Absolutely desperate for a striker though, any idea what this kid from Boro is like?
Pete O'Rourke reckons you're after Hogan at Villa.

Johnson was one of Monk's weird signings I think, not sure he's up to much at this level or where he'd fit your 3-5-2 but we'll see, probably would've been better off keeping Holmes wouldn't you?

Can't see us letting Hogan go. Not unless we are bringing another striker in on loan. He has a strike rate of 1/5 for us, which is not value for money. My only problem letting him go is that we are lightweight enough upfront at the minute. Desperate for a couple of defenders and a decent striker. Thought we had the answer with kodjia, but injuries have killed him off.

Why did clubs agree to close the window early when they're still arranging loans with a view to a permanent deal? So pointless.

PL pushed it through didn't they

Still seemed to have plenty of support from the FL but suppose chairmen were just trying not to upset their Premier League overlords. I don't get the logic at all when clubs could still lose their best players to Barca and Real Madrid and not replace them.

I don't see the point in transfer deadlines in general to be honest, if you need players, you should be able to go out and sign them whenever. It's all fucking Sky, pricks.

Agree with the last bit, signing players up to the 3rd Thursday in March never seemed to hurt.

When the top clubs can stockpile the best of the best and rape lower league clubs of their best youngsters then loans should not be restricted.

FFP is all well and good too until you forget that half the championship has an unfair advantage with parachute payments.

Transfer Window has nothing to do with Sky, they’d be much happier if they had business to report year round. It’s the clubs who prefer it this way

40k a week apparently, I wouldn't pay that for him he's always crocked
Yeah, can’t see anyone buying Hogan unless it’s a PL team, no one else can afford him.

1 in 5 isn’t so bad given most of his appearances are as a sub right? You also don’t really play the way you’d need to to get the best out of a striker with his skill set.

Woods to Swansea doing the rounds again, but they still won’t meet the asking price (despite previously agreeing to meet it a couple of weeks ago), and are now trying to make comments about not “overpaying” for players.

As far as Brentford are concerned the deal is dead, Swansea need to shut up and move on.

It’s a useful marketing tool, but the numbers behind it don’t even compare, they’ll make low single digit millions out of that at most, probably a lot less, no way the PL introduces and moves deadlines around for that kind of money.

People really overestimate the power Sky have, the PL hold all the cards, and set the packages which get created. If Sky didn’t have the PL it would be just the same.

Yes it did - teams would be competing for the title/promotion and would have their star players snatched away.

Provided something else took their place or else the whole thing would implode.

BT have shown there’s willing competition. They might not get quite as much money but they were doing fine with half the amount they are making from the rights now just a couple of years ago.

Trust me - I work for Sky, and most of the decisions aren’t made by us. Certain clubs can definitely feel aggrieved to be put on TV more than others, that decision is Sky’s, but we have very little power over anything else.

And teams facing relegation could strengthen so I would argue it worked better. How many top clubs or promotion chasers lost top players?

Both are fucked long term. The moment the PL launch their own streaming service they die. Stick that shit on chatter.

I wonder if / when the PL will do that. The UK market isn’t like the US one. People want to get one service and have everything, and you’d have to pay a lot to only get PL - without other sports to fill it out you’d get a lot fewer subscribers and a lot less money.

A PL streaming app would be one service. The vast majority don't care about other sports enough to pay for them. People nowadays want a catalogue of content if not watching live sports too - TV as we've known it will die within 10-15 years. Specific apps are the future. People don't want to pay for 100's of useless channels just so they can watch 90 minutes of football once a week and because of this the PL would achieve more viewers through a subscription app than it does currently. Tbh the likes of Sky & BT would probably pay huge just to have the any app on their platforms because they know how much of a driver PL football is.

Think the more pressing issue is when the “big five” get fed up of sharing the tv bounty with everyone else and piss off to their European Super League.

If a dedicated, in house, streaming app, would generate as much money for them as they get through Sky, the PL would have done it long ago.

It may do one day, but there are a lot more issues with it than you realise. We are a lot further off than you’d think.

Anyway, what you’re talking about is effectively what NOW TV are starting to do, it just costs a lot if you want to subscribe to them constantly.

Much more likely that someone like DAZN comes along and does well enough to snap up some PL rights, but they won’t ever have enough money to get the majority.
