Having a mare with Farman over Davies.

The rest I could go with, a few close ones such as Ridehalgh, McNulty. And obviously Tollitt would have got in had Virgo watched some YouTube videos.

Good team not sure about Reynolds or deacon though... purely based upon performances against us

Deacon's been one of the most impressive players in this division for a while - really rate him.
Can't really argue with that team - Virgo's seen more of each team than I ever would. Only player there that I don't think would improve our XI would be Vaughan.

Agree with you about Davies, thought he was excellent in both games this week. Given the occasion and the timing, his save from Rendell was one of the saves of the season!

Reynolds played in every game for us, was our captain and we ended up with the best defence in the league so I think his selection is fully justified!

Deacon did nothing against us ... just to clarify who I would replace those two with.

Tollitt... if it wasn't for his diving he would be the best player in this division

Mccombe (macc) ... played them 4 times this season and didn't give our strikers a kick in 3 of those games

Your right shots fan stats don't lie however I can only go on what I saw and your defence was poor first half at our place in the league game ( as was ours ) and I think he got turned by Stockton resulting in a goal in the playoffs

Conversely, McCombe was terrible against us. Turning circle of an oil tanker.

McCombe is fucking awful, i'd probably say it was more down to Tranmere's tactics that he looked good against you!!

Even ignoring Scott Davies can think of 2 or 3 keepers in this League who are better than Farman.

Surprised Lee Vaughan made the final cut, a token Tranmere player? Did well at wing-back until Southport broke his leg but would have thought there were others more deserving.

Virgo has seen more of the other teams than me but........ Davies and Ihiekwe should be in the eleven and a number of strikers are better than Cheek, including Cook and Stockton.

Four players from the title winning side and only one from the team that finished four points behind them seems unbalanced to me.

Tollitt would have been in ahead of Deacon if he had played more than a handful of games before getting injured.

To be fair as I said before, I wouldn't have Farman in as the best keeper either. Would have a shout for Arnold as one of the most influential wingers and Waterfall has been as good as Raggett for me.

Cheek was fourth top goalscorer in a team that got relegated, implying limited service. That probably justifies his inclusion.

Perhaps, but I think other strikers like Doidge (not just our own) are better players.

We would all pack our teams with our own players because we one see other sides once or twice so in no way can make an informed decision. Having seen the paper and the rationale behind his choices, I honestly can find nothing to argue with really. Cheek is the odd one, but having seen him a couple of weeks ago he was the shining diamond in the turd that was Braintree. Really hope Waddock has a go at signing him, he really is the sort of player we were missing this term.

Good side difficult to argue with it. Only tweak would be Lee Vaughan, headless chicken springs to mind

Fair point slaphead, about picking our own players, I would certainly have gone for Doidge. He wasn't even first choice striker at the start of the season and had to compete with Tubbs, Murphy and someone else whose name escapes me at the moment...it was well into the season before he made the centre forward position his own.

I must be missing something with Deacon because a) I thought he was a striker and b) he just seems to occasionally pop up with a worldie goal. He's hardly ever mentioned.

I probably wouldn't have had Farman in there, but certainly Arnold. 14 goals from the wing is decent going.

Raggett, Habergham and Woodyard are self explanatory. They were always shoe-ins.

Yep would definitely agree with Doidge, does everything well, scores goals and has a superb attitude.

The other FGR players I would say are good and consistent enough to be considered in this years team are Sam Russell and Dale Bennett. Both absolute stalwarts at the club and guaranteed to be top committed performers week in week out.

This is the Conference Team of the Year as chosen by the NL managers.

Hopefully the Conference managers will think the same about our players next season and we'll sneak under the radar again ;)

It was quite a surprise that both Virgo and the NL managers had Farman as best keeper and Vaughan as best right-back. Don't think I'd have gone with McNulty in central defence either.
