Was a bit concerned about this game and rightly so. Well done Grimsby.

Second half we created enough chances to score 4 but so did Grimsby. Over the 90 they deserved the win you'd have to say. Bogle looks outstanding.

At 1 - 1 i was certain Luton were gonna win it and even at 2 - 1 i was fully expecting a late kick in the teeth equaliser so absolutely delighted with that one.

Didn't expect that today but sounded like a well deserved win and sounds like Omar Bogle's on fire.

What an absolutely outstanding win, have a feeling we'll have to take the rough with the smooth this season but so far I'm delighted.

Deserved win for Grimsby, stopped us from playing and in Bogle have a top forward. He bullied our defence today.

We did play better second half and at 1-1 have had a couple of really decent chances to go ahead that we really should have taken, Vassell in particular should have taken his that just seemed to squirt of his foot and over the bar, but really anything other than a Grimsby win would have been harsh on them.

Personally think Jones got it very wrong today. Missed out on the Wycombe game where he played well, so my last 2 viewings of Lee have been Cambridge, and today so it might be colouring my view substantially but really think Rea should be playing over Lee every time home or away, he provides a better balance to the team and its not like he is a bad ball player either which is what Lee is supposed to offer the team.

Somewhat surprised that Sheehan started today also and I was even more surprised he got man of the match from the sponsors, like I said Bogle has bullied our defence all day and Sheehan was a bit lucky to stay on the field first half. I think Cuthbert would have done a better job against a forward like Bogle, whether he would have nullified in him is somewhat doubtful I think but feel he would have done better than Sheehan did.

I go on about him a lot I know, but in my opinion its time to give Justin a go at right back, O'Donnel cannot keep getting in the team on the basis that he is an athlete anymore, he is borderline a liability and the clear weakness in the team.

Anyway, you cant win them all and I still think we have a good young team there who are going to get better, they did well to get themselves back in it today in the first place really.

Think this will be the case, Hurst seems to have built a very quick side that will be attacking and fast, however that is leaving us vulnerable at the back. We seem to have got better at the back in the last couple of games, just depends on whether it continues to improve and how long teams take to work out our strength is in our pace and nullify us.

Mind you if things carry on we are looking good for a top half finish based on the first 7 games which will be good for our first season back, but still a long way to go yet. A lot will depend on Bogle, if he carries on being the player we thought he would be when we signed him we will do well, but could equally end up losing him in Jan hopefully for a lot of money.

The Luton fans on this board are all down to earth good blokes, and not a single one of them comes up with the BBB you sometimes get from fans of the bigger sides.

Good win for you lot. Well done GY Grimsby

There really isnt that much that you can say after that other than you deserved to win, anyone who says any different wasnt watching the same game as me certainly!

You obviously did your homework on how to play us, performed it perfectly, especially first half and have a really very good forward in Bogle who was a complete handful who we couldnt get to grips with. It was really a very good performance and win from a Grimsby perspective.

A really frustrating performance today from Luton and the better team deservedly won. We just didn't get going until the 52nd minute. The first half performance was probably the worst of the season so far, they just didn't get to grips with Grimsby's play. We were overrun in the wide areas which is definitely our Achilles heel. It seemed like we didn't have a game plan at times. It consisted of lumping it forward just to be swallowed up by Gowling and Pearson every time.

Bogle looks an imperious player - I'll be surprised if he's still at Grimsby on Feb 1st.

To Luton's credit in the second half, after such a poor performance they could've been on the right end of that result. There were a couple of glorious chances and McKeown made a couple of fantastic saves. I suppose in a perverse way that's not a bad thing.

In terms of team selection, I suppose Jones was damned if he did, damned if he didn't. Cuthbert may have made the difference v Bogle, but at the end of the day they're two soft goals that should've been dealt with.

Bogle is way over-rated, I think we need to make that point loud and clear.

Serves me right for jumping the gun with rugby tickets...

I was going to post how Grimsby deserved the win and Bogle looks like a very good player but it seems about 50 other posters have beaten me to it.

Disappointing from Luton today but the second half at least showed a bit of life and from his comments after the match it sounds like Jones might have finally realised what everyone else saw a long time ago that Olly Lee isn't very good at football.

