It's that time already, FA Cup draw.

The draw is now out for the first two qualifying rounds, that is to say the Extra Preliminary and Preliminary rounds.

Here's a quick reminder of which non-league teams come in where:
Extra-Preliminary - step 5 and 6 clubs that have successfully entered the competition (n.b. not all enter, not all entries are accepted for various reasons).
Preliminary - Step 4 (136 clubs)
1st qualifying - Step 3 (72)
2nd qualifying - Step 2 (conference north and south)
4th qualifying - Step 1 (conference)

Full draw is now available for the extra-preliminary and preliminary rounds - http://www.thefa.com/news/competiti...th-cup-entries-exemptions-early-rounds-080716

For AFCR&D we come in a the Preliminary round where we will host either Leighton Town or Northampton Sileby Rangers. Immediate thought is that it is an OK but uninspiring draw - home is always good. Teams in divisions below is generally a good thing, on reflection probably as good as we could hope for.

You beat me to it!

Hereford v Haugmond or Alverchurch catches the eye!

My local side Heanor Town have been drawn away at Hinckley FC of one level below. Potential to be banana skin but should they progress they could meet rivals Long Eaton in the next round, a team they have met several times in recent years!

Posted this and saw yours at about the same time, wouldn't have grumbled too much if you deleted mine instead!

Hereford v Alverchurch would be interesting, not heard much of what Hereford have done over the summer in terms of personnel changes to prepare for the step up, but I wonder if that one will be a mauling rather than a game close to being even. Not sure if Alverchurch are going for it again this season or will have lost a lot of their players, as frequently happens at step 5 when a team doesn't make promotion.

Geographic limitations always makes the FA Cup draw a bit less interesting than it could be, but it's important for the clubs to make sure teams actually make a profit from the games, rather than both teams making a loss due to the shared travel costs, with the winners hoping that the prize money is bigger than the outlay.

Agree with the geographical limitations being a bit annoying but for so many clubs, like you say, can't afford trips too far away!

We have kept everyone we have wanted to keep and added a handful, Chris Barker has joined as player coach and we have also signed Jamie Edge who I believe was captaining WSM in centre mid last season. He was with us in our last season in the conference and should be a hell of a signing at this level.

So just 76 days after Man Utd beat Crystal Palace at Wembley its Extra Preliminary Round weekend. Even earlier than usual with the majority of clubs having not even started their league campaigns yet!

My local side Heanor play tonight away at Hinckley AFC.

Most local sides through. Ilford walloped Burnham 9-0, Barkingside also advanced with a late winner yesterday. Redbridge are on their arse, however, 2nd round a few years ago and Conference South about 10 years ago (albeit as Ford United), beaten 5-1 on Saturday.

FC Romania who did so well last season are also out.

My local step 5 side Congleton comfortably beat last season's 'worst team in England' New Mills 3-0. Some things don't change I suppose.

Heanor drew 1-1 at Hinckley. Replay Wednesday. Will meet local rivals Long Eaton if they progress for something like the 3rd time in the past 5 FA Cup Campaigns!

Heanor made light work of Hinckley tonight running out 5-1 winners. Fellow Midland League side Long Eaton up next at home. Very winnable.

Had no idea that was out already!

If we beat Sileby then it's at home to either Avely or AFC Hornchurch - Isthmian clubs at step 4. Interesting potential tie against clubs we haven't faced.
Hornchurch have a fan on here too! One of the favourites for the Ryman North I think.

The draw was supposed to be made until 22nd August but the FA have done it early so the clubs can plan for Non League Day which this round falls on.

TBH I think it's stupid to plan "non-league day" to be on the same day as the FA Cup because loads of clubs won't have a game as a result of going out or being due to play a team that are still in. We've definitely been left without a fixture on non-league day in the past as a result of organising it on a cup fixture date.

K's away to either VCD Athletic or Croydon.

Would much rather Croydon due to proximity & them being a step 5 club while VCD are step 4. We will know for sure after the games on Saturday

My local side Heanor are in action tonight at home to local rivals Long Eaton. Looking at the table Long Eaton have started very well and are top of the table may not be a total stroll.

Heanor advanced 3-2 after a 97th minute winner. Long Eaton sounded better than last year and a brace from former York,FC Halifax and Alfreton defender Chris Smith had brought Heanor level.

Intriguing tie in the next round away at Matlock a side who ply their trade two steps above Heanor. Also Glenn Kirkwood and Craig Hopkins who are in charge at Matlock cut their managerial teeth at Heanor winning the EMCL title in 2009. Should be a tasty one.

Expect them to lose but its nice to see them win a few rounds for a change.

Diamonds beat Sileby 4-3 in a game that was a lot closer than it should have been! We went behind thanks to a long throw (normally our trick), before a penalty to draw us level. We then went 4-1 up and really should have seen out the game from there, but our defensive frailties appeared to show and Sileby pulled two back to make it 4-3. They had chances to level it beyond that too, but Diamonds hung on.

You take any win in the cup, but this season is starting to get a bit concerning. Hopefully now we've got a few more competative goals and a win that will increase confidence somewhat, but we really need to address the leaky defense.

Tadcaster Albion vs Scarborough Athletic today. Might go and have a look.

Was a good game this. Tad started poorly and looked likely to take a battering, with the score 0-2 at half time as Scarborough waltzed through the Tad defence more or less at will. It all changed at half time though, with Tad flying out of the blocks and scoring with a perfectly executed lob early on. Eventually Tad won 3-2 and should have made it 4 with Tom Corner failing to sort his feet out when a goal looked inevitable.

Marred somewhat by Scarborough's left back suffering what looked like a bad ankle injury, was still being treated on the touchline at the final whistle.

A much better use of my time than watching York take the inevitable galling defeat at the New Lawn.

Know its abit late as the draw was made last week but..

We've been drawn away against Sun Postal Sports.

They beat Northwood, who I would've preferred to be drawn against as it's a bit easier to get to, 2-0 to advance to this stage.

Hopefully we can get a decent cup run behind us this year starting at Sun Postal Sports.

Its FA Cup First Qualifying Round Weekend.

Anyone planning on attending any matches?

Matlock v Heanor should be interesting. Step 3 v Step 5. But its Step 5 side Heanor who have won 6 of the previous 8 FA Cup meetings.

May head over to the Racecourse ground tomorrow to watch Ascot United v Tonbridge Angels in the FA Cup. Don't think the Yellamen have much chance though. Tonbridge are second in the league.

K's are at VCD Athletic tomorrow. Working so can't go to the match :ffs:

K's were at VCD Athletic today. Working so didn't go to the match

Shipping 4 goals is never ideal... least of all to a team one level below you in the pyramid.

Diamonds won 2-0 against AFC Hornchurch, from the same level and one of the better sides in their league (at least last season). A very good result and through to the next round. Puts some money in the pot and gives us the chance of going further! Couple of players went off injured, so we'll have to see how bad they are.

Matlock 4-2 Heanor Town

Credible effort by all accounts but unsurprisingly its Matlock who advance. Comfortable 6-0 win away at Ashby Invanhoe for Ilkeston.
