If the Anfield crowd and the team itself were as up for the less glamorous ties as they are for these bigger ones Liverpool might actually be a force to be reckoned with.

The commentator just said that they hadn't been ahead at home since December against City. That's no surprise.

Should have been a Mane hat trick there. Twice.

The crowd get nervy because of the side, as they are so inconsistent, capable of brilliance, and capable of absolute shite as we all know. Its a lack of confidence and you can't blame them for that; Klopp has been trying to change that, but its hard to break old habits.

Spurs had a real chance there, this game is far from over.

Bournemouth away. We could be 5-0 up and I'd still not be confident of the win until the 89th minute.

Indeed; even today this is the best we are playing in months, yet I am not confident of the three points at all.

It looks inevitable that you'll score again and I can't see Spurs scoring three.

Next goal for Spurs could be interesting, though.

Dembele is a poor man's Iniesta, and I mean that as a compliment; the control he has over the ball is stunning.

Well they did it against City and are the only side that can chase down Chelsea, so they have something to aim for. If they do get one back next, then we'll see the nerves I've been speaking about.

VERY important three points that. On to the next one. Maybe all we need is one week's rest.

Get in. Absolutely massive win to stop the rot, and against the team who are behind only Chelsea in terms of form. We didn't give Spurs a chance, first to most balls and closed then down well. It's great to score a couple of goals and, amazingly, keep a clean sheet.

Essential now we don't undo the confidence gained today next weekend against Leicester. Unfortunately, they're shit this season, which means we will likely struggle.

Great to win, but it makes the shit we have shown in the last few months all the more annoying. That first half was some of the best football I've seen from any team this season. Spurs simply couldn't live with it.

Onwards and upwards hopefully.

Great win for Liverpool against the only remaining contenders to Chelsea's throne.

Am I right in thinking that Liverpool have not lost against any of the other top 6 sides this season so far?

Chelsea are ahead off on their own like they have been all season but now the gap between second and sixth is two measly points (though City have a game to play and could break away from that slightly).

Extremely tight for the CL places.

Our record against the top 6 is the best of the top 6. I believe it has been for a few seasons. It's good but annoying in equal measure.

I would suggest it is more annoying considering where Liverpool could be right now had they not thrown points away against teams they really should be beating

Have a bit of respect for your club legends, Salty.
Yep I've always liked Lucas, but he's been fucking woeful at times - including the last game v Hull - this season. Good to see a wee break has sharpened him up again; he was outstanding yesterday. :)

Lucas is becoming a serious runner for player of the season imo. Fantastic game from him, as I expected.

Serious question here. Is Eric Dier rated in the EPL ? Just ask as any time I happen to watch a Spurs game, more often than not he's shit. Granted I don't see a lot of him so I may be off beam. but last night he got a few expletives from me.

He was excellent most of last year. One of the most consistent outfield players, not quite on Kante's level, but was acheiving a similar thing for Spurs. This year he hasn't been on form for whatever reason. Could be that his role has changed since Wanyama is there now, and he is occasionally filling in at CB rather than playing the same position each week.

He's playing at CB every week because we haven't had Vertonghen or Toby fit at the same time. With them two fit he'd play alongside Wanyama.
