It's been two or three years since last time round so it's time again. It's pointless and the reigning champion is of course Wayne Rooney with most mentions in 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014 (2016 postponed due to Brexit).

I thought of this because I want to nominate Dwight Gayle. People think he's shit but I think he's perfectly average.

Also, Willian! He's not as good as people think, he's 6/10 with the ability to shine once per three months.

Go on.

Overrated - hate to say it because I loved him at Newcastle, but Cabaye has looked a shadow of his former self for Palace recently. Harsh to say too, as he's been out for ages but Lamela. Will have an almighty fight on his hands to get back into the Spurs starting line-up, his area of that particular landscape has been going from strength to strength since his absence. Stones and Pogba too or course. Oh Vardy too, arguably the best Conference player of all time and had a great Premier League two seasons ago but has looked out of his depth for large parts of the last season. In his defence though, he is capable of putting in decent performances.

Underrated - Steven Davis, quality player. Can't think of a time he ever really had a bad game for Southampton. Not flashy or outspoken, just gets the job done.

Probably had his worst season (not the only one in our squad) with us last year though. :( He is class though and that's been proven by Mauricio Pochettino and Ronald Koeman both keeping him in as a key part of the team of the years.

Overrated

Dusan Tadic (Southampton)
Fraser Forster (Southampton)

No one rates these two.

Also, I'd argue that Sakho is now overrated after his brief spell at Palace. I just remember watching a Southampton team, who weren't known for scoring goals last season stick three past him. However, that was glossed over by his perofmrances on Sky and now he's rated at £30m.

Tadic has been linked to Liverpool, has he not? So someone must rate him. Some have also called for Forster to be made England's number one.

Sakho and Monreal definitely get enough to credit.

Overrated:

Coquelin. Plugged a gap when Arsenal needed it, but shouldn't really be anywhere the starting XI when everyone's fit

Underrated:

Liverpool signed Rickie Lambert last time they reached the Champions League. Maybe last year Forster would have been in with a shout for England, but not now. People are calling for Alex McCarthy to start over him here when he gets back from injury.

As International football has proven, the entire England team can be considered to be overrated in the Premier League.

For underrated, the obvious ones for me are Silva, Herrara, Eriksen and Valencia. Sure more will come to me in the weeks to come.

Silva and Eriksen? Probably considered two of the best...I dunno, five or so attacking midfielders of the last 5 years.

Probably had his worst season (not the only one in our squad) with us last year though. :( He is class though and that's been proven by Mauricio Pochettino and Ronald Koeman both keeping him in as a key part of the team of the years.
Fair enough, I haven't watched a right lot of Southampton this year, admittedly.

For us, in the media and pundit comment Adam Smith is always talked up and praised, he's even being linked to Spurs right now. For the life of me I've no idea why, we need to upgrade his position ourselves, never mind lose him to Spurs. Our most over-rated player for me. Perhaps he has a well connected agent.

Conversely Charlie Daniels and Ryan Fraser are under-rated, rarely mentioned and their contributions mostly go unnoticed. Fine by me, if other clubs don't come in for them.

More generally speaking, Underrated: I'm constantly in awe of Kevin De Bryune - whilst he's clearly known to be a good player I don't think he's talked about in quite the circles I think he should. At Barca or Real he'd be considered one of the top handful of players in the world.

Overrated: Arsenal's Bellerin and Xhaka. Both pretty ordinary players IMHO.

Tadic is over-rated by quite a number of people because he catches the eye with some stunning performances, but goes missing for most of the season. Nathan Redmond I would also throw into the mix - seen as a promising English player, always thought he was bang average at Norwich and hasn't changed my mind since. Steven Davis certainly underrated, Northern Ireland's best player by a mile.

Overrated: Cabaye, Silva, Zaha, Townsend, Walker, Robson Kanu*, Gestede*
Underrated: Azpilicueta, Fernandinho, Cazorla, Monreal, Herrera, Valencia, Dembele, De Bruyne, Firmino, Lanzini, Allen, Coleman, Trippier.

*no one rates either of these players, I just find it baffling that they are/were in the Premier League at all. Both are rubbish.

Fair enough, I haven't watched a right lot of Southampton this year, admittedly.

Silva should be up for POTY, and pretty much every years preceding award too. He's the closest the Premier League has to Iniesta, a fabulous player.

As for Eriksen, he is Spurs' best player, their creative lynchpin and absolutely integral to everything they do. It's obvious why, say, Alli is hyped up more, but Eriksen is a far more important player.

Good shouts on Azpilicueta and Cazorla - the latter being criminally underrated prior to injury. Cazorla, Sanchez and Ozil a planet about the rest of Arsenals outfield players.

As for overrated, a special mention to Rose who somehow got in the team of the year despite only playing half a season - ahead of the far superior Alonso.

Yeah I'm surprised he ventured into this thread tbh a couple of years back when we were more hateful on here we'd have made him quit football.

I think Eric Dier is very overrated. Not a bad player but if England had a half decent DM/CM, he'd be nowhere near it. It's one of the areas Spurs need to upgrade if they want to win the title also.

Going through the top sides for overrated I'll go with Koscielny, Ozil, Wilshere for Arsenal; Cahill and Cesc at Chelsea; Stones, Nasri and Navas at Man City; Lloris and Lamela for Spurs; Bailly, Rooney, Januzaj, Carrick, Mkhitaryan, Herrera, Shaw and Pogba (at this moment on that price tag its not justified, but the potential is there for him to become great); Barkley, Lukaku and Tom Davies at Everton; and for the rest of the league sides I'll put in Shaqiri. There's probably a few others I've forgotten about as well.

Underrated: Oxlade-Chamberlain, Giroud, David Luiz, Azpilicueta, Mousa Dembele, Son, Andy Carroll (yep I went there come at me!), David Silva (I still don't think people really appreciate just how good he really is), Jordan Henderson, Firmino, Matip, Wijnaldum, Zaha.

That'll do for just now, no doubt Stevencc will be replying shortly.

And United are supposedly after him with Fabinho and Matic as the fall-back options.

He's a good versatile option for a squad since he plays CB also. But yeah, I'm of the opinion he's solid but benefits more from the lack of top draw options around. Prime Carrick pisses all over him.

Just an unbiased opinion that's all. No need for name-calling. ;)

Just to choose one, have you heard anyone say a single positive word about Wayne Rooney in the last three years - besides the same English pundits that have licked his sphincter since the day he broke through?
