I'm on SALTIRE 's whisky train. Me student gave me this today for Christmas. Hope it's good but not sure I trust his judgement tbh. He's only about 10.

Never had a Macallan tbh, but they are one of the premium names in whisky and always have been a sign of quality. A wee bit overpriced for what they are these days apparently, and other distilleries do better stuff; but I'm sure you won't be disappointed if you just want to have half an hour chilling out and enjoying the dram. Slainte!

As we're on the subject of alcohol, do we have any Port drinkers on here?

Definitely want to get into port and other spirits and fine wines down the line. A lot of whiskies are aged in sherry or bourbon barrels, and others these days are getting aged in wine, port, madeira, rum, solera and other alcoholic delights; and I'd like to try a selection of these so it can add to my knowledge and note-taking going forward as I gain more experience.

May look at a nice wee port for christmas day, though I have a new whisky I opened the other night thats basically a liquid christmas cake as it is, so that may do the job anyway! :D

My nightly tipple is either Taylor's or Brown Brothers Tawny.
I usually have just the standard Taylor's Tawny, which is available in most Supermarkets for about £20 but I want to go above that price and try and give some different ports a go.

Problem is, the more expensive ones don't usually come in small taster bottles like your Taylor's do. I've had the taster sets of Taylor's etc and don't like the white or lighter ports. The taste of those don't seem as flavoursome.

I'm kind of ashamed to admit it but i have developed a liking for port.
No need to be ashamed - good stuff!

Not sure if this is available where you are but Penfold's reserve club tawny is as smooth as silk.

Now than my ban is over I would like to reveal that the scotch pies are bloody lovely. I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do with myself when they run out. Order more, probably.

Banned? What for?

Repeatedly calling the matched betting sponsor account/shill thing a c***.

Got a month in the hole for that little stunt.

Basically, you take some questionable meat, mix it with lard, and stick some pastry around it. Tada! A scotch pie.

Vile things.

When he says questionable meat Pagnell means mutton and when he says vile he means delicious.

There probably is lard in it.
