They had some good fortune as admitted by Kovac but well done to Frankfurt on their Cup success and European football.

Yes. And VfB Stuttgart and even RB Leipzig are the "victims". With a Bayern win Stuttgart would be in the EL Qualifiers and RB Leipzig (as 6th) would be directly qualified for the Europa League Group stages. Now Stuttgart is out and RB Leipzig has to play in the 2nd round of the EL Qualifiers, beginning July 26th,11 Days after the end of the World Cup.

Very strange result. Bayern playing with their foot off the pedal in order to let their future manager win?

Nah, Bayern were all over them the majority of the game and had plenty of good chances. Dodgy officiating played a large part in the final result. Bayern should have had a pen in the closing stages, ref didn't call it, Frankfurt countered up the other end from the corner and scored their 3rd.

That's right. 2 goalposts hits, several big chances by Kimmich, Müller ....
Ah, yes and Lewandowski annoys me more and more. OK, he made a lucky goal (deflected of a Frankfurt Defender) and had a free kick at the goal post. But then every one of his free kicks were shit. James Rodriguez is better at this but it was always Lewa who took the shot. What's this shit?

Bayern very unlucky in the VAR scene , everyone saw that this was a clear penalty, everyone minus one, the referee. Even after watching the scene from the VAR he meant it wasn't a foul (Kevin Prince Boateng and Niko Kovac both admitted later in the interviews in German TV that it was a clear foul). The first VAR scenewith Boateng's hand was borderline but I think the referee was right here to not call this deliberate)

The 3-1 from Gacinovic with Ulreich out of his goal and in Frankfurt's penalty. I mean what is this shit always with the goalkeepers leaving their goal in the final seconds and running in the opponents penalty are. It's not icehockey where a power play with one man more is vital. Often the goalies are only obstacles for the strikers and nothing more. At last this time this shit results in a goal for the opponents.

A sad departure now for Jupp Heynckes. First the unlucky semi-final against Madrid where they should've advanced to the final and now this.

Ooooh, wonder if we'll get Keita even cheaper due to this? Thanks Frankfurt if so!

They should cash in on Lewa if possible imo. Aside from his constant disrespectful flirting with Real Madrid, he thinks he's bigger than the club nowadays. That petty ego trip with the Torjagerkanone award (great name for the top scorer award BTW) pretty much sums up his selfish mentality. I mean, who calls their own teammates out in public like that? Excellent player, but fuck that guy.

Come on now mate, he did win the league! Some perspective here Dirk! :D

Aye but he won the treble last time so I think it's safe to say this campaign was comparatively an utter failure on his part. What a loser.

Didn't know that. Piece of piss anyway.

hey, mm, looks good now for "Sechzger". They won their first promotion playoff leg against Saarbrücken with 3-2 (away).

Should be enough for promotion to 3.Liga. Is this "jordanian guy" still involved? Or did they get rid of him after he let them "double relegated" from 2nd to 4th tier last season?

btw: Paderborn, who did the "rare thing" of being relegated from 1.Bundesliga to 4th tier in 3 successive seasons and was only saved from falling to 4th tier because of the mentioned "double relegation" of 1860 Munich is promoted to 2nd Bundesliga. What rollercoaster years for the fans

Don't know if this is the appropriate thread but I don't see a dedicated new kit thread. Anyway, here's the 2018/19 Bundesliga 2 tiTle winners' new shirt. A beauty I reckon.

Haha, no. I meant 'title', but I must have hit the Caps Lock key by mistake.

Brown is not one of my fav colours, and it's also not really a football kit colour, but St Pauli are a bit different to everybody else so I think it suits them. However, I was joking about it being a beauty. They've had far better designs in the past (and also quite a few much worse tbh!)

Leverkusen's away kit is hella smart.

Then Puma are being weird again, releasing a lovely simple design like this...

While at the same time releasing this fugly mess...

I see Shalke have been given the Everton kit of a few years ago from Umbro too.

Dirk - Do you know why Daniel Stendel was sacked at Hannover. Seems to have had a good record according to the reliable source of Wikipedia?

Stendel did a good job. In Hannover's relegation season 2015/2016 he took over from Thomas Schaaf and could stabilize the team with some really good matches but it was too late. But nonetheless Hannover did improve very well (similar situation like HSV this season when Christian Titz took over and revitalized the team)

In their season in the 2.Bundesliga Hannover was 2nd after the 1st half of the season but then they had a bad run and went down to 4th which wouldn't even guarantee a relegation playoff against #16 of the Bundesliga. And Hannover's management feared that they would bottle it so they hired Andre Breitenreiter to bring them back on track (which he did, they finished 2nd and were promoted again).

Before taking over the Bundesliga team of Hannover 96 Stendel's experience as coach was only with the youth teams (U17, U19) of the club. Maybe it was too much for him in the end...I don't know tbh.

