I did wonder. Miller, if on a decent enough wage could be the kinda rookie player to take a chance on if you're short on goals (obviously I appreciate that was last season under a different manager) - obviously his criminal record isn't fantastic

I wouldn't advise anyone went anywhere near Butcher, something wrong in his head
I can't see Miller signing on for a decent enough wage for him to be an attractive prospect. If we were back in the Conference, then I'd be delighted if we paid a bit over the odds for him but not in a division he isn't proven in.

Hope we don’t sign O’Connor tbh. We’ve had our fingers burnt recently with Sean McAllister and for such a high wage, I’m not sure it’s worth it? All ifs and buts at the minute.

Whoever gets O'Connor will get a decent player, obviously with a concern over his fitness and injury record though. Would still like to see him at SB but if he can get more at Grimsby or elsewhere, good luck to him.

Oh but remember we are never ever ever doing this again after Charles Ademeno. Okay no but seriously, this will be the last time guys okay?

Woods and Fenty made some proper awful transfers that season. Was Ademeno a worse signing than Makofo?

Did Fenty and Woods really sign Serge Makofo by accident, in a case of mistaken identity, or was that a myth?

Hahaha that's a thinker. I think I would have to say no, purely because Makofo was on a three year deal signed on a match day and wasn't actually the player we wanted to sign. Without checking I would hazard a guess that we got more use of out Makofo, though? Both were shockingly poorly researched and administered signings.

I was sure it was true, but could be mistaken. Have mentioned before but the Makofo Wiki page was hilarious for a while, it regaled a story of Neil Woods losing a game of strip poker or something and being forced to sign Makofo as a consequence.

I have it in my head that we were supposed to sign Jean-Paul Marna but that might be bollocks. Fenty and Woods were incompetent but even that would surprise me.

Any Stevenage fans care to give us their opinions on Dale Gorman? We've signed him on a 2 year deal.

This means we won't be signing Callum Butcher as we now have 4 central midfielders.

Nobody really knows, the rumour was that it was Moses Ashikodi we wanted to sign, who at the time would’ve been considered a good signing.

As it turns out they both turned out to be shite anyway, but a 3 year deal for Serge Makofo is quite something.

Quite simply the best midfielder at Vale in the last decade. Rarely wastes a pass and makes the game look easy.
Looks though like age catching up with him with injuries so maybe not quite the player he was but even so he'll be a good acquisition for somebody.

It’s refreshing for fans of his his current and past clubs talking so positively about a player who left or in Notts’ case about to leave. A rarity.

Am surprised a little more Transfer activity hasn’t occurred since we spunked our load so to speak early doors on a couple of biggish names #premature

Transfers always go quiet during the world cup. The big transfers always end up filtering down like a cascade. Mason Bennet being a very good example as Derby were only willing to let him go if they got Palmer. Palmer could only go if they secured Giroud.... etc etc

Hearing that we’ve signed Elliott Whitehouse on a 2 year deal.

Whitehouse looks like a decent signing, Lincoln have offered him a year but we’ve offered him two. Chucking around these two year contracts #goingforit

Elliot Whitehouse great signing for a club like us going for a safe midtable finish. In before Chris, Adam, Impish, g_b, anyone else who is obsessed.

Seems Lincoln thought he’d be a good signing for a side destined to win the league seems as they tried to keep him.

Not according to them on here, but they might have been pre-emptively critical on purpose.

Not sure what this means for the O'Connor/Summerfield offers. Would we have both those and Rose all in the squad? Hypothetically, of course. I feel like Lincoln will get MoC. We'll almost certainly play 3 in the middle at times next season, but that is 4 players without a great deal of versatility there.

We offered him a one year deal, so not sure about trying that hard to keep him. If he has got two years with you then good luck to him. I posted this elsewhere about him.

Giving an honest opinion, he is liked at Lincoln for his endeavour and ability to get into goal scoring positions. Quite strong and will always give 100%. Didn't get much game time early on last season but the longer it went on and with a few injuries he got more established. First touch lets him down and certainly not that gifted as a player but a decent signing IMO. No doubt be better for him financially two years over one year here.

I'd have kept him on the terms we offered i.e. as a squad player on a one-year deal, but he was/is never going to get in ahead of Bostwick, Frecklington and, last season, Woodyard. If O'Connor signs, he'll not get in ahead of him either. We also have Pett. Useful sub player, though, and kept energy levels high in later stages of games.

Sounds like Jolley prefers his teams to play a bit(?), and that's probably the opposite of how you'd describe what suits Whitehouse. He's someone who thrives off games where there's little time and he can get stuck in and rat around, not the technical side of the game and pass a ball because he's not got a great touch or amount of skill.

You'll get the best out of him with 3 CM's rather than two. He started getting game time here when we switched to 4-3-3 and when Bostwick had a spell at CB (Checkatrade Final being an example, which ironically enough was Whitehouse's best game for us by far).

He'll probably get 5 goals from midfield. Always in and around the right areas in the penalty box from set piece rebounds.

Can't blame him for taking the two-year and presumably first choice CM option. He dropped out of FT football, got back in to FT with us, and is probably keen to kick on a bit and that wasn't going to happen here for the reasons above.

Apparently we’ve more than doubled his wages, looks like Fenty’s properly backing Jolley for now.
