Compared to the first film which i enjoyed this was fucking awful, director James Wan should give up now if this is ther best he can come up with. 4/10.

The Hitch-Hiker (1953)

Two travelling fishermen pick up a hitch-hiker who turns out to be a wanted killer who has been slowly but surely inching his way across America and down to Mexico, leaving a trail of bodies in his wake.

Excellent film, very short (70 minutes) but completely packed from top to bottom with suspense and style. William Talman was brilliant as the lazy-eyed killer.

Hey, this is the guy from the 50's series Perry Mason starring Raymond Burr :D. He played the Distric Attorney Hamilton Burger and lost nearly every time against PM. Interesting. Have to check the imdb now to find out if this movie was shown in Germany (then it would have a german title too)...stay tuned ;)

edit: No German title but I found out that it was directed by the famous actress Ida Lupino and that it was the only film noir of the 50's that was directed by a woman...now I am even more interested in it. Looking for it.

Anyone got a decent streaming site for classic films - tried to get the original Father Of The Bride the other night but it was down.

Free Fire.
Possibly the most boring film that's ever been made, I gave it 30 minutes and switched off

The Night of the Hunter (1955)

Southern preacher (Robert Mitchum) shares a cell with a prisoner on death row who reveals that, prior to his arrest, he hid $10,000 in cash. After his release he tracks down the family and soon finds out that only the now dead man's children know the whereabouts of the money. He worms his way into the family and community and sets about getting his hands on the $10,000.

I enjoyed it, the plot drew me in and Mitchum was brilliant but the camera work was the most interesting part of the film. Particularly the incongruous expressionist shots of lakeside shacks and tiny, triangular-roofed bedrooms.

Directed by one of the great actors as well in Charles Laughton. Mitchum is terrific in it and even better in the original Cape Fear if you've seen that.

I've not seen that one yet but Mitchum has been great in all of the films I've seen him in so far so it's definitely on the watchlist.

You won't be disappointed mate. Imo it's an even better film than the Scorsese one.

The Petrified Forest (1936)

The plot revolves around a travelling writer, a waitress, a gangster and a wealthy businessman whose paths cross at a diner in the Arizona desert. Bette Davis, Leslie Howard and Humphrey Bogart.

Excellent film, it was obvious that it was an adaptation from a stage play but that kind of worked in its favour in terms of creating a claustrophobic atmosphere and letting the story shine.

The Man with the Golden Arm (1955)

Freshly-clean heroin addict (Sinatra) is released from prison back into the same neighbourhood and circle of friends he left. He has big plans to drum in Jazz bands and get his life back on track but he faces temptation at every corner.

Gutting portrayal of addiction and crushed hope.

Decent revenge film starring Keanu Reeves and Willem Dafoe with plenty of the bad guys getting shot in the head  He takes revenge on a Russian gangsters son who nicked his classic car and killed his dog.

I saw Wonder Woman last night... and holy hell, it's a good DC movie! Only took them 4 tries...

But it was great mainly because it had actual focus. No setting up for future films or trying to juggle too many characters (or, worst of all, being directed by Zack Snyder), it just wanted to tell its own self contained story about a single character and did it well. More of this sort of thing please, DC.

Looks an interesting film, but I can't stand Sinatra so won't watch. Rules out The Manchurian Candidate too for the same reason. Shame.

He was great in this, aside from some comically poor attempts at drumming.

The Big Heat (1953)

Maverick police officer investigates a politically powerful crime syndicate with massive personal repercussions.

Not bad, but not quite the classic I was expecting either.

In The Mood For Love - (2000)

Well what can I say watched this last night & I loved it. The 1960's setting was so eloquenty captured the suits the dresses everything was perfect the slow motion shots. Its a film about love, betryal, loss, missed opertunities, loneliness and the passage of time. it almost has a dream like beauty to it the film is beautiful. the recurring, mournful cello refrain which follows the couple around the rainy streets yumejis theme fits so well and adds to the entire experience 10/10

Very good film starring Mark Wahlberg,Kevin Bacon and a thinner looking John Goodman about the bombing and aftermath of the Boston Marathon in 2013. I obviously know what happened on the day but didn't know much about how they caught the murdering ****s so i really enjoyed this film. 8.5/10.

Touch of Evil (1958)

Orson Welles, Charlton Heston and Janet Leigh in a border town noir about police corruption and criminal conspiracy.

Another classic that I enjoyed without quite seeing seeing the quality its status promised.

Double Indemnity (1944)

An insurance salesman is convinced to frame the murder of a client as an accident so that he and the would-be dead man's widow receive a sizeable payout and live happily ever after. The saleman's fraud-investigating colleague is the very best in the business, though, and is assigned to reveal the truth in the case.

I loved this one and was hooked into the story until the very end. Edward G. Robinson stole the show from the two leads, though.

Babs was always great in these roles but in that particular film I was never convinced by Fred MacMurray. Edward G though, what a guy. :D

Very good film based on a true story. An American ship with 1,300 men on board is sunk by a Japanese sub and survivors are hunted by a group of around 50 sharks. When i saw Nicolas Cage was in it i didn't expect much but his acting for once was superb especially in the emotional scenes at the end. 8/10.

Quite easily the best film I've seen this year.

Angels with Dirty Faces (1938)

A priest tries to stop a recently-released gangster from exerting his influence on a gang of kids as well as the local police force.

Classic Cagney and the least intimidating street gang you've ever seen.
