Be surprised if he wants to drop back down to league 2 at all, so soon after getting his big move up. Surely more likely to go to a league 1 club, Coventry interested apparently.

It’s not just that even if he wants to drop to L2 I think a few clubs are ahead of the pecking order too.

It'll be to get games I assume.

He was a great goalscorer last year, but I don't think he was as good as most Cheltenham fans would have you believe. I only saw him in home games where, of his 20 plus goals, he only scored 7 at home, including a hat-trick against Vale (by far his best performance). I was glad of the money that City paid because I believe he may well have suffered 2nd season syndrome had he stayed - especially with how poor we were at the start of the season.

To be fair that hatrick was the easiest he would ever score! If I recall two were colossal errors!

Surely he would go to League 1 and be in demand at that level mind. Would be ace alongside the Pope if we are spending this January although seem to be putting a lot into the Sykes move.

Matt Green to Salford is basically wrapped up and by all accounts, it's a terrific deal for a near 32 year old who's out of contract in the summer.

No transfer window in the NL, so he'll leave immediately and it'll leave us light up front for 3 games with only Rhead and Akinde but Salford will have paid a premium to get him this side of Xmas.
Reckon the young lad Adebayo-Smith might get some game time until we sign someone.

What’s the rumoured fee for Matt Green?
Six-figures is all that's been banded about at the minute.

If so, it'll not be up at the £250k or anything daft, so £100k-£150k is probably plausible.

Pretty good going for a 31 year old with 6 months to go. Matt has been exemplary whilst with us and cheers Peter Lim for the dollar.:£

Mark Palios said on radio Merseyside Norwood would not be sold. The Cup run means we can afford to risk letting him go on a free in the summer.

I don't think any club at this level can 'risk' turning down money for a player 6 months before the end of his deal, cup run or not.

Lincoln fan at work says it's 75k. Anything 50k+ is a great deal for Lincoln for a 32 year old out of contract at the end of the season, in my opinion.

Salford are just bonkers soc and everything that's wrong with football these days.
Think Greeny has been very unlucky this season to start just two league games this season.
One big day before he retires I would guess as I'm they will have given him a pay rise and it will come in handy as he's recently become a dad again.
Feel a bit grubby selling a player to them as it might stop either Leyton Orient or Wrexham returning to the league.

I suspect if an offer of around £1 million was made, it might be considered :)
Norwood’s goals are likely to be the difference between remaining in contention for the play-offs and dropping down the table. The player is more use to us than the money.

We said same about Doidge and think chairman thought it too but couldn't stand in his way. You'd be in a better position than us on that score as not a tiny newbie club but still might be a factor, no?

I fully understand why Greens took it but he’s still a good player at this level.

We were never going to stand in Doidge's way, and won't for any player getting an offer from a higher level from what I've heard. It's part of the plan to make us sustainable, budget now is less then when we were in the Conference. Sign em cheap, sell em big. We've brought in around £2m in player sales in the last 18 months. Doubt Tranmere will be too bothered as they're income comes from elsewhere and they don't need to sell.

So Salford sign Matt Green, I think he’ll find it hard to adapt myself, I mean he’s going to a club where most supporters in the ground are plastics who’ve only been going for a couple of years since they started winning, which after being at Lincoln will feel completely alien to him.

Already made that joke in the non-league section mate, no need to repeat it.

We’re apparently signing Jonte Smith from non league Lewes. Played for us in a behind closed doors friendly in the 2nd half and scored 3.

I do love a non league punt.

Yep, too good to be warming the bench in L2. Hell of an offer of 2½ years and Salford type wages at his age, though.

From what I've gleaned, it's non-performance related £100k and they've paid a bit more to get him this side of Xmas, which would tie in with the local paper describing it as 'substantial' and given where Green is in his career and that he was out of contract in the summer, that's probably ties in.

Must mean we have someone lined up to come in 1st January, though. You don't get rid of Green and risk having only two strikers for 4 or 5 weeks.

When you signed him I didn't think it would work out for both of you as I said at the time. Mansfield fans loved Green but he just didn't quite have it in him for a side going for promotion which is the aim for both of us.

I'm pleased that he's found somewhere where he'll prosper more (him and Rooney upfront in the conference! wow).

Green was given a unbelievable contract at Mansfield and I'm sure Lincoln had to do the same with the offers he had at the time. Fair play to him, since he went on loan to Mansfield all those years ago he's made a decent career and a lot of money.

Always amazed at how well Matt Green did for himself because when we had him on loan for the second half of the 09/10 season he was bloody dreadful.

Goes to show that you should never write a player off.

Danny Mayor to FGR is what I'm hearing.

Highly rated by Bury fans apparently.

The best player I've seen at the Abbey this season. Why are Bury letting him go?

Tom Pope signs a 2 year extension. Massive Xmas gift for the fans that. Vale through and through and now should break even more records for the club.

Absolutely massive for us, without him we would be non league, despite playing for months injured last season he kept scoring...

Feed the Pope!
