Not going to this so may as well have a thread. Slightly concerned that in his pre-match interview on iFollow yesterday Jolley earmarked Colchester as a team that likes to get the ball down on the deck. Is that accurate? I was (perhaps incorrectly) of the opinion that Colchester were more in your big/strong/physically imposing kind of mould? Either way, this should be another tough one. A clean sheet and/or a point will do me here, I reckon.

Guaranteed for that knob sack Harry Pell to get a goal tonight, then very originally cup his ear at our fans just for a change.
Wanker.

A bit of both really. At home we usually get the ball down and play some really lovely football, but away we often turn a bit uglier.

Saturday was our first away win north of Colchester in two and a half years so it might be a bit much to ask for another one just a couple of days later!

Drew both matches last season I believe so same again at least would be nice. Really hope Harry Pellend doesn't score.

Would really like us to win this one but a draw wouldn't be terrible. Our defence has improved and we're getting into really good scoring positions but our finishing simply has to improve. I really rated Thomas in his first few games as someone with a good touch and loses his defender well but I've been slightly less impressed recently, his finishing has been absolutely woeful. Hopefully he can grab a couple more goals sharpish. Vernam has at least hit the target some but he also needs a touch more conviction. There are goals in this side and we'll hopefully see them in abundance soon.

Pell scores after getting a raft of abuse again, no doubt.

Do you not think the abuse motivates Pell even more to score against you lot? Not a direct dig at Grimsby fans btw, it's always been a part of football that's annoyed me. We did it with Kevin Ellison and he always upped his game against us (I remember one time he got a pie chucked at him after celebrating the full length of the Co-Op stand). I know it's part of the panto/theatric nature of football but if you ignored him he'd probably end up doing nothing.

Yep I'm with you on that, I hate it whenever we play Akinfenwa because it's a constant torrent of "you fat bastard". Plenty of players feed off that. The Pell thing is a two way feud though, he goes out to intentionally incite Town fans and he gets the reaction he wants every time. I hope he's on the end of a few ball winning but non-malicious John Welsh crunchers tonight.

Yep I don't understand why we keep doing it. He's relished playing against us for years knowing that he's a villain to us and he almost always plays well because of it. I can understand giving him grief for a couple of games after whatever incident happens but this has gone on for years. It's daft. I couldn't even tell you why he's so disliked by us apart from the fact he's a diving twat.

Both teams cancelling each other out so far. No real chances except RHJ letting Colchester in but a decent save from McKeown keeps it level.

We started like a train but Colchester have slowly got into the game and looked good for the middle 20 minutes of the half, we pushed again just before half-time. We just look frightened to shoot, or keep hoping for that ideal bounce that doesn't come.

Let's hope we have a proper second half from our lot.

Wow, some turnaround after the first 10 games and conceding 18 goals!

4 clean sheets in a row, 3 wins and a draw, if we could just start scoring some goals, that 12th place will be easy.

Big thing is he has started the same 11 for the last 4 games, what happens if someone gets injured?

7 losses in a row turns to this. Superb set of results and hopefully we’ll continue to secretly climb that table.

What I’m liking is how resilient we are at the minute, September was implode every game yet in October there’s always someone chucking a body in the way of everything heading towards our goal, hope we can keep it up. :)

Well I guess you could say that for any form side. We’ve got some decent back up, the bench looks strong, Welsh, Cook, Pringle and Hess all on the bench tonight. So I wouldn’t be too worried if there’s an injury.

We've got plenty of options in the middle, to be fair. My worry is if defenders get injured, especially full backs as we're light there and he'll play players out of position again.

Great win tonight though and I'm in danger of being excited about Cambridge away in a week and a half or so.

Great win for us. Colchester looked dangerous but we defended excellently. Our play in possession is sometimes awesome to watch but you can tell we are still very much in transition. In a few months time, if things go smoothly, we should batter some teams. Glad Thomas got another goal after a good move. Still need a lot more ruthlessness up front.

You say that, but those players were the ones playing when we lost however many in a row.

I'm not confident about any of those being back in the team until they prove what the current 11 are doing.

We’ve managed to keep the divisions top scorers (before tonight) out. That’s good. If we can just start creating now, we can start beating teams properly!
