As bugger all is currently happening transfer wise at the moment, I was wondering if clubs had any youngsters on the verge of breaking into first team squads that are causing a genuine stir?
While our academy is really quite good, we've got a youngster called Antoine Semenyo who is genuinely exciting and looks to have everything. We've even turned down a fair old bid from Chelsea for the lad.
He looks a real talent in all honesty but soooo young (19) as was shown by a poor challenge against Leeds on his Championship debut.
We're hoping we've a real talent on our hands.

Any similar youngsters at yours that are on the cusp of the first team that you're really hopeful for?

West Brom have offered teenage striker Louie Barry the equivalent of a three-year deal on his 16th birthday in an attempt to stave off interest from Barcelona, Sky Sports News has learned.

Adam O'Reilly looks a promising box to box midfielder, local lad Jack Baxter has been given a pro deal too. Both got a mean shot on them. Hopefully get decent loan moves this year.

Ethan Walker came off the bench last season too, only 17, rapid but only a 2nd year scholar so won't see much of him yet.

Jimmy Corcoran in the youth team looks a top, young keeper.

Josh Earl has been around the first team for 2 seasons, still only 20, hoping he can have a loan spell in league one as he's still very naive.

We’ve got a 17 year old called Joe Gelhardt who is apparently one of the best players in the country at his age (aren’t they all). He plays up front for England with that Greenwood kid whose been on the bench for Man Utd. Came on against Birmingham last season and looked good. We signed him up to a professional contract because all the big north west clubs wanted him so I’d be disappointed if he doesn’t make it. Not had an academy player star for the first team since McManaman.

Anyone know what happened to the three Luton teenage brothers signed by Chelsea from us going back quite a few years now ?

Not sure about the other 2 but Jay was at Bristol City last season and seemed to do well.

Playing for England Under 21s at the moment, and seemingly not doing so well though!

I didn’t know who you were on about but if it is the Da Silva’s then one is at Brentford and ones at Chelsea that will probably sign here in the summer and is a very good young left back.

Don’t know who the other one is.

Yeah, it’s the Dasilvas.

Cole and Rio the other two, I think.

We've a few young uns showing promise, obviously lost our best to an agency war and he's playing in the Belgian 2nd tier at Leicesters sister club, George Hirst.

Conor Grant is the one I have high hopes for.

I think all three were signed by Chelsea for less than £50,000. Jay will go for £10m and hopefully a nice sell on for us.

We always have a long line of talent coming through the academy.

The latest two to break into the first team last season are George Lapslie and Albie Morgan.

Completely different types of midfielder but high hopes for both particularly Morgan who showed signs of going on to be a very good player and was instrumental in both our goals at Donny in the play-offs. Think the pressure and big game aspect of the second leg got to him as he went missing a bit but he’s only 19. Expect him to feature a fair bit as next season goes on and looking forward to see how he progresses.

10m? We’ve got a 2m pre agreed fee for him that we’ve triggered.

Well if that is the case that is an absolute steal and a bit of a kick in the balls for us. We may get £400k then.

Decent deal for us but not sure where you plucked 10m from originally, he ain’t ever worth that.

I’m sure that number was mentioned by someone, but when you’ve got our LB going for something like £8-12m the market is crazy.

If Justin’s worth that money then Da Silva should be worth similar in theory but is there any concrete to the £8m+ rumours? Seems to be dragging on a while.

It’s not July yet. I’ve a feeling there’s going to be a big ramp up next two weeks all round as teams start reporting back.

Gonna go absolutely mental from July onwards. Clubs always want to see/talk to their own players in pre season before they agree to sell or loan out. That then creates a chain reaction as clubs don’t sell until they have replacements lined up. We’ve not signed anyone yet, but by the first game I’ll be surprised if we haven’t signed at least 7-8 players.

Speaking of Semenyo... been told he's signed a new deal today. Massive news.

Of the players who progressed through our youth system recently and are currently in the first team Jacob Brown is the stand out, had a breakout season last season when we lost Brad Potts to Preston and was a more than adequate replacement. He's recently signed a new contract and I'm hoping he kicks on at this level and continues to impress. Also Jared Bird is a name that's brought up a lot but compared to Brown he's struggling to break into the first team.

We've also acquired a few players who from what I've seen of them so far could have a bright future. Jordan Williams and Callum Styles from Huddersfield and Bury respectively are both still only 19 and both have impressed in their runs in the first team.

One of the side effects of 2 promotions in as many years is that the younger players have more or less been left behind, with the obvious exception of Justin, it doesnt really feel like there are too many who are in any way close to the first team.

Arthur Read got, rather surprisingly I thought, offered a new deal at the end of the season so they must rate him to have done that, but he has only played tinpot trophy games really.

We had a good youth side a few seasons ago of which Justin was a part but they all seemed to drift off to youth academies higher up, one of the ones I liked Bakinson went to Bristol City and seemed to have a good loan at Newport last year, and the ones who have stayed haven't really done anything to impact the first team.

We have a couple on the verge of breaking through but that is mainly because we have no money to pay for players.

Ebere Eze is probably our most known player. Had a great start to last year but then was literally our everything and I think the pressure got to him or it might be down to burnout, but I hate that so I would go with pressure. Fans got on his back a bit and ended up out of the team. I think he'll come back better this year after his first full season of adult football.

Illias Chair. Another attacking player that looks like the real deal. He went to Stevenage and their fans are saying that he is the best player they have ever had. Obviously a lower league but there is genuine excitement around him. Got 6 goals and 6 assists in 16 matches (not sure on start/sub stats).

Bright Osayi-Samuel. Still young and barely featured last year but started getting more and more games towards the end of the season. Looks good going forward and looks like he'll be a good player at this level.

Paul Smyth. Hes about 3ft 6 so not going to score many headers as a forward. But he has a lot of pace and done okay whilst out on loan. Make or break season for him this year so I would expect to see a lot of him on the right wing.

That's about it for us. I don't think any other youngsters are knocking on the door.

Does he like to sit just behind the front two? :animatedf:

That Ilias Chair barely looked 5ft tall when he came on at Deepdale a while back.

See some of the goals he scored for Stevenage last season? I only watched the Quest show a few times but whenever I did he seemed to be scoring a pearler.
