Is it fair to say that the only major positive about being in the Conference is getting promoted from it?

Luton fans hated it down there and they were winning games most weeks.
YES

Only other positive I can think of is being able to stand at most away games, can’t think of anything else positive about non league.

I sometimes wonder into the future and think about if we'll ever see that day.

If we ever do, it may well be the happiest day of my life.

I think once you finally manage it nothing will ever top it, in my lifetime I’ve seen us promoted into League one once and into the Championship twice, yet getting promoted from non league was easily the best feeling football wise that I’ve ever had. Even the drive home felt incredible, buzzing my tits off all the way and then stopped off at Peterborough services and it had been completely taken over by Town fans.

Well you can do that at every away game in the Premier League (at least the ones I've been to, I've still yet to go to a few grounds), so not much of an endorsement.

Or do you mean the terraces, but don't all League 2 clubs still have them as well?

Ditto.

Winning at Wembley last year was better than promotion to the Championship, the League Cup Final and beating Everton 3-0 at Goodison Park. Most Tranmere supporters would describe it as the best day of their supporting lifetime.

Yeah I mean on the big open terraces.
I guess another good thing about non league was that our big away followings down there helped out quite a few smaller teams financially that always had poor home support, teams such as Southport, Gateshead, and Lincoln City.

This is like comparable to the day I left school.
I have had some truly amazing, happy days since then. Wedding day, passing my driving test, graduating from uni, promotion at work, moving into my house.
Nothing compares to the sheer buzz I felt on the day I left secondary school, a truly horrible experience which is a none football equivalent to conference football it seems.

I am certainly not rooting for this to happen but this could be a potential reprieve for whoever ends up second bottom. I expect it will be sorted out and it would be a shit way to survive if it didn't but got to look after number 1 I guess.

Oddly our Norman could be the one to benefit and save them if they went to Nuneaton...

Seems Coventry’s troubles might end up keeping one of you up anyway if they don’t sort there ground situation out.

I agree there is no way Coventry City will be left without a home. Theres more chance of someone from our division going down the pan than that.
No, we cant clutch at those type of straws and I certainly wouldn't want us staying up due to such a catastrophe, even if it would mean a great deal.

Our chairman is a Coventry fan and now owns Nuneatons ground...
Suggestion he could be looking to get Cov in there paying rent?

Better geographically than Northampton I guess but been at Nuneaton and they'd certainly struggle with the amount of fans attending.
But as they say, better than nothing

Always tires me when I see the scaremongering that a club without a home or a club in admin will go to the wall these days.

It NEVER happens anymore. And the only reason it happened in the 90s was because the Football League announced a plan to expand from 92 to 94 clubs only for the PL to come into fruition and say on its launch day in 1992 that after 3 years it was cutting the number of clubs in its league from 22 to 20. Hence why it was ever so convenient to get rid of Aldershot and Maidstone for financial irregularities in a 93 team Football League arrangement when they needed to go back to 92. Could you have imagined three clubs being relegated to the Conference in 1994-95 for example? Nope because the ramifications could've been severe with only one promotion place the following year. Be much easier to punish those who mismanaged their finances.

It's a logistical nightmare. You'd get clubs bickering over who should get the spot in the league that the affected club departed from. Either the highest placed relegated club or the highest non-promoted club/play off final loser will present their case to stay up/go up and there's no fair way you can sort it out bar a two legged playoff, which the league would never do, so it'd end up in a farcical situation.

Then you have to ask would the Conference accept them? Because the Conference have every right to tell them no. And rightly so too. Then this would then look even worse on the Football League's name if a member club was forced to start at the bottom of the ladder. Potential sponsorships and TV rights deals could genuinely be affected if a member of the league was to genuinely go to the wall. All this bullshit about clubs being minutes from extinction in the courts is one of those repetitive football cliches because everyone always says that's the case when it so clearly isn't, the club in question would just get another bullshit extension to sort out their affairs in the courts.

Worst case scenario is Coventry do what they did in 2013-14 and go and groundshare at another club. The league would rather appease fans, local businesses, players and staff with a compromise than ever send a club to the wall. It'll never happen again. If clubs survived shite like ITV Digital, then any league club will survive being homeless or being in administration unless they dropped out of the league.

We've won the conference 3 times now, rather not have to do it again.

You make some good points but, in practice, it doesn't work like that. Instead, the higher league organisation bullies the lower one and wins. Chester and Hereford have gone to the wall in recent years. In Chester's case, then in L2, the Football League knew what was going on with the odious Vaughan, the Conference made their protestations but were told in no uncertain terms they had to accept them. What the Conference chose to do with them after that was their problem, the FL didn't care. If the Conference refused, the promotion place/s into L2 would be withdrawn. QED.

IF (and it's a big IF given the obnoxious SISU's latest act of brinkmanship) Coventry are expelled from the FL, it means there's effectively one less relegation place from L1 downwards.

If Smurf is a Coventry fan, then why doesn't he just buy the club from SISU and sell Port Vale instead?

From just looking at pictures of Smurf you can tell he's one of them arrogant, ignorant pompous c*** that would smirk as the lift door closes before you can make it, and would then wait for you at the bottom to argue with you before storming off as an emotional wreck because you owned him, before again clashing in the car park as you refuse to let him out in front of you, so he tails you for 50 miles up the motorway shouting and gesturing, in the wrong direction from his house and ends up having to call out the AA because the dumb fuck ran out of petrol.

Cost to much I imagine but... if he is was to rent out Nuneatons ground it would be a good investment.

Well, that was quite something. Speaking from personal experience are we?
