Michael Brown takes charge of his first game as temporary Vale boss tonight against the struggling spireites in a must not lose game for the Valiants.

Defeat could see the Vale slump into the mire after one win in 11 but Vale fans will hope Bruno's departure will see Vale ditch his bizarre unworkable tactics and actually see an attacking Vale side!

4-5-1 should likely become 4-4-2, zonal marking should be ditched and players should finally play in their correct positions!

It is likely to be an emotional night for all concerned at Port Vale following this mornings tragic news and to a degree will put the result regardless into perspective but hopefully the lads can go out and win it for Matty Carragher. RIP young man!

With players back, in correct positions and workable tactics hopefully we can start a turnaround tonight. Browny won't take any shit that's for sure!

Why has this been moved to a Friday night? Must be the most unappealing trip in the country at this time of year on a Friday night!

Think we will get hammered as well, our away form is terrible!

So was Walsalls until last Monday! Although no Bruno now.

The official line I believe is to give both clubs an extra day to recover for Monday!

Purkiss recovers miraculously from 'injury' for his first start since a rumoured fall out with Bruno 2 months or so back! Tavares disappears off the face of the earth!

Pretty non event. Jones chucking up means he misses out which is a huge blow and tied our hands massively.

Referee is appalling, the number 28 for Chesterfield is diving around like a sack of shit and the referee is buying it every time. Seems a decent player but the way he goes down is sad to see.

Very stop start, neither keeper had to do much.

I am really gutted that I am sat at home, in the warm with a nice glass of wine and not at VP having read that report

Upped the gears second half and deservedly won. Streete and Smith were superb, Evans was in their pocket. Massive win! Defence actually looked solid considering we've looked like conceding a hatful in recent weeks Jak had nothing to do all night.

That referee though!

Poor first half, referee gave us nothing but a gust of wind blowing their winger and was a free kick. Chesterfield were allowed plenty of possession but didn't threaten bar when Evans kicked the ball out of Alnwicks hands and the referee didn't pull it up! We threatened rarely but when we did we had a couple of decent opportunities with Reg forcing a near post save and Kelly blazing over when he should hit the target.

Second half we pushed the midfield up further and dominated, pinning them back. De Freitas was superb going forward and finally got the goal our pressure deserved and a rare bit of luck with Thomas cross deflecting in.

Chesterfield pushed on a bit but rarely caused problems bar their winger getting one on one at an angle and Knopps cutting it out.

Great chance for young Dan Turner to score in injury time, left their right back for dead and Evatt got a last ditch block when he seemed certain to score.

Defensively far more solid, first game since October we've actually had more shots! Been conceding shots against at over double figures in most games, will take time to turn the corner fully and Brown to get it spot on, see if Varney comes in shortly and who else follows but a result at Oldham and all of a sudden we can start to feel positive.

Chesterfield looked poor considering they actually have some good experienced players such as Evans, O'Shea and Evatt, the 28 would be a decent player if he wasn't more interested in diving! Showed glimpses of real quality then went down like a sack of shit!

Good applause for Carragher too.

The quality of the game was awful, reminded me of a school playground kickabout at times, with everybody just chasing the ball but having no idea what to do when they got it. Despite this I enjoyed it, certainly couldn't fault the players effort.
