.......Or, 'Saying hello'.

I just thought I'd put a little message here to introduce myself. Looking forward to getting into the conversation.

Do you, by any chance, support Cornish independence?

Well Steve, that's quite a question to ask somebody when they're saying hello on a football forum, but I'll answer it anyway.

Cornish independence is not really a major issue, not even here in beautiful Kernow. Sure, there is an independence party, Mebyon Kernow and they have a fair bit of support, but their principal aim is not necessarily full independence, rather a regional assembly similar to that of Wales and Scotland. This, in my opinion, is a reasonable thing to aspire to. Kernow is recognised by the United Nations as a Celtic Nation and the Council of Europe gave the Cornish people Special Minority status which gives us parity with the Welsh and Scots.

We have our own regional identity, flag, national anthem, language, culture, history and our even own Patron Saint, all of these things being quite distinct from those of other parts of England.

So yes, I would like to see a regional assembly in the future, but I personally view the possibility of becoming an independent country as very remote.

Nice saying hello to you. I'm sure we'll talk football some time in the future.

Welcome along!

Love getting down to Cornwall, although coming from the Dorset seaside I appreciate how the locals may feel about grockles....!

I'm South London (Greenwich) born and raised, Etienne. I've posted in the "why do you support your club" thread, which explains everything. Moved to Kernow after graduating from uni in 2005 having obtained work here and as Tivvyultras will, I'm sure, tell you, there is no more beautiful part of our country than the wonderful West Country. I've completely fallen in love with the place and have embraced my new home completely. I'm even learning the language..!!

Good luck in your play off final today. I hope your team wins.

Regards

Fair enough!

You don't have to tell me how it is to move somewhere prettier and quieter (not to mention cheaper) than London. Thankfully the language here is a little easier than Cornish.

At least if we don't go up today, we'll have our usual 4-6 points to look forward to from our neighbours :cool1:

I was born and raised in Middlesex but moved down here and I agree with my near neighbour down here is spectacular but can also be very bleak once the groggles go back

Greetings from Lower Saxony to Cornwall. Or to call it in my hometown speech "Moin, Moin"

Cornwall isn't that the place where the Rosamunde Pilcher "novels" are playing? Beautiful landscape as far as I have seen (yeah, I watched some of these "films"..better saying, had to watch it ;) )

That's our steven. Never a man who talks bollocks

That's interesting. I didn't know that and I like that. Regional identity is important, we have the same here in parts of Lower Saxony (own anthem "Niedersachsen-Lied", own language (plattdüütsch, in parts of the country although more and more dying)

Anyway. I see that you already made quite an impression here. Keep upthe good work.!

Thank you for those nice words kind sir.

Yes, the Rosamunde Pilcher novels (some written in a pen name of Jane Fraser) did a lot of good for Cornwall and Devon tourism, a major source of income for the region. It's nice to see her work is enjoyed so much in Germany.

Another novellist who situated a lot of her best work in Cornwall was Daphne du Maurier. Films like Rebecca, My Cousin Rachel, Frenchman's Creek, Jamaica Inn (Jamaica Inn actually exists, up there on Bodmin Moor) and, of course, The Birds, although Hollywood relocated the film version to California.

It's nice to say hello to you. I see you support HSV. Didn't Kevin Keegan once play for your team..?
