Just had a quick look at our remaining fixtures. At best I can see us picking up another 9 points. That's assuming we somehow remember how to score a goal.

So that would give us 67 points which funnily enough was our final points total last season (10th).

What Carlisle need, to kick start their spluttering campaign, is a fixture against that most grateful of Samaritans, Mansfield Town.

it's kind of amusing that there are quite a lot of teams supporters that don't yet realise just how shite Carlisle actually are. Cambridge fans didn't, but they do now. Luton fans will on Tuesday night and this time next week you Mansfield fans will.

It's back in our own hands again after the rout of Colchester yesterday gave us a four point cushion over the chasing pack.

But we've been here plenty of times before only to fuck it up. Grimsby at home on Tuesday is a game we should win on paper, but our home form has been less than stellar recently as we buckle under the pressure.

BTW, I have yet to see anyone on this forum claim that the league is tougher this year. Good to see this board only attracts the sensible and realistic type of fan. Oh ok ok, bar one or two

We have no injury problems, a well stocked squad, and have probably played the least number of games in the division due to our early cup exits so we're relatively fresh. There are really no excuses now and it does look like the team have finally come alive and have turned dominance into goals the last couple of games.

I'm unusually optimistic for Tuesday's home game vs Grimsby. I have a feeling that we've seen the tide turn and we can now kick on. Call me mad if you like.

Not a chance. The Doncaster side that'll likely end up as champions are not a patch on the Northampton side that stormed the division last season. Plymouth's squad was probably better last season too, yet they find themselves comfortably in second place.

We've had some really shit results this season and yet find ourselves in third place. It's not a good quality league at all.

Getting promoted if it is a weaker league is a bit of a double-edged sword, easier to get promoted technically although harder to compete next year in the league above.

I'm of the impression that the league is overall more equal but I wouldn't be inclined to make a prediction of the result between Doncaster/us this season and Northampton last season. What I would say is that loads of posters last season were also commenting what a poor standard the league was, and although some teams have been dismantled/managers have left etc, they've on the whole competed very well in league 1.

Maybe I'm bi-polar, Don. Maybe I just enjoy the cycle of having my hopes raised, only for them to be crushed once more under the wheels of fate.

I disagree on one point. Our first eleven was stronger last year, but our squad thid year is much stronger, and that is the main difference and why we are second. Also, this year referee's have realised that it is permissable to give us penalities, and that has made a huge difference in terms of points gained.

Personally not sure the league is stronger or weaker, but it is different in that there are more teams at a similar level.

It's hard to say because things turn around in football but the way it's going right now it looks as if we will do nothing else but lose.

All you are highlighting is that those at the top were much stronger this season virtually every team is as good as each other making it a much stronger league.

Doncaster got beat off 2017 Carlisle. So them being top just proves how weaker it is compared to last season.

Carlisle still have to play us, and we are fantastic at turning teams round from having shit form to world beaters. Unfortunately for them, the game is late in the season so they may be out of the running for autos by then. Still, it will guarantee them a play-off spot and give them good form going into them.

Personally think Donny, Plymouth, Luton and Carlisle will go up.

We've taken our foot off the gas, we've got a bit cocky I think.
We are the best team in the league but there has been a number of games we should of won/put to bed but didn't show the right amount of respect.
I can't see us not winning the league if I'm 100% honest, just hope we finish it properly.

Our game on Saturday could be a classic, you've scored none in your last 3 while we've scored none in the last 4. I'd say it's got 0-0 written all over it, but that won't happen.

It's a shame to see Carlisle seemingly collapsing at the moment. It was a fantastic unbeaten run earlier in the season but it looks from the outside like a lack of backing from the boardroom has genuinely scuppered their chances. Not an unusual situation but sad to see all the same.

I'd be surprised to see them hang on for the play-offs - all form measurements have them pretty low down now.
