I might not like the selection much but let's not get all "Labour Party"about the genre. Post-Grunge and Godfather-Grunge deserve an airing.

I'm not actually into grunge but Ragged Glory is one of my fave albums and Pearl Jam get a regular airing, usually in the car.

Quite right and we are a "broad Kirk " in this part of the forum. However, I believe Vanni may be having a little fun with me in retaliation for some of my more broad minded Jazz selections. If I'm incorrect then I will apologise profusely;)
Despite these suspicions and perhaps unwarranted innuendo any talk of " deselecting " or "purges" is pure rumour. (At this time)

Vanni is taking the piss:lol:

Love loads of different music but Pearl Jam were the first real band I loved right from the start...and still do seen them numerous times. Terrible clothes though.:bg: Lost interest when Britpop came a long but still love some of it. Massive Neil young fan too. Loads of Pearl Jam and Nirvana ones so I'll leave them.

Anyway.

Oops, for some reason I thought this was the Cringe Thread. My bad.

I'll see those 4 and raise you a Mother Earth (and possibly most of Mirror Ball - why do they let drummers control the mix?) :conf: :ffs:

Sadly, I don't have Mirrorball so I can't really make up my mind on the mixing, however i heard some tracks on YT (granted, not the best for checking out such technical details) and it looks to me NY was trying to capture a 'certain sound'. Still, you got me thinking about drummers mixing albums, and I immediately thought of one of my fav bands, These Arms are Snakes, and around half of their recorded output. Their drummer handled all the mixing and production side on these tracks, and frankly I think he's deaf, as the amount of clipping and distortion is incredible. He still mixes and produces stuff for other artists, which is very puzzling afaic.

My comment was facetious. It's just that every time I play it (and I keep returning) I wish I could get the drums out of the way and back in the mix where they belong.

I think it was an indulgence for NY (or as he put it, "a challenge") because he liked what Pearl Jam, and especially Jack Irons, were doing. He went to Seattle and worked with Pearl Jam and their producer in their studio over just 4 days studio time. Apparently he said, "Recording Mirror Ball was like audio vérité, just a snapshot of what's happening. Sometimes I didn't know who was playing. I was just conscious of this big smouldering mass of sound."

He also called Jack Irons' drumming "unbelievable" and said that he "played his ass off on every take at every session," and, "I can't say enough good things about him." I guess he wanted to hear the drums.

If it wasn't for the "lead drums," I'd really like this track:

Abers, I can post noise rock bands in here right? You've posted a Jesus Lizard (one very fine band indeed) tune so I think you're fine with this :pond:
And speaking of Noise Rock, this is one big misnomer in my book as by noise I imagine something else entirely.

Scratch Acid, with David Yow and David Sims, who then went on to form The Jesus Lizard. They were also a big influence on Nirvana and esp. young K.Cobain -

and back to proper Grunge -

Bush. Hmmm, Truth be told, I never saw them as simply a Grunge band and I never got all the hate they got. Also, the 'just a Nirvana rip off band' tag they got lumbered with was very unfair IMO. All in all, I reckon they were a very underrated* band back then (that is, underrated with the music press/critics/reviewers)

I've never liked Bush( quelle surprise). I just think of them in diaspora of bands that suck a bit but not enough to care about. I like gav's wife a great deal though.
On "noise" rock. Go for it man..

Also a massive shout out to the Road Rash soundtrack featuring Hammerbox, Swervedriver, Paw, Soundgarden and Monster Magnet which opened a whole world to me as a kid.
