One thing i personally seem to view about Donald trump is he is utterly desperate to be remembered for something when president......not sure if he is bothered what or the consequences, but he does not want to be a president who will leave office and be pretty forgotten in regards to anything achieved.

N Korea is perfect for him really.

Just bomb the bastards and be done with it. It'll have to be done one day.

Did Trump ever get planning for that golf course in Scotland?

Having America policing the world fills me with a sense of foreboding.

I wouldn't compare America to the police. The cops don't violate your sovereignty, plunder your assets, murder you and then pretend they did it to keep the public safe.

Oh shit, wait...

So, what's the answer then? It's fine saying "don't nuke 'em" (and I'm onboard with that) but doing nothing doesn't seem to be working.

Do China need to cut all ties with them so their economy and infrastructure can't operate? But then you bring the country down which could be a nightmare.

It's s bit "rock and hard place" isn't it?

China are the only authority who can possibly resolve this, as the only power NK will listen to.

China do have a vested interest in keeping North Korea as they are. A buffer between them and the 'westernised', US allied South Korea is handy, but they also don't want NK to collapse and send a refugee flood onto their border. Keeping the dynasty in power, just about operating as a functional country, and aggressive towards the rest of the world suits China just fine. Although a now seemingly nuclear armed power on their doorstep isn't so good mind. That might just tip the balance into China taking a more punitive stance now?

If I don't see mushrooms over Pyongyang soon, I'll be writing a strongly worded letter to Trump.

Yes, China wouldn't want the American military potentially at its border if North Korea went down and the Korean peninsular effectively, eventually, became what South Korea is now. However, I reckon they'd not mind so much if it were only South Korean troops there.

I also reckon the American military wouldn't need to be on the Korean peninsular if North Korea wasn't a thing.

That means one way out of this could be if China tells the US that they'll support action that removes the North Korean regime so long as the Americans all fuck off out to Japan or Guam once it's over and leave the Korean peninsular to the Koreans. It'd take compromise on both sides and the US would certainly be giving up some ground, but it sounds a better option than reconvening the Korean war.

IMO

So does North Korea no longer have nukes thanks to Hurricane Irma? I get that it's horrific but you'd be forgiven for forgetting about the North Korean thread if you wanted the news this weekend.

Same with any news. Not really hearing about Grenfell anymore for example.

Another missile fired by the North over Japan and into the Pacific, with South Korea firing two missiles back into the sea off the North. :conf:

I don't understand why South Korea/Japan/USA just don't shoot down any missile launched by North Korea. Surely they have the capability

I don't think it's that easy with a ICBM.

It was and it failed. W Bush tried to bring it back and that failed too.

This season of international handbags really has me on the edge of my seat.

Let's hope it doesn't end up being edge of the stratosphere eh?
