Ok, even though Port Vale are not going to feature in this at all, I thought it would be nice for you successful teams to have somewhere to discuss how great you are and how you will not only gain promotion from League 1 but will also walk through the Championship and straight to the promised land.

So, it appears that Sheffield United and Scunthorpe have the top 2 wrapped up.
Despite some recent hiccups, we have all known for a long time that Sheff Utd are too big for L1 and now they are starting to prove that. Bramall Lane is proving to be a tough place for most to go to and there is no doubting that they will pick up enough points away from home to be potential L1 champions this season

Scunthorpe might have something to say about who finishes in top spot. Many fans have claimed that their bubble has burst in recent weeks as they have suffered a few draws and defeats but they remain 7 points clear of their nearest rivals.

Their nearest rivals would be Bolton who appeared to be the ones cruising to the L1 title until they decided to give their opponents an advantage by going on a 4 game winless run. Will they be able to turn things around and pressure the top 2?

Another ex PL team chasing the Championship dream is Bradford but they seem to love a draw and that is why they are not currently troubling the top 2. Will probably do enough to make the playoffs but business in January would suggest their owners and manager want to try and get out of this division the easy way.

Fleetwood are the form team of the division at the moment and are rightly well involved in the promotion race. They have seemingly forgotten what it is like to lose, so will be interesting to see how their players react to defeat when (if) it happens. I think most of their supporters will be surprised at the success they are enjoying this season but if they keep the current trend going then they might actually be the team to trouble the current top 2.

My personal gut feeling is that the current top 5 will finish as the current top 5 in some order. That leaves one playoff spot available and is currently occupied by Southend who are another form side but are another team who likes a draw and that could prove costly.

Could that leave the door open for Rochdale? Well they were well involved in the playoffs until they found some troublesome form and have not won in the last 3. Getting out of a winless run can be the most difficult thing in football and it could see Rochdale slip towards mid-table in coming weeks.

Inconsistent Peterborough are still in the chase for a playoff spot and they claimed a solid 3 points at Vale today. Could this be the start of some more consistent form or will they follow that trend of getting themselves into the mix only to throw a shitter in the following week?

Out of all of those chasing that last playoff spot, Millwall seem to be the ones hitting form at the right time. An 8 game unbeaten run in the league has brought them to within 2 points of 6th spot but will the mixed news over their ground and the FA cup run take their minds off the league?

Bristol Rovers, Walsall and Charlton all earn mentions here but I suspect all 3 will remain too inconsistent to actually mount a serious play off challenge. That said, there is usually that one team that comes from nowhere to nick 6th spot, will that be one of these?

Who's reaching for the clouds on that promotion plane?

(and that is my last involvement in this thread because my team is shit)

We've only lost twice in 20 league games and we're playing some really nice football at the moment. At the start of the season just staying up looked like it would be a tough task but I'd be disappointed if we didn't make the playoffs this year.

As mentioned, we draw too many (simply don't score enough) to worry the automatics, agreed the top two will see it out from here on in. We've been in the PO's all season and whilst we have the quality (starting 11 wise at least) to stay up there the amount of points we drop doesn't leave me with 100% confidence that we will, plus memories of McCall's first reign when we blew up around Easter time in L2 and missed out then.
On paper we've added 20 odd goals in January, although Alex Jones already might need an op, too early to know there. Depth wise we don't have a great deal to bring off the bench and a few key injuries especially in midfield would be a disaster.
Home form has been key, again too many draws this season but we've not lost a Saturday home game since September 2015, although the return of Parkinson with Bolton next would be the poetic first home defeat of the season.
Overall, top two? Definitely not. Play Off's? Should do.

We've just played Blades, Rochdale, Fleetwood and Scunny and taken 7 points we will be challenging for play offs and no team will be looking forward to playing us. I think we are strong enough to make play offs but injuries could kill us losing Cox would be curtains.

At the start of the season all the Southend fans on this board wanted Brown out. Further proof that football fans, while occasionally right, more often than not know absolutely fuck-all about football.

I expected us to finish in the top 6, when the season got underway. I still expect that. Whether we can make the top 2 is debatable, as inconsistency is starting to creep in. Of all the top 7 teams, we are the only one to have played more away than home games. Apart from Fleetwood, all the others have played at least 2 more home than away games. Everyone in the top 7 has a better home record than away. Yes, things can change, but we are doing well and have a strong record at home and if we can keep that up, we will be close.

