Way too soon. Don't understand why they would want him at this stage.

Because they need someone the fans will stick with if it all goes to shit, with no way of salvaging it with transfers. Being a Chelsea legend, they will be hoping this will be the case, even though this very rarely happens. Lose 5 games in a row and fans will want you out, legend or not.

This smacks of desperation all around, but it could be used to give the club leeway if they perform poorly due to their impending transfer embargo (as the fans probably won't turn on Lampard very quickly due to his history).

Did ok at Derby, but seeing as they're in and around the play-offs every year anyway was it anything special? Arguably their best players were the loanees - Wilson, Mount & Tomori - who probably signed because of him. That policy clearly wouldn't work at Chelsea if they could sign players, so a rookie manager + potentially (in Chelsea terms) a youthful team? Could go either way. Gut feeling is that it's a couple of years too soon.

Based on sentiment, not going to work out is it. Chelsea are going to struggle to make the top 4 this season, squad is weakened with Hazard leaving and of course no way of strengthening while summer 2020, wether he's a club legend or not they'll be calling for his head in October if they are sat around 6th.

How long will the board give him and what are their expectations.

After all despite Sarri being very unpopular Chelsea still came 3rd and won a trophy..

Would've agreed with all this a few months ago but kinda feel like it may be a case of the stars aligning to an extent. Hasn't been less expectation at Chelsea in decades, fans crying out for someone to rally behind, big drive to finally let some youth through the door - think he could be the right man at the right time. Reckon he might surprise a few people and actually do pretty well

The fans will always expect. He should be given the time and the ‘rally behind’ kind of support, but if the team isn’t clicking and he’s losing games consistently, the mood will change and they’ll want you out sadly. Personally thought Sarri would do much better this coming season, when you look at the way he started, but look how quickly the fans turned when they started losing games. Higuain was a big mistake though, said it at the time, never rated the guy and they would’ve been better off bringing in the exuberance of Callum Wilson.

Oh it wouldn't last forever sure but he'd get a hell of a lot more slack than Sarri ever did. Plus he'd have an awful lot more power and respect in the dressing room just because of who he is and his status with the club, kinda like Zidane at Madrid. Which is also something Chelsea really need.

Imagine if someone tried to pull a Kepa at Stamford Bridge with Super Frank in charge - they wouldn't make it out alive
