He's been getting a lot of unfair grief and thought sod it. If he wants an easier time of it while bagging plenty of cash good luck to him.

Came in here to start this very thread. Wanted to see peoples thoughts on football now that referees are even getting transfers to bigger money than what the Premier League pays them.

Meh, he's a referee, I have no issue with him 'chasing' the money. It's not like he's a multi-millionaire footballer who is set for life moving to China in the prime of his career. He's a man earning a very good wage (apparently 70-100k a year) maximising his income. He was easily the best referee in the Premier League, I wonder if the league made him a counter offer to stay.

He is the best referee since I can remember. Everytime I saw him on the pitch, I believed it would be good game. Cant blame him for chasing money. But the games will certainly be worse without him.

Can't blame him for getting himself a better deal, he is a good ref but did like to make it the all about him show from time to time like Graham Poll used to.

Never forgiven him for sending off Gerry Taggart in Boskamp's first game. Awful decision.

I'll always remember him for ruining our FA cup final, and then going on to have faultess performances in the Champions League final and the European Championship final straight after.

I'll always remember him for being the first to realise Adam Lallana had gone "big time".

Shame we complained about it.

Can't blame him trying to get more wedge, we'd all do the same. What worries me more is that there appears to be a problem with how officials are supported. The assessor system was tried and tested, getting rid of it was a mistake.