We were absolutely dreadful though. There is no denying that from Christmas to October we were utterly shite and only looked like relegation fodder. A couple of good signings after the window closed saved us and him his job credit to him though he turned it around when I'd say 80% of fans thought he was done.

Nailed it.

Was saying this in the pub last night, we are only 6 points off the play-offs with two games in hand and a better goal difference than most of those other challengers above us but ultimately we don't win enough games.

We are extremely difficult to beat, only Bradford and Scunthorpe have lost fewer games than us which goes to show we draw far too many games and that's why we'll end up missing out.

That said, we are improving under Robinson, still have a few players to come back from injury and have got most of the 'harder' fixtures out the way. Every week we seem to be playing a form side but our next 8 games are all very winnable, we play some of the bottom four and also have the likes of Northampton and Walsall to play in that run of games. Most of our remaining games are against struggling sides and of the teams above us, we only have to visit Sheff United. Rochdale and Peterborough.

Sounds obvious and a lot of teams will be saying the same thing but if we start converting some of these draws into wins we'll be right in the mix. We were desperately unlucky yesterday after conceding in the 94th minute, that would have left us only 4 points from 6th place with the games in hand. As it stands. We are well in the conversation but as already alluded to, I think inconsistency will be or downfall in the end.

SUFC leapfrog SUFC to go back to the top of the league, after SUFC have a resounding win and SUFC beat SUFC to help SUFC.

Wonder what odds you'd get for all 3 SUFC's to be promoted?

This is quite a quiet thread. No-one wanting to curse their team by admitting they are well and truly involved in the promotion race?

Sheff Utd have all but confirmed their promotion (surely) with their late win today.
There are still plenty of teams vying for 2nd spot, particularly in light of Scunny's defeat today. Bolton's winless run comes to an end, Fleetwood maintain that unbeaten run and Millwall join the playoff places. Bradford draw again and this inability to convert draws to wins could cost them anything better than a playoff spot.

Are Rochdale feeling the pressure as their winless run stretches to 4 games and will Peterborough's inconsistency see them spend another season in L1? Bristol Rovers remain there or there abouts and it seems Oxford have quietly put a run of results together to creep to within 4 points of the playoffs.....could they be the team that comes from nowhere in the back end of the season to nick 6th spot?

We probably will make the play-offs. I am pessimistic about our chances because we have never looked cohesive enough this season to go toe-to-toe with an organised footballing outfit. I think all the current top six would beat us in a one-off high-stakes game on current form. I think it's testament to the quality of Morison, and to a lesser extent Gregory and Williams, that we are still in this race.

From an outsider looking in, I've got a bad feeling Scunthorpe might bottle it. Sheff Utd and that lot to go up automatically, Millwall to beat Fleetwood in the playoff final.

Bristol rovers away tommorrow then scunny and bolton in consecutive home games if we win those games I might start thinking we could go up

If you take 6 points from those 2 home games then it would certainly be Sheff Utd's title to throw away. It would also blow the race for 2nd place wide open

Delighted to be involved in possible promotion. We're looking good for the play offs which is a massive achievement for a small club like Fleetwood. Think we will bottle it in the play offs but a miracle might happen.

Rosler is doing really well but I imagine your budget is easily in the top half of this league, i'd expect you to be challenging for top six this year.

Blades were talking about here, we were 4 points clear with 3 games left 5 years ago and managed to fuck it up.

You're by far and away the best side in this division this season though.

Bolton and Scunthorpe aren't bad but they're not us or Wednesday 5 years ago, they won't both finish above you.

Unbeaten in 12, including ten league games. No goals conceded in five. Only five goals conceded in our last 13. Cooper is doing the business at the back. Maybe I spoke too soon.

I mean you never know for certain but communication is pretty good at Fleetwood and we where told our budget is mid table, maybe just above, but not top 6.

If we do get in the play off, and its by no means certain, we have done extremely well. We are lucky to have a club that is exceptionally well run top to bottom but Uwe Rosler has been the difference for us, no question about it.

Unless we capitulate and his stock drops Ive no doubt Rosler will already be on a lot of clubs radar for next season.

Great night for the blades. Gives us a nice 7 point cushion with 12 games to go and with the way were playing it's looking very good for us.

There's always one team that bottles a promotion charge and Scunthorpe seem to be doing just that.

Still fancy Millwall to sneak into 2nd.
