We have a decent record of getting lots of games out of previously crocked players. Eardley was almost an ever-present for us last year, playing more games than he had in any season before in his career, and more than the previous few years combined.

That’s probably due to the amount of time the ball spent in the air, and lower than average number of ‘total’ passes per game last season.

Arf arf. He got about a dozen assists last year from right back.

He'd better start building his neck muscles up as he'll be watching a lot of missiles fly over his head to the big man.

Disgusting. Would never happen here, with our analytics department we focus heavily on touch maps, completed passes, player positioning etc. Proper sophisticated. Possession and technique should be king at all levels, not hoofball and shithousery otherwise England will always be crap.

People like the Cowleys are holding the nation back.

Thats the biggest myth in football folks. Tactics and styles need to be adapted to the players you have. No point trying to play possession football with players who do not have the tactical nous, ability or the pitches to play it

Otherwise Barcelona and Man City would win everything and thank feck they don't. Possession football can be tedious

Remind me where FGR finished last year, and the year before, and then look where Lincoln finished. It ain't pretty, but it's effective.

It's not about us. It's about the good of the nation. Not only our first team, but also at development and youth level the focus is far more on developing players technique then results (we finished bottom of both leagues). That means these young lads are getting a proper footballing education, when we sold Jordan Stevens to Leeds, the development coaches there, who are mostly Spanish were surprised at how comfortable he is on the ball given the size of club he'd come from, as good as most of the foreign youth internationals they've hoovered up. If more clubs focused on making sure everyone is producing players who are good on the ball and can retain possession then long term we can catch up with the Spain's and Germany's of this world.

I’m not bothered about the national team tbh, maybe if I supported a premier league side or one that contributed players every 2 years to a major tournament I would.
But we aren’t quite there, so only really bothered about what my beloved Stylish Magpies do.

Agree 100%. Only care about my team and when England get knocked out I won’t be the least bit upset (nor surprised). Whereas if Exeter lose a game I am pissed off for ages...win and I am the happiest man going.

Which is why I said younger days...

I know but the significance of your comment is reduced massively Luke when it was a handful of games nearly a decade ago. You realise that don’t you? I can’t take it seriously

Personally I’ve changed as a player from 10 years ago, from a stamina packed overlapping full back to basically a sh!t plodder in front of the back 4

Disgraceful. Why don't you support your country?

Support? Yes. Hope they win? Of course. Would love to see a World Cup or Euros win in my lifetime. But I’ve never seen them live, have no desire to go down to Wembley to watch a qualifier against anyone. For me they are so far removed. Basically I’m a TV fan when it comes to England, bit like watching Man citeh yet without all the effective pretty football

Let alone worry about how 4th tier football league clubs are stylistically playing. Even when Notts were in the top 2 divisions consistently , we didn’t contribute much to the England national side. If only I was at least 10 years older and Scottish

Rumour has it that we ain’t signed anyone.

Why get ‘em in early and integrated into the squad and have to pay the fuckers when we can save a few quid in wages and sign them the day before our first game. It’s the way forward, don’t you know.

Michael Jolley might be in touch tbh

Interesting that we’re in for O’Connor, it’s a sign that Jolley has potentially been given a half decent budget.

You're certainly right about Butcher, he was a bit of mental case and his head wasn't in the right place at all - it appeared that he had some serious mental issues over something (according to some, but again that's speculation). I'd have thought dropping down 2 levels to Mansfield and not doing anything, then dropping down another 2 or 3 leagues (whatever division Billericay are in) and still not doing anything would be concerning. Whether he has the ability or not is a different matter, as we just didn't see it.

Regarding Miller, I do think he has the ability for this division, just not at a club with ambitions for promotion, with respect, somewhere like Morecambe, Macclesfield, Grimsby, Crawley etc wouldn't be a bad match for him though.
Heard we've spoken to him, no idea if we will take him from you or not but a discussion has taken place I've heard. But we're in talks with quite a few players right now, so anything could happen.

Our 14/15 season in the Conference we went and picked up Alan Connell from his house on the way to our first game away at Bristol Rovers having decided the day before to sign him for a month.

I've seen England play live a bunch of times. Don't give a shite about them. I'll still go if they are playing in the UK though because it's a good excuse for a piss up.

Anyway back to the real business.
We should have about a mil to put into our playing budget this season from additional player sales. I'm expecting a couple of big signings for that kind of money. We need a winger, a fast striker to partner stockley, a right back and maybe a center back.

Back on the Grimsby tip eh, Adam? Need to do better than that.

Given your epic return of 42 goals in 46 games last term, he could be just the man to take a punt on and get you some goals, if I were you I’d be interested.

Unless you're saying we go in for a player called Adam (Charlie?), you've lost me. :dk:
Edit: Oh you're on about Butcher/Miller? I didn't read your first paragraph or first of the second one, I just skipped straight to the juicy bit.

Reading between the lines we “could” sign someone tomorrow/Friday (I am guessing a defender) then we have a couple of wingers in discussions at the moment.

I don’t think we will be replacing O’Connor either, I guess they want Noble to have more of an impact :ffs:

Don't rule out GY in the O'connor hunt. He will go wherever the money is and the guarantee of first team football.

I did wonder. Miller, if on a decent enough wage could be the kinda rookie player to take a chance on if you're short on goals (obviously I appreciate that was last season under a different manager) - obviously his criminal record isn't fantastic

I wouldn't advise anyone went anywhere near Butcher, something wrong in his head

Weirdly I have a feeling we might lose out to Grimsby on this one.
