Newcastle will pay for their massive wage bill next year with all the money they haven't spent for the last 5.

I guess you could say they're paying for not spending any money, but at least they can afford it.

Their owner has £3.2 Billion and make a profit each year, im sure they will be fine financially. its what they do on the pitch that will matter - I think they will piss the Championship to be honest.

ah well, at least you can always count on 5 live to cheer you up. "top 10 next season then a title challenge the year after" - sunderland fan.

Because 606 is the greats signal of fans, assuming he wasnt being sarcastic about the title thing.

Also didn't you lot set top 8 as the goal for the season and have your new summer signings talking about the Champions League?!?

I know it's been said but you do have to wonder what if Newcastle had got rid of McClaren just 2 weeks earlier. Their squad is far far too strong to have finished bottom 3.

It will be interesting to see is Sunderland stay on their path of signing 30+ year olds, being shit and sacking their manager. Big Sam is shrewd enough to get them into mid-table next year surely

Rafa got them 2 points from Villa, Norwich and Sunderland. It wasn't like he was leading them straight to safety... When McClaren was sacked they were ahead of us in the table. Obviously Rafa is a much better manager but I do dispute this narrative that Rafa would have guaranteed them safety had he come in earlier.

Also regarding our signings. Under Big Sam we signed three players permanently in January; a 25 year old Jan Kirchoff, a 25 year old Whabi Khazri and a 27 year old Lamine Kone. So far so good I suppose! We have to aim for mid-table, although that is a big ask in the Premier League, its a tough league and nobody has a 'right' to win any game.

Sunderland make the great espace for the 10000000000th time in a row. It's generally getting boring, I passionately want them to go down.

It's understandable some people hate us and want us down. There's been times over the last few seasons I've wanted us down just to put us out of our misery. Being a Sunderland fan is never dull though.

New season, new contenders. Reckon Palace and Stoke will get sucked in this season.

No chance for Stoke. Think Palace could struggle though. We're doomed also.

I put them there because they haven't done anything and don't look at all motivated (of course this is based on one game so make of that you will).
Palace have just sold Bolasie to Everton so they're even less of a threat going forward.
Not sure why you would be doomed. You look fine to me.

Is Pardew going to coach Townsend at all, or just let him shoot from 35 yards every time he gets in 'range'? Could be significant in how well they do, but I suppose until they have a striker, that might just be their best option.

We're in danger, especially if these Austin + Fonte rumours come true.

For the first time in a while I'm confident we won't be in a major relegation battle. If we can keep Kone and Defoe stays fit we should be fine.

Palace are definitely in danger if they don't add to their forward line, Hull are obvious candidates and favorites to finish rock bottom at the minute. It's hard to say who else I reckon Swansea may struggle this season along with Burnley.

Well our fixtures basically go from being favourite one week to underdog the next until about November. If things go as expected in those games we won't have a great points tally, and as we've already lost to the side we'd be the biggest favourites against it could be a pretty disastrous start.
Beat Arsenal on Saturday though and nobody will be putting us in the relegation mix. Lose and we'll be written off 2 games in.

What would be considered a success by Leicester fans this year?

Think Leicester can get top 4, champions if they get knocked out of Europe early.

Get through the group in the CL (as we're seeded) and top 6. A lot of people would be happy with top 10, but I'd like top 6 as the pundits seem to have decided we're not capable of that. Or survival and a domestic cup would be pretty bloody good!

Not a good day. Nothing that hard work on the training ground won't sort out though. I'm more worried about the FA's agenda against Mark Hughes and Stoke City FC as a club.

Far too early in my opinion to be talking about who will go down, but its the usual suspects so far. Stoke are struggling but playing Spurs and City within the first month and half wasn't every going to be helpful.

Quite a relegation battle there, and that's providing Wham, Stoke and Southampton sort things out.

Well no, but they didn't have to concede four goals on three separate occasions, including to Crystal Palace, and fail to beat Middlesbrough. Not getting a better backup 'keeper than Shay Given, 68, was a terrible idea.
