Brown was excellent for Brizzle Wovers a couple of seasons back.

Heard today if Allen stays we'll be bringing in Leon Legge, the pair worked together at Gillingham and maybe Brentford

Our manager has hinted we're trying to sign Alfie Pavey from Dartford.

He is on our radar as well, but I've heard nothing from my source who usually gives me the gossip. Last I heard he was near the top of our target list, no idea if we're going to go in for him though.

He's done very well at Dartford, Player of the year in the National League South and 22 goals all from open play.

Certainly worth a punt at 23.

My sources tell me an unnamed club is after James Alabi.. the bidding has commenced at Tranmere paying that club £5k to take him.

What's the verdict on him? All I know is he's a winger. Unless by some miracle we can keep Kightly fit for more than 3 games in a row he may well see some significant game time next season.

We are very allegedly in for Scunny striker Jonny Margetts.

He got 5 in 7 for Lincoln on loan about 10 years ago.

Margetts was at Tranmere in our first season down here. Brabin signed him after a prolific spell as triallist, but didn’t give him much game-time.

He's got a good goal scoring record at this level and the one below through numerous loans but has never played a full season or made his mark at FL level. Stark reminder of what's a realistic target nowadays. Ouch.

I thought Margetts was late 20's, but he's only 24!

He's a weird one. A good finisher, as shown in his goals to games ratio where he goes, albeit generally as National League North level, but that's really it. He's a hard worker and got a good attitude but he doesn't have any blistering or real pace, not strong or physical enough, not particularly tall, no real football brain and not great movement.

I've not painted him in a particularly good light there but he's not as bad as I've made him sound, just doesn't have any stand-out attributes from open play. He's either average or below average at most things. You could sign far, far worse players.

He got 5 in 7 for us, but 4 of those were against Southport who ended up being relegated.

Scunthorpe rejected the chance to take him on trial a couple of summers ago so we took him, signed him permanently, and by the end of August we sold him to Scunthorpe, allegedly in a deal worth £100k, with £50k up front. He's made two appearances since and spent most of the time injured with a serious knee injury.

He needs to settle down somewhere and get a decent run of games under his belt. I don't think he's managed double figures in appearances has he? Always seems to jump from one loan spell to another.

Rumour is that Sam Wedgbury is leaving as he wants to be closer to his home in Sheffield. A blow if true, especially if he ends up at Chesterfield.

I've already posted about him on the L1 rumours thread but he's tall, strong and quick and has a sweet left foot but no right foot.

For me he's not ready for L1 yet but he certainly has the potential to play at that level. With our two best wingers refusing to sign new contracts I'm surprised you've gone for him rather than Harry Pritchard though.

Sam Wedgbury who recently left Wrexham is being linked with a move here by a local journo...

Apparently the reason he left Wrexham was because the commute from sheffield was becoming too much?

Thoughts on him Wrexham fans?

He spent a few years at Macc. Not the most technically gifted footballer but a proper work-horse. Think the Non-League Scott Parker.

Really nice bloke too.

A work-horse would be a positive start... can't think of many of them we've had over the past 2 seasons!!

Is he a defensive midfielder then or box to box type?

Our manager has come out and said that we’re gonna have to be patient with signings as the players we want others will want (no shit) and that as we have, according to him, a bottom half of the league budget we will end up with cast offs from the previous division just like last season.

He'll always put in a shed load of effort and is as good as anyone in this league at protecting the back line. Don't expect him to pass forward or score though.

Heard anything about John Welsh ending up at your place?

Personally think he can still do a good job in League One, would be a huge coup at this level.

What makes you think him and the owner are lying chief? Give me one reason
Players and clubs always want to be compensated more from clubs that appear to be loaded. By telling everyone that you don't have the money to compete with the 'giants' of Wrexham, Orient & Salford, you're selling yourself short, meaning you won't get as many cheeky monkeys asking for an extra £5k on the transfer fee, or £200 on their wage. It's a smart move.

You don't keep a player like Danny Rowe on with a bottom half budget.

Article 9,236 of the hobby club doctrine states that:

As a hallowed member of the hobby club brethren, one should purposely spread misinformation to the masses pertaining to bankrolling and financial doping. The pretence of being a small hard working club run on a shoestring must be upheld at all times in the face of allegations to the contrary.

Bottom half budget my arse.

Yeah I heard that a few months ago. Not sure how true it is. Also heard a rumour of Alex Kenyon from morecambe
