I've recently given up after twenty three years and have taken up vaping instead. I quite like it despite previously mercilessly ripping the piss out of the ludicrous people who vape. I was wrong and I'm truly sorry.
Anyone else given up? Do you still crave the wonderful feeling of a lovely ciggie or are you fucking fine?
Smokers, are you still loving your lovely cigarettes or do you yearn to be smoke free?
All talk about stuff like that please.

These are the best cigs. Got to be imported though, the ones we get here are packaged blue and they aren't the same.

I used to smoke thirty a day. Gave up when me and the girlfriend were trying for children and moved onto vaping. That only lasted a month because the one I bought was poorly made and they expected me to buy a new part for it a month after I'd purchased it. Not smoked anything since then which is coming up to three years soon.

Good luck with staying off them, Aber.

Do you still fancy one? I do. I was out last night and was just watching my friend smoking and thought fucking hell id happily beat him for a drag on his lambert. I didn't though.

I don't. My girlfriend quit at the same time as me and she still says that she fancies a cigarette when she gets particularly stressed. I think that's because I tried to have "just one" a couple of times soon after my vape broke and going from the flavoured liquids back to the taste of a cigarette made me feel a little sick so the main thing I think of when I think of smoking is that. My girlfriend didn't vape so she enjoyed the last cigarette she smoked and has more positive memories as a result.

That's my theory anyway!

I don't think I could have " just one". I'd be straight back on them. I'm going to stick to it though. Feel better sorta already.

I smoke Fridays and Saturdays. I got it under control but I can very hardly see myself at any time in the future having a pint without a fag.

I quit the cigs 5 years ago (40 a day) when I turned 70 after puffing away since I was 14, missed them for a couple of months but I've never had the urge to go back smoking, I've been banking whatever the cost is of a packet of 40 X 7 every week ever since and so far me and the wife have had 2 wonderful holidays back in England to see the family, do I still fancy a smoke?.....not anymore

I was about a 15-20 a day guy before (Lambert and Butler scrub), but when me and the girlfriend started trying I turned to vaping. I love it, but I do find it more addictive than smoking tbh and I'm only on 3mg nic. I have one of these Smok Alien 220w mods with the TFV8 baby beast tank, and it's a great set up. The only issue with it is that it's impossible to take small toots, every time you pull on it a massive cloud spreads everywhere, so if I use it in the house the room becomes foggy pretty quick and this time of year it's pretty cold to be going outside!

Did you go cold turkey claret? Or was it vape/patches etc?

I've just got a basic thing. Haven't really got into the different types yet. Just asked for the closest thing to a ciggie tbh.

I mentioned to the doc that I was going to quit and she gave me a couple of boxes of patches and some gum, the patches gave me a rash wherever I stuck one and the gum was vile so I chucked both substitutes and went CT.

Is it one of those pen things? they're a bit shit, and break really easy unfortunately, especially if you carry it in your pocket. They tend to snap in the middle. The eleaf icare kit is actually pretty good though for beginners/those just wanting to replace fags without fully delving into the vaping thing - http://www.vapeclub.co.uk/vape-club-electronic-cigarette-starter-kits/eleaf-icare-mini.html

Been vaping for about 3 years now & gradually cut down my ciggie intake. Finally ran out of ciggies (used to buy them in Belgium once a year) in May this year so that's 6 months fag free. I use a largish pen type and it's pretty good for what I require. I don't fancy the box type ones cos I feel they're just for effect rather than satisaction but each to their own. Could I still go a ciggie ? At certain times...first thing in the morning with a coffee, after brekkers, after dinner but I won't because I couldn't keep to that. Have no intention of stopping vaping though.

I gave up around a 20 a day habit 11 years ago this Christmas, the missus found out she was pregnant and guilt tripped me into giving up too. I don't miss the paranoia I used to get after a heavy weekend on the smokes but I do still enjoy a passive.

I 'gave up' about 6 months ago (I say 'gave up' as I'll still have a few when I go out drinking occasionally - but no more than once a fortnight). I was never a particularly heavy smoker anyway. By the time I quit I was down to about 8-10 a day anyway.

For anyone trying to quit I couldn't recommend vaping enough. I never consciously decided to quit but my sister got me a vape for my birthday, the next day I tried it out, quite enjoyed it and before I knew it I hadn't smoked for months. Without the vaping as a replacement I don't think I would have managed it. I don't really miss regular smoking at all.

Still smoke, roll ups about twenty a day. Still enjoy it too even though my otherwise perfectly good teeth are falling out because it fucks your gums. Ought to give up but not motivated, even madder I did give up for ten years in my mid-twenties because I was playing regular five-a-side and a bit of other sport. never imagined I'd start again but did while staying with a mate who smoked.

I've never been a smoker, so I'm interested in the psychology behind it - what made you guys want to start smoking in the first place?

I stopped earlier this year after 40 years. I didn't 'want' to start smoking. Started one Christmas/New Year when the bunch of lads I went about with had a lot of nights out/parties to go to. My best mate at the time was a smoker and he pestered the life out of me to have a fag when we were drunk & eventually I gave in supposedly to shut him up....the rest is history.
