major European clubs competing in CL imo. Coutinho could easily challenge those players for a place in the first team even at his current level.

Yeah, but we would charge them between 60 and 70 million. That's a shitload, they could get almost any centre mid in the world for that barring from their closest rivals. Coutinho just isn't there yet. Plus, looking at that central midfield it can be improved but Coutinho isn't the type of player they really need.
