He must have been ok for a while at least to have played over 100 games for you?

His appearances came at a time when Pools were going through our worst period in history, the slide from League 1 to Conference, the change of scenery might do him some good, but the Lewis Hawkins we finally dumped is dog muck.

I didn't make the game unfortunately but by all accounts were largely in control.

We had left back Ben Jackson from Huddersfield in the Starting XI. Played for Darlo last year on loan I think.

Last game is this Saturday away at Old'n Pathetic

Ahem :bl: ,.. thats a pretty one sided view ? At least we managed to score a goal against you lot at last, albeit an OG :woot: Stockport were solid as ever but judging by the frustrated port fans round us when we were dominating play, maybe you would think differently had you been there. Only when we swopped the whole team for the last 30 mins were you in the ascendancy. I think you will do well in the prem but maybe lack a cutting edge ? Very well organised as ever. If we play like that thro the season we will tear a load of teams to shreds.

My apologies Mr Pieman if I caused any offence, there was certainly none intended. I have simply read reports on the game made available at the time. I went on altyfans forum for an alternate view but alas hardly any postings about the game.

I hope Alty have a good season and get back to the Conf Prem which is probably the right level for you guys.

No offence m8, its funny how people see what they want to see from a game,.. if you read our managers view its vastly different from your media guy's match report.

https://www.altrinchamfc.com/news/x-factor-arnold-nathans-got-the-knack-of-making-things-happen

Results dont matter in psf, its performances that do, both teams performed really well, it was a really entertaining game which only lost its fine balance when we took 10 players off.

We have a decent chance of getting back into the conf prem,.. but staying there would be our biggest challenge as financially we would be nowhere near unless something happens to greatly increase our income.

Worrying 2-3 defeat tonight against a very young Arsenal XI. Ravaged by injuries for the third season in a row, we had an LB at RB and CM at CB, looked awful defensively and were torn apart by pace over and over early on.

Got gradually better as the game went on, but any of the many fans who think a centre forward will solve all our problems got a nasty shock tonight. Need two new defenders IMO and a midfield playmaker.

We've got our last official friendly on Saturday against the Sheff Utd U-23 side that Hartlepool played - but then we have a behind closed doors match against West Brom midweek which oddly enough is being played at West Brom's training ground - so whether this is part of us assessing potential loanees (we had Kyle Jameson from them last season) or something else i'm not sure???

Last pre-season friendly for us this weekend away at Old'n Pathetic.

We were originally supposed to play Macclesfield but Macc couldn't host the game so it was cancelled and we rearranged a friendly with Mansfield. That was also cancelled on police advice because of the Nottingham Pride festival?! - No idea what Nottingham Pride has to do with a nothing pre-season friendly between 2 teams who have no history of a rivalry.

So then we arranged a friendly with Hyde United, before it changing again to Oldham Athletic as their friendly with Bolton has been postponed.

Did you follow all that?

Anyway, a good opportunity to test ourselves against a team from a higher division before we kick of the National League season in front of MILLIONS of armchair supporters against Maidenhead.

We’re ‘away’ at Sutton Common Rovers tonight in what will most likely be a mixture of youth and fringe players as we’re also playing Chelsea Under 23s tomorrow this time at home (although both matches are at Gander Green Lane)

Alfreton complete their preseason program with the visit of Notts County tonight to the Impact. Any notts fans coming down?

Not me Sith, although after the great news i wish I'd bothered.
We're supposed to be playing a split team with half going to York tomorrow.
hopefully we'll compete as we have done all pre-season to be fair. Should be a spring in their step tonight.

Final psf for United today against our beloved friends from up the road.

The Angels host Kingstonian (aka Merstham Old Boys) at Longmead...where tributes will be paid to Charlie Slocombe who passed away earlier this week.

We currently have 9 of our probably first team XI out injured. Third season in a row now - there is no other club at this level with an injury record like ours. It’s absolutely shambolic.

You were the first team to actually expose that we only have like two defenders on the books (one of whom didn’t play) all pre-season. Looked a useful side.

We had plenty of the ball but very exposed on the break, as you’d expect I guess.

We're getting murdered by altrincham and we're practically full strength. Just what we need a week before the season starts

Things were looking up a couple of weeks ago but we look to be in serious trouble now. I can't think of a logical explanation for why so many first teamers are out today.

