Maybe not for all, wasn't a third card trialled in Italy or somewhere? Think that would be better, so for cynical yellow cards, eg yesterday Bannan taking Tomlin out with a slide tackle from behind knowing he's never getting the ball. Those sorts of yellow cards would deserve it more than an accidental/clumsy tackle leading to a yellow.

Things like Dissent would be better, let a player cool down. But every yellow card? No.

I like the idea in principle. As said above it will cut down on those cynical challenges and also those 'taking one for the team' type challenges to stop a potential breakaway by the opposition. And dissent is an offence it should definitely be used for.

Just out of interest, I assume this will also count for goalkeepers and they would have to be replaced by outfield players whilst in the bin?

Dissent would see a player in the bin every 10 mins in football

Yeah I can see it do well for dissent (in terms of changing player attitudes, atleast) and the more cynical 'tactical' fouls where the opponents had a clearly good opportunity to break. You can see the latter cause loadsa controversy though, it'll be down to the ref's discretion innit - and we have enough unnecessary drama around those wanks in the premier league imvho.

They would in the early days but it would help to change attitudes if players knew they would spend 10 mins on the sideline if they open their mouths. It was working with giving penalties for all pulling in the box in the first part of the season but unfortunately that seems to have drifted back to them being given now and again. It is important that anything like this is made to stick otherwise it is pointless

I'm all for it. A yellow card in itself is a pretty meaningless punishment so to put some weight behind it gets a yes from me.

I suppose the idea of the yellow card is that if you commit 2 mid range offences then you will be off but the problem is too many refs become reluctant to show that 2nd yellow card even though offences warrant it

In Gaelic football we have a black card for cynical challenges and abusive conduct to the referee, after which the offending player gets replaced for the rest of the game by a substitution. I'd love to see it in football, applying the rule to diving too. A sin bin would be better than the current rules, but not for every yellow card.

Never seen that enforced substitution in any sport but I like that idea as well. Not only will that affect the player but also the manager has he will be forced into quick thinking regarding a change that could affect the entire system they are playing

Actually, the rule should be implemented solely for this. I miss the days in which teams didn't have a goalkeeper on their bench and outfield players would have to take their place after an injury or sending off. It used to happen so much in Serie A! :D

New rule: no substitute keepers. Make it happen FIFA.

Absolutely all for it. I'm a fan of (ice) hockey and it works perfectly there, as well as rugby. I'd love to see players sat on the sidelines because they mouthed off at the ref.

One thing though, please don't call it a sin bin. Gross.

Yes with a blackboard and a Dunces Hat. He can write 'lines' such as 'I shall not dive' while he serves his sentence!

It's a great idea if implemented correctly. Like others have said it makes no sense to 'sin bin' a player for a soft yellow card offense but with a bad tackle or dissent, it would work well. I like the idea of the captain being the only player to speak to a referee as well, otherwise, the entire team would end up sin-binned for gobbing off at the ref.

I guess common sense would need to be used. I mean an accidental challenge or a minor offence should be overlooked. However a 'taking one for the team' challenge on the half way line when the opposition look to break, would be a good example of a sin bin offence. I also like the stop watch in rugby. No second guessing on amount of time being allowed. Just stop the clock when there is an interruption. Everyone knows exactly how much time is left. No need for injury time as the clock would have been stopped for the duration of injury during the game.
