Big local derby in the First Round as my local side Heanor face Ilkeston. Heanor seem to have improved since their manager left but I suspect Ilkeston will have too much.

I noticed Dunston UTS are still flying the North-East flag in the FA Vase as well as the FA Cup, they are away at Billingham Town - Tyne and Wear/Tees derby.

Local side Ilkeston suffered a surprise exit yesterday in a keenly contested local derby with Ileston

Edit - Even more surprisingly Martin McIntosh has now been sacked. A return for Steve Chettle I wonder?

Histon celebrated the 30/11 10th anniversary of knocking Leeds out of the cup (FA) by progressing comfortably to the next round with a 5-1 win over Leverstock Green. The team that day was:

Pretty sure Chesterfield are going to win this next year.

Full draw for the FA Vase 4th Round (last 32):

Northern Section
Godmanchester Rovers vs Sporting Khalsa
Irlam or Winterton Rangers vs Cadbury Athletic
Hebburn Town vs Shepshed Dynamo
Newcastle Benfield vs Northwich Victoria
Sunderland Ryhope Community Association vs West Auckland Town
Coventry United vs Leicester Nirvana
Deeping Rangers vs Eastwood Community
Histon vs Lye Town

Southern Section
Willand Rovers vs Hamble Club or Hamworthy United
Canterbury City vs Hullbridge Sports or Newport Pagnell Town
AFC Uckfield Town or Sutton Comon Rovers vs Windsor
Saltash United or Cribbs vs Sholing
Bearsted vs Abbey Rangers
Redbridge or Chertsey Town vs Cadbury Heath or AFC St. Austell
Tring Athletic or Biggleswade vs Swaffham Town or Stowmarket Town
Cray Valley Paper Mills vs Baffins Milton Rovers

Some very interesting ties in there, with some rather unusual teams looking likely to find themselves in the last 16. At least one Northern League team guaranteed a space in the last 16, with two others potentially able to join them. There's going to be some pretty nasty travelling for Cadbury Heath or AFC St. Austell, regardless of who wins between Redbridge and Chertsey Town. A long journey too for Shepshed Dynamo up to Hebburn Town.

If Winterton Rangers beat Irlam this weekend, then that will mean one 10th tier team (either them or Cadbury Athletic) are guaranteed a place in the last 16.

Eastwood away at Deeping Rangers. Another tough draw but they have nothing to fear after their win at Ilkeston

Draw for the last 16:

Irlam vs Chertsey Town
Cray Valley Paper Mills vs Abbey Rangers
Histon vs Northwich Victoria
Sholing vs Godmanchester Rovers
Hebburn Town vs West Auckland Town
Biggleswade vs Windsor
Willand Rovers vs Deeping Rangers
Canterbury City vs Coventry United

The two Northern League sides drawn together here... that really opens things up for everyone else in the competition. Histon vs Northwich is also quite an interesting one considering their time at higher levels.

Shame to see Eastwood bow out at Deeping Rangers in the last round. Long trek though for Deeping there to Willand

Surprising to see Canterbury still in there.
A city with no interest in football
anyone remember their old ground at Kingsmead speedway/greyhound track - the worst ground ever. imo

And the Quarter Final draw (ties to be played 23rd/24th of February):

West Auckland Town vs Chertsey Town
Canterbury City vs Biggleswade
Willand Rovers vs Cray Valley Paper Mills
Northwich Victoria vs Sholing

The last of those is surely the pick of the round, partially because of Northwich's prestigious history but also because of the fantastic season Sholing are having (they're still unbeaten in their league and are surely the favourites for this now).

West Auckland Town are now the last Northern League side in the competition, but because of that there is the possibility of a repeat of the 2013/14 final (where they lost 1-0 to Sholing). Still, they face stiff competition in promotion-chasing Chertsey Town.

The other two ties aren't quite as interesting, but these are obviously good sides to have made it this far (I know that CVPM have Kevin Lisbie playing for them, while Biggleswade are dominating their Step 5 league).

It would be nice to see Canterbury City get to the final or even win it, as that could possibly force the local council to reconsider their decision to refuse the club planning permission for a new ground back in the city after almost 20 years of exile.

A huge turn out at Hebburn Town on Saturday, a record breaking attendance of 1,310.
An own goal by Hebburn defender Jack Donaghy and a strike by centre forward Amar Purewal gave West Auckland their third quarter final in seven seasons, and they will now be at home to Chertsey from the Combined Counties League on 23rd February.

West Auckland must have a really good chance of progressing with the likes of Amar Purewal and David Dowson up front. They were decent player's for us coming through the league's.
Also they had the brilliant Tom Portas and another ex-Quaker in Chris Hunter in Saturday's team.

I'm rooting for Cray Valley with a couple of ex-Hamlet players on board, notably Gavin Tomlin who scored our goal in the Isthmian promotion final last season, and Kevin James as player-coach. Plus ex-Charlton Premier League forward Kevin Lisbie.

Imagine if CVPM and Orient both make their respective finals, then the former will have an unexpected 10,000 or so crowd boost as the O’s will turn out in force for Super Kev. We absolutely adore him.

I'm hoping the CV home leg will be on the Sunday as Greenwich Borough are at home on the Saturday. Wouldn't mind seeing that.

With favourites Sholing going out, and the last Northern League team following suit, it's now really hard to predict who's going to win the Vase. Frankly, I wouldn't mind who wins personally, as I'd be happy to see three of the clubs win for different reasons (sorry Cray Valley, don't know enough about you to judge other than the weird name):

Canterbury winning the Vase would be nice as it would surely act as some sort of leverage in their fight to get a ground back in the city
Northwich winning would be a good moment for one of the famous non-league names after their plight of the last few years
And Chertsey are reasonably local to me here at University, so seeing a localish team lift the Vase would be good

At the very least, I think I'll probably take in Chertsey's home leg of the semi-final

And attendances in double figures when they were there. Now in bed with Quinn Estates to build on green belt land.

If I read it right, the ground will out past Bridge on the way to Dover?
They might not get double figure crowds there. How is that going to succeed?

A community the size of Canterbury ought to have a facility good enough to host a semi-professional football club and the local authority has a responsibility to help make it happen.

CVPM are in the same division - the SECLPD - as Canterbury, albeit a fair few places higher up. They’re based in Eltham and have a scattering of ex-League players including the aforementioned Super Kev and Gavin Tomlin. They’re really a displaced Orpington/Sidcup side, though, much like Cray Wanderers.

I’d expect CVPM and Chertsey to progress. Vics are very competitive in a tough division, but Chertsey have some excellent forward players for Step 9.

Cray Valley take a slender 1-0 lead to Faversham. Vics-Chertsey was a victim of the weather.