I'm really close to just being done with all this. Constant injury crises have ruined our club for the best part of two years. It looked like we were over it around the turn of the year but it seems to be back and I think most fans are so fatigued by it all that things could get very nasty quite soon.

I know us Barnet fans (well, me tbh) have a reputation for being overly pessimistic but we really are being dealt a bad hand season after season, and without the insight into what is actually happening with us it's hard to appreciate how shit it is. Yes, it's not as bad as administration or having Alan Hardy as an owner, but we're definitely in the bottom 5 in this league for having a continually shit time.

How many other teams in this league start the season with 9 (NINE) first team players out? In fact, how many in any league? Given our facilities it's either catastrophically bad luck, or just sheer incompetence from the medical/fitness team + Kleanthous for appointing them or not getting rid sooner. The malaise surrounding our club is ridiculously bad and I really can see it all imploding this season.

Don't know what on earth we're doing. Advertised half of our preseason games as first team games, and half has been pretty much a run out for the U23's.

Don't get the reasoning why we haven't fielded them, but Pemberton, on the face of it, looks massively undersupported by this circus so maybe he's ensuring we have no injuries going into next week. Having no first choice GK and literally a bare 11 to start next week is pretty ominous.

Losing 4-1 at Halesowen.

1-0 defeat at St Albans then, I pray we deliberately played an XI lineup and that is not our strongest available XI, but I suspect it is.

We lost 1 nil at home to Crewe.

We've been trialing a 3 at the back formation. It doesn't seem to work so not sure if we'll be using it in the season. Right now it's not ready so I hope not.

And you didnt like it, that was no friendly, some very tasty challenges throughout, useless ref. Finished 3-1, we shouldnt be beating teams like you, tipped to win the Conf prem this year.
We did ride our luck a bit, your set piece deliveries were mint, Rowe should had a couple more really. Unfortunately we lost a couple injured which isnt good thanks to the useless ref but looking forward to the season ahead.

Whopped a pretty garbage looking Macclesfield side 3-0 at home, Featherstone, Toure, Raynes, Toure skied a penner that he won also.

One week to go :woot:

Lost 5-2 at home to an impressive Burton Albion side...

We were 4-1 down by half time before we made a couple of changes to formation from the 5-3-2 to a much more positive 4-3-3 resulting in a better second half performance..

Positives from pre season:
- Spyrou, Mandeville & Coddington look to be really good additions and have definitely improved us from last year
- Played against strong opposition which will have hopefully helped Sheridan learn what our weaknesses are ahead of the big kick off
- Will Evans is still a unit and needs the captains armband, what a man

Negatives:
- Conceded a lot of goals, whether that’s down to the quality of opposition we have faced or if we’re just plain shite at the back is yet to be seen
- Anthony Gerrard just looks overweight and not been impressed with him at all tbh. Hopefully when the competitive games come we see the real quality of him that Sheridan has spoke about
- I think we’re lacking one more attacking midfielder with pace, and a proper out and out right back.

From what I’ve seen, my prediction for starting line up vs Dover next Saturday is:

Coddington
Smith - Evans - Gerrard - Hollis - Buchanan
Mandeville - Weir - Rowley
Spyrou - Boden

Has to be said that the Sheff Utd team looked very weak (suspect their better players are out on loan), but we look ready for the season now.

Some great additions to the team, and we've got more strength in depth than last year. We need to sign Fox and another defender to be covered in all areas.

Only starting player I have doubts about is Quigley - suits our style but seems worryingly flimsy for a big man.

Solid pre season
Wins away 1-3 vs Halesowen, 1-3 vs Blues u23, 1-3 vs Leamington, 0-1 vs Telford, 0-4 vs Ilkeston
Followed home draws 0-0 vs Burton and 1-1 vs Oxford not sure how strong the Oxford team was, i doubt it was their strongest.
Looks from today the signing of Howe signals that we we will play a 3-5-2 this coming season. Whilst its good to have adaptable tactical approaches, especially as we will not be such a dark horse this season and many will have 'sussed' us. I am not sure it is the best formation for us, judging largely, but not wholly, on the way Fylde fairly rolled us over in the play offs.

Last night we should’ve lost but 0-0 to West Ham kids and today we drew 2-2 at Hornchurch, that’s pre season done with.

We are looking like bang average bottom half/mid table side for the coming season. Very weak up top and I think Taylor wants to go long ball to Quigley, Yeah cry for us. Should be defensively sound to get a few points but it’s going to be boring.

Prediction 11th-15th.
