You're asked to stand on the right of the escalators and the people on the tube sit in silence.

An alien society.

A single unitary authority for urban Dorset
I find that I can't spend more than 2-3 days at a time in London, or the place starts making me utterly miserable. I find it oppressive, as if there's some invisible blanket of pressure permeating the city. A pleasant football day of a weekend having a few beers is very enjoyable, spending a couple of nights during the week working anywhere around the city I find a struggle.

But then I'm from Dorset, and weez don't much like ee bloody gert big city.

I knew a guy from London who didn't know that thanking the bus driver was a thing.

It isn't.

Also, what the fuck else you gonner do on the escalator???

I was at an engagement party in the Forest of Dean a few years ago and I was walking with my mate from Weymouth. She started talking to people and I was like wtf mate how do you know them? She didn't and I never feel socially uncomfortable. I felt socially uncomfortable and slightly afraid.

I find generally the more north you go, the more friendly the general public are. London has always felt like a place that has a mentality of 'you keep yourself to yourself and don't talk to anyone'.

As someone from London, the escalator thing is a genuine bugbear. Its about the only rule you need to know to use the tube and really isn't that difficult to get your head round. Its fair enough if you're a BLOODY FOREIGNER but locals have no excuse.

On a sidenote, some prick nodded to me this morning in the middle of the street and said "Good Morning".

Standing on the right of an escalator is just polite - making way for people to get through if they want

Go to London! I guarantee you'll either be mugged or not appreciated. Catch the train to London, stopping at Rejection, Disappointment, Backstabbing Central and Shattered Dreams Parkway.

London. Personally I like it. Went there last November. It is a bit weird as you walk through the streets and find yourself, one minute in a metropolis of cultures and then as you walk towards Kensington, quite literally it seems across a street. You enter posh wine bars and head up to Hyde Park.
I like it because the world does seem to come together as one. People walk through posh suburbs with backpacks and nobody bats an eyelid. I just find it vibrant.
I've been to many cities and London is my favourite. If I was a writer. I'd go to London. It's what I expect my capital city to be. It doesn't disappoint. Or is it just me who gets caught up in the entire historical relevance of it all. It's history, it's architectural brilliance....it's unique charm.

We've had Saltire, now we just need Silkyman to pipe up to complete the 'I really hate London, me" set.

It has been over 20 years since I've been there, but from what I hear of it anyway with the gentrification, extortionate prices, and other things besides - not to mention it's full of tories - then I doubt it's gotten any better since then.

Every day I learn something new here. This time it's the word "Abseiling"....and it's even identical to the german one "Abseilen" (btw: Good luck, Salty):2thumb:.
Ah, back to topic: London? I love it, 'nuff said (and I love Edinburgh too, wonderful city)

Because, after all, the barometer by which all cities should be judged is the extent to which they accept Scottish notes as valid currency.

Priorities.
