In all honesty nobody knows what each of our players are on, it's all guesswork. People on our forum are adamant that Jota is on under 20k per week but what proof is there? FFP (or Fosun Funding Promotion) is over 3 years anyway, as I said if we sell a big name or two we will be more than fine.

I am utterly outraged that Sunderland appear to be buying their way into League 1.
If you replace the names of their starting eleven last week with their values, you will see that they have created an unfair playing field.

(£100k?)
(£5m?) (£5m) Loan
£2m Loan £6m (£3.7m?)
(£3.2m) (£3.2m?)
Loan

How are Burton, Birmingham City and Reading expected to compete with this kind of nonsense? It simply doesn't add up. Cattermole, McGeady, Oviedo, O'Shea all on big salaries. Bastards. Distorting the game which has never, ever been based on buying expensive players and paying them shedloads of cash. Why only last season, Newcastle players played for free and Rafa donated his paltry salary to punters who needed a payday loan.

Wolves and Leeds teams last night.....
Free
Free (£2m) Loan
£75k (£3m) Loan £1m
£7m Loan Loan

versus

Free
Unknown £3.5m (£500k) Free
Free £4.5m
(£1.3m) (£3m) (£1.5m)
Loan
Our squad last night included two frees from Norwich, several academy players, a loaner at Hull last season where Razzawhatever could have had him for nothing, another loaner from Al Hilal (those big fucking giants of Portuguese football), and a lad plucked from Turkey for a million quid after a lifetime playing in rural Poland.
The star men....(of whom one wasn't even playing!)...have really only shined since they came to Wolves. Neither Cavaleiro nor Jota had set anywhere on fire before they rocked up at Molineux. Leaving us with Neves, a man clearly persuaded to drop a level to put himself in the shop window.
Remember all these players signed for Wolves and agreed salaries before they hit the limelight (again with a bit of an exception for Neves).

Personally, I'm not overly keen on the Mendes connection (I've said so here before) but this whining shite from Leeds and Villa is ridiculous. Spending money has NEVER been a guarantee of success. Look at us a few seasons ago spending big to plummet two divisions. Look at Sunderland now. Villa, Middlesbrough both spent big. So all this nonsense about "ooh it doesn't add up". :ohn: This forum (and especially this bit of it) has long shown itself to be utterly clueless about football finances. :bg:

The total irony of a Leeds owner whining about other owners being fit and proper, eh? After the succession of shambolic owners, managers and players to drift aimlessly through Elland Road over the last decade? Fucking priceless.

What I'm curious about is where were all these 'letters of complaints' when Mendes influenced the signings of Joao Texiera, Silvio, and ugh.. Ola John last season? It only seems to be of concern now that a few the latest Mendes recruits turned out to be half decent. If people are complaining then that is one thing, I'm just curious to see why these owners and CEO's of other clubs are only deciding to complain now? All seems like sour grapes to me.

Also it's worth noting that Leeds have their own agent influencing signings, his name Victor Orta. The hypocrisy in all of this is laughable. Oh.. but this Victor Orta has signed a load of shite for Leeds so it doesn't count...

It's exactly that. I couldn't be arsed to go through the Villa team to look at values, but it's a nonsense. I admit I think the Neves deal is curious (said so before) but at an individual level. I don't believe there's anything dodgy at all. Furthermore, Wolves has been running at a profit for many seasons and FFP is measured over three seasons.

Jeff Shi says he wants to turn Molineux's capacity into 50,000, and the only thing preventing it being larger than 50k is the university behind the stadium. :dk:

"Let's try to get to 50,000 as soon as possible," Shi said.

Eventually, if we can achieve that, we'll do it of course.

Laurie (Dalrymple, Wolves' managing director) told me that the maximum capacity may be 50,000. I even asked him can we have a bigger one like Real Madrid's! But it's hard because the position of the stadium, the university is behind us.

But let's make some progress on the pitch first then when we feel we have a stable squad to compete in the Premier League we can immediately do something

Expansion will be step by step. We have to use the summer time to do it but we have the plan. It should be balanced towards the achievement on the pitch."

There have been suggestions the club has been looking elsewhere for a new stadium site but Shi confirmed: "The plan is to stay at Molineux. Although maybe one day in the future we'll be too big!"

Wolves will need to be a regular top 6 club at least to pull 50k in. Even then I don't think you would. Not many clubs have a stable fanbase that will turn out regardless of how well they are doing.

