Crewe were pretty average at best today like ourselves, but just like the Lincoln game we set them up for a goal (two in this case) via ridiculously poor mistakes. Both very well taken to be fair.

We are just completely out of ideas when attacking, Walker, CJ, Grant are all desperately out of form. Considering the away form of Crewe, and the positions of both teams in the league this is a absolutely devastating defeat and I’m struggling to see a route to L1 right now.

Up to Flitcroft to earn his salary now, he’s got to get these lads back performing with confidence or he’s gunna spectacularly fail.

Hope the 1000 Mansfield fans that have gone missing since Monday night are found safe and well. Xx

Artell nearly creamed his knickers at that first goal by the way, he really enjoyed the upset

Anybody know if it was a penalty for us in the first half? Referee was abysmal but can only blame ourselves - I think anybody at the moment playing us know we are there for the taking.

Decent away performance. Two equally matched sides, similar to the Tranmere game but this time we had the substitutions to change the game. When Ainley finds consistency he’ll be unstoppable.

In terms of skill, technical ability and potential to play highest in the pyramid, I would Ainley is way ahead of all those mentioned. Now, if we are talking about who will actually achieve that, then yes, I can see those players achieving more than him. But that simply means they have a stronger mentality than him, because they've worked out what to do to make themselves consistent.

I'm interested to see what you think Kirk is better at.

I’m with you on that. Ainley is the first since Nick Powell to have that Powell factor about him. The fact he only shows it a handful of times a season is incredibly frustrating. Comparing them all at their very best, Ng is the only one who comes close to him but Ainley a game changer. The only thing that will hold him back in his career is his consistency.

Calm down guys. Ainley is class in flourishes, such as today. But he is poor 90% of the time and absolutely no where near Powell levels.

Don't think you will find anyone that disagrees with you. It's just very frustrating as we all know he's capable. Games like today and Tranmere at home show that.

That’s why he is in league two though surely? Consistency is what then makes you a top player. Often get wingers for example who are unplayable and think what they doing in league two but then anonymous the next game.

Why?

We are battling for automatic promotion and this *on paper* was one of our fixture you most expect a win.

We weren’t well matched on the day Crewe were far better, and we aren’t matched over the season, we’re far better

As was the case last season these games you hope should be 3 points on the board aren’t

Pretty much that. It's just a Crewe thing. But it's what you get with a team full of young academy graduate s with good potential, some weeks they are brilliant others they make mistakes and are poor. They're effectively learning on the job. It's very frustrating but the weeks it does all come together it's also very rewarding and there is a sense of pride in the club. Which is very important at the moment with everything that's going on off the field and on the court rooms and media.
Throw a handful of more experienced guys into the squad and that'd help. It's admirable that the Board want to go that way, but you'll not get very far doing so.

There’s a can of worms that’s been well sifted through over the years. Whether we’d be better off with less of an academy focus is the Crewe Alex Brexit, argued about long before Brexit was even a thing.

Considering the size of both clubs, this defeat hurts. The smaller clubs always get motivated when coming to the Mill.

When was the last season you were in a higher league than our smaller club? Because I can't remember it.

Infact my best memory of Mansfield is the 02/03 season. I think we beat you 5 times that season. But I remember always rooting for you, as you seemed like the plucky little team at the bottom of the league that was impossible to dislike.

2-0

I disagree the only difference were two mistakes we made and Crewe punishing us both times. They were worthy of the win.

Even the squad they were in had the likes of Schemichel, Irwin, May, Johnson etc. You still need a few experienced heads in there.

Gary pallister, steve Bruce, Brian mcclair, Paul Parker mark Hughes to name a few others.

A perfect blend of youth and experience can be the perfect recipe, but it has to have the experience and leadership on the pitch also

What’s that whooshing noise I can hear?

Wouldn’t know left your door open again?

Being advised on attendances by Lincoln fans is akin to being advised on parenting by the mccanns
