Agreed, selfishly only read the bit about Pools and skimmed the rest but definitely must've took some work, so hats off.

Aldershot (and Boreham Wood, apparently )
Comprehensive and balanced piece of work, must have taken a long time to put together. At this early stage, can’t really argue with the conclusions. Top seven looks right, in whatever order. Wrexham for me. Beware of Boreham Wood.

Not much to argue with there. Well done!

I am still not convinced by Chesterfield, who seem widely tipped to be challenging for the title. Looking at their squad I just can't see it. What am I missing? I know they finished the season top of the form table but they didn't play anyone of note. Dovers turn around in form was more impressive.

Apart from the Spireites I'd agree with most of what you said.

Although I reckon we can crack the top 10 this year, have to agree with your assessment of Barrow. A goalscorer is all we're really lacking, and the squad is well balanced.

I said elsewhere that if we're doing well, Evatt will undoubtedly be in demand. You have to imagine that if Chesterfield or Blackpool are looking for a manager at any point in the season, he'd be a top candidate.

Nice preview, not alot to disagree with.

Fylde and Solihull will challenge for the title, Chesterfield look better under Sheridan, but Fylde and Solihull have the leagues two best strikers each.

Solihull have kept the majority of the same squad as well - IMO this sort of thing can get overlooked sometimes in football. Everyone always wants new signings but sometimes a bit of continuity is all thats needed. Last summer we only signed 2 players, but strengthend in January.

I liked the look of Barrow last season under Evatt, I can't see him staying there too long if Barrow push for the playoffs. Bromley have signed wisely IMO as well.

Can only see brothers Yeovil and Notts County steadying the ship this season - Like many ex league clubs before them.

I can’t disagree with anything you’ve written about us in the article. I’m hopeful that we can do a bit better, but finishing 8th gets you as much as finishing 11th does in this league.

Well written, but we're gonna finish above bloody Chesterfield.

Can't wait for that to bite me on the arse come April.

Pretty accurate write up for us and with the squad we have we should be looking at the top 7.

I do think we'll fall short though. Jury is out on the defence. Haven't been 'whelmed' by Fraser Kerr yet, Kioso is still raw and Kitching is shit but can't argue with our midfield options, all 735,000 of them.

Luke Molyneux is the most important signing we've made. He can win games on his own at this level. Get him, Kabamba and Luke James/Traore/Luke Williams firing and with that midfield, then there's a lot of potential in that side.

We'll just concede too many sloppy goals and miss out. Big season though, this time we have no excuses with off field crap any more, or being lumbered with dead wood.

Beware of Boreham Wood.

Sounds like a horror movie!!!!

Just logged on from my phone from the poolside to see if anybody had commented so very chuffed to see a positive response from all so far.

It’s very appreciated.

Please feel free to share on your own club message boards (although a friend has sent me the link of a Sutton fan sharing it on their message board where a few fans have torn the Sutton paragraphs apart )

That article is proper half-arsed - and no way Chesterfield are bottom half, while the Notts County analysis is pure guesswork.

The fact they think Notts County will be relegated shows they know very little about this league and how awful you actually have to be in order to be relegated.

Famous last words, but even with the players we've limped through from last season with I don't think we'd be relegated. If we can sign a couple of defenders this week then we should be fine.

I've got no problem with people disagreeing with me, and am always happy to defend/discuss/be proven wrong, but I'd be very interested to know what makes you feel qualified to call a 3,000 word article, underpinned by over forty hours of research, half-arsed?

You don't think the conclusions I've drawn based on the squads are accurate, that's fine. The only thing certain about predictions is that you'll be wrong somewhere. All predictive analysis is, to some degree, guesswork. How was I to know that within 24 hours of writing Notts Co would be bought out? Or that Solihull would drastically improve their defence with the record-signing of Callum Howe?

Feel free to criticise the views - I wouldn't put it out there if I couldn't take that, but to label something which has taken a huge amount of time and effort "half-arsed" is pretty poor. It's comments like that, from people like you, which have caused people who I know to drop out of commenting on the game they love.

I'm more surprised by Solihull being so low. I agree Dover could be a bit of a surprise package, although play offs would be an unbelievable season for them. Some interesting thoughts.

As you predicted us to go up through the play offs I of course think it is a really credible piece and will defend it to the hilt.

Yeah that's a fair comment re: Solihull. I do think I may have underestimated them, and the transfer of Callum Howe (less than 12 hours after I pressed "publish" irritatingly) would probably impact both their and Harrogate's seasons.

The question is- how many goals Effiong, Pavey & Rigg can score to push up the table?

Effiong will get 7 in 40 games. All 7 coming within a 10 match period. He’ll win one header all season.

Hope this answers your query.