In our prime (long before I was born) we would being pulling 50k every home game. Would we be able to do it now if we became a top 6 side? Probably not.

Then again as a club (excluding recent history obviously) I don't think we're any smaller than Man City and they have a decent sized stadium. Although I doubt any Wolves fan expect Fosun to take us to Man City's level.

City are far bigger than you, even before the money.

Before their millions came our trophy cabinets were fairly similar. As of before 2008:

Man City:
Cups
European
Wolves:

Football League First Division
UEFA Cup

  • Runners-up (1): 1972
FA Cup

Football League Cup

FA Charity Shield

I'd say City have always had the bigger fanbase though (post-war anyway), they were getting 30k crowds in League One and haven't averaged less than 19k since the late 60's and that was in the 80's when crowds were shit everywhere.

Fair enough, can agree their fanbase is bigger than ours when we were both shit. Suppose it's down to what people class as being big though (trophies/history/fanbase, etc). They're in a different league to us all now.

Unfortunately not mate, best average home attendance was 45.466 in 1950

Derby bottling their game today....

It's been 100% worth it too, my highlights of the day so far;

- Colin losing his head on SSN
- Greg Halford giving it the biggun' tweeting SSN pictures of the ground and how little snow there is yet getting pushed out of snow on his way home.
- Cardiff supporters club losing their shit yet their coaches stuck on the A40 due to the weather.
- Accusations of Mel Morris paying of Derbyshire constabulary and the Football League.

Please, keep it up Cardiff fans. :bg:

That entertainment sounds better than watching the game itself tbh

Not sure why Greg Halford was so arsed about it, he was only going to sit on a freezing cold bench for 90 minutes anyway. At least now he's on a nice warm coach back to sunmy Cardiff.

The Nottingham Forest owner, Evangelos Marinakis, has been charged with drug trafficking in a heroin smuggling case that has shocked Greece.

Late on Friday the Greek public prosecutor, Eirini Tziva, accused the shipowner businessman of what were described as “very serious charges” following a three-year investigation into the Noor 1, a tanker intercepted in the port of Piraeus carrying 2.1 tonnes of heroin in 2014.

Marinakis, 50, was also charged with financing an illegal operation. Three of his close associates were named with him on the charge sheet.

The judicial inquiry had followed the money, focusing on bank transfers that had raised suspicion. Court sources were quoted as saying that several money transfers had been linked to the impounded vessel and probably used to finance it.

Marinakis, who owns the Greek champions Olympiakos, was not available for comment. The football club’s website did not mention the charges, widely derided as a set-up by fans.

This is not the businessman’s first brush with the law. In 2015 he was acquitted of complicity in a match-fixing network whose web extended across seven countries. In that case charges were brought after Uefa detected a pattern of irregular betting in the countries. The magnate, who bought Nottingham Forest 10 months ago in a £50m takeover, attributed those charges to “jealous” critics bent on blighting his Greek team’s winning streak. “Of course I cannot stop our opponents talking or bad-mouthing,” he said.

Just for some clarification, the EFL has yet again cleared us of any wrong doing regarding Mendes' affiliation with the club.

Discussions between the EFL and management of Wolverhampton Wanderers have now concluded in regard to the matter of the relationship between the club, majority shareholder Fosun and intermediary Jorge Mendes.

Following the commitment made in March, as a result of some concerns raised by a number of Championship clubs, the EFL has met with Wolverhampton Wanderers to ensure compliance with the requirements of its regulations.

At that meeting, a request for information was made by the EFL and following a comprehensive review of the detail subsequently provided by the club, it has been determined that Mr Mendes holds no role at the club and, as such should not be categorised as a ‘Relevant Person’ as defined by League regulations. On this basis there is no requirement for him to submit to the Owners’ and Directors’ Test.

As part of the discussions the club has been reminded of its continuing obligation to keep under review the status of both existing Relevant Persons, but also any other individuals who may at some point acquire the status of Relevant Person, and advise the League (and, given the recent promotion, the Premier League) accordingly.

The EFL would like to place on record its appreciation to the management of Wolverhampton Wanderers for their help and assistance in resolving this matter within a sensible and appropriate timeframe.

The EFL will be making no further comment.

Not sure if this has been posted anywhere.

https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/207040

I would have thought 100k would have been hit pretty quickly but seems to be taking its time.
In ten years time we will still be having the same discussion. Can't see it happening anytime soon, and if I'm being honest, I don't think there is enough genuine support for it. The amount of red tape is unbelievable, and politicians won't want to push for it.