Just like to join in the 'nice Luton fan' love-in.

Apart from 15/20 minutes in the second half Grimsby were well on top and fully deserved the win. But what I liked was that they actually came to play the game and try to win - I'm struggling to think of the last team to arrive at the Kenny with the intention of attacking and trying to win. (Although how the keeper managed to reach stoppage time before picking up a yellow for time-wasting I don't know - the Ref must have warned him at least half a dozen times.)

From our point of view, well if such a high percentage of passes, short and long, go straight to the opposition, we don't stand much chance of winning. From the highs of last week to the lows of this, oh well, just shows that we are nowhere near as good as some people would have you believe. I hope that Nathan Jones is open-minded enough to see that some of the players are not really justifying their apparently automatic places.

For starters, McGeehan, Pelly, Potts, Lee
Marriott hasn't really got going yet.
O'Donnell is too inconsistent..
I could go on, but I also think, and have said several times, that I'm not over keen on the pyramid system that Nathan Jones prefers. We often seem to be over-run in midfield, even for a lot of the second half v Wycombe, and given that Rea is the only midfielder who can tackle we often concede that area. It also means that we regularly lack width, so that any team with any sort of tactical nous can stifle us too easily.
Don't be fooled by the big wins that we have had so far, in each of those games we could easily have gone behind, and for spells in each we were struggling.

I thought Pelly sprayed the ball around for your lot nicely today. Was always worried when he had the ball infront of our box. Not one of our players had a bad game today though, by far our best and most complete performance of the season. Omar is just unstoppable at the moment. Great to see him putting it all together after last year when he was promising but inconsistent.

Interesting, think i share some of that.

I too have a few reservations about the diamond. For me, the 2 weakest players are our full backs and the formation exposes them and asks them to do a whole lot, having said that I think we have some decent creative players and the formation allows most of them on the pitch at once so there are positives and negatives to it and I can see why it's favoured by Jones. It does sort of mean that the book is essentially out on how to beat us though.

I really think if Rea plays consistently as the holding player a lot of the issues willl if not be solved at least lessened as he gives us a foothold there and is a player who has really impressed me so far.

I see your point about some of our wins but I think it's a little much to expect us to dominate 90 minutes of a match start to finish, the opposition get paid as well and all that and we have played and created a heck of a lot of chances so far this year, even today we had our moments.

For the players you mention, I agree on Marriott that he hasn't really got going yet but he does still look threatening and is getting in good areas, he wasn't in the game a great deal today and still forced 2 good saves for instance, O'donnell as hinted at above i just don't think is particularly good, his best games are just average and his worst he is a liability.

I thought Pelly was actually alright today, especially second half were he made some decent passes, with some typical "Pelly moments" thrown in though of course as he is one of those players.

McGeehan perhaps less so, I've said before on here that his all round game is a bit frustrating as it was today he wasn't really in it at all and his stroppy outbursts are beginning to annoy me now as well. His little outburst at Cook over the corner I thought was a little OTT today.

Overall though I think we've played well in the main this year, and I'd be hesitant to make many changes after what was really our first genuinely poor performance of the year.

It didn't really work for us yesterday. We seemed to be going too direct too early. Always seemed to be looking for the killer pass when it just wasn't on. Our approach seemed completely different to last week.

Selection was wrong today. With Bogle up front, Cuthbert had to play. He is our biggest, strongest centre half and has had a great season. I like Sheehan a lot, but he shouldnt jut be put in because he is fit. Cuthbery can feel very hard done by. Also it was very clear we needed Glen Rea in the anchor role, Olly Lee will never fulfil it.

All that said I do think we picked up a lot in the second half and Vassell should have made it 2-1. Credit to Grimsby, they were really effective and Omar Bogle is a handful. Not sure about his song though, unless it's to a tune I'm not aware of. Dom Vose and Gowling are a lot better than I remember them being and stood out alongside Bogle for me. Second half was pretty even however their first half display means they deserved the win.

Special mention to McKeown. Really disliked him in the Conference and it's good to see he hasn't changed. No-one time wastes quite like him.