I see that he has now got a contract at Barnsley.

Thanks for the reply. Sounds like he was harshly dismissed. Not sure he will be able to adapt to the rigours of League One though.

The expectations at Barnsley are surely not as high as those in Hannover where they had to be promoted immediately otherwise they would have to cut off the costs dramatically in a 2nd season in the 2.Bundesliga. Maybe they would have been back on track under Stendel, too, in the end but as I said the management of 96 panicked and they wanted to do "something" (Breitenreiter btw was sacked months before at Schalke )

Will be interesting to see how he "adapts" to english league football.

Today the DFL showed the schedule of BuLi 1 and 2.

The 56th season of the Bundesliga opens on August 24th with Champion Bayern at home against Hoffenheim (3rd). This is now the 17th time that we have such an Opening match for the season with the actual Champion and normally it's a sure win for the Champ (13 Wins - 3 Draws). Another interesting match on the 1st matchday is Leipzig at Dortmund:

Bayern - Hoffenheim (Friday 24th)
Dortmund - Leipzig
Gladbach - Leverkusen
Hertha BSC - Nürnberg
Bremen - Hannover
Freiburg - Frankfurt
Mainz - Stuttgart
Wolfsburg - Schalke
Düsseldorf - Augsburg

And in the 2nd Bundesliga HSV will have a home match against Holstein Kiel, 3rd placed last year (lost their promotion playoff matches against #16 Vfl Wolfsburg from BuLi 1). Our season already starts 3 weeks before the 1.Bundesliga, on Aug 3rd. HSV is already in training camp since June 21.

HSV - Holstein Kiel (Friday, Aug 3rd)
Regensburg - Ingolstadt
Bochum - Köln
Union Berlin - Aue
Darmstadt - Paderborn
Heidenheim - Bielefeld
Dresden - Duisburg
Fürth - Sandhausen
Magdeburg - St. Pauli

btw: Our Derby date with St.Pauli is at September 30th, first at the Volkspark

After the Relegation the HSV clock has a new "job" from now on. It's not counting anymore the consecutive years that the HSV is (was) in the Bundesliga ( "in der Bundesliga seit " (Bundesliga since...54 years...) Now it's counting from the date of formation of the original club: 'Tradition seit...." (Tradition since ....130 years...). The same on the HSV homepage

Hannover 96 will be the "new HSV" for the new Bundesliga season.
After Walace last week they took US Boy Bobby Wood, too ( one year loan with a buy option).
Thank you for taking both, 96 ;)

In Hamburg we call Hannover 96 sometimes (a bit mockingly) "kleiner HSV (little HSV)", originates from the full club name " Hannoverscher Sportverein von 1896".

3 weeks till the season opener against Kiel. How are things shaping up for your boys, Dirk? Hopefully you don't do an 1860 (spend over a decade in the second tier before going down).

Male den Teufel nicht an die Wand! ;) (don't know a suitable english translation for this saying)

btw: the new HSV Shirt for the 2018/19 season: Nice gimmick on the back "HSV" in Morse code. Suitable for a Hanseatic city

3.Liga started yesterday with Eintracht Braunschweig (relegated) vs Karlsruher SC (last year #3) at the Hamburger Straße. Only 1-1 for the Löwen but I hope they'll get soon in the mood after their dramatic last matchday relegation last season.

Actually I am watching 1.FC Kaiserslautern vs 1860 Munich at the Betzenberg (aka Fritz Walter Stadion). Traditional Bundesliga clubs and very sad to see the Roten Teufel (Red Devils) in the 3rd tier for the first time ever. Hopefully they'll be promoted straight away. Brilliant crowd of 40.000 for this match.

Next Friday the 2.Bundesliga starts with HSV vs Holstein Kiel and in 4 weeks the Bundesliga. League Football, at last!

6k visiting supporters fighting the good fight. The Buli Drei is more interesting than the leagues higher up. Some absolutely massive clubs in there.

I wouldn't generally say that 3.Liga is more interesting than 2.Bundesliga or 1.Bundesliga. Normally the 2nd tier is exciting too, you remember last season? When only 9 points was the gap between a relegation place and #4th place, when a team could jump several places up in the last matchday thanks to a win (and other teams down several places with a loss) and even the Champion of the 2nd tier was only crowned at the last matchday.
Even the Bundesliga has normally exciting fights (apart from the Moloch at the top, of course) for CL and EL places and the relegation battles. Only the title is unfortunately a no race for some years now.

But you're right, some massive clubs in 3.Liga (btw: the exact crowd yesterday for Kaiserslautern was 41.324, not bad for a 3rd tier match and you could see the importance of this League when such a match was even televised live in German free TV )
