After a big away win last night we should be going into this one full of confidence. Amazing how Cov fans hated Marc-Antoine Fortune so much last year but for us he really been quality. We've got Ranger and Robinson fighting to start but there's no way MAF can be dropped. Will Atkinson is back for this but McGlashan is playing well so he might not come back straight into the team. Ferdinand injured his calf last Sat and missed last night not sure he will be fit.

Smith
Demetriou Innis Thompson Coker
Timlin Leonard Wordsworth McGlashan
MAF Cox

3-1 Southend and 1500 odd Shrimpers there.

Pick a number between 0 and 2, that'll be the number of goals we will score.
Pick a number between 2 and 7, that'll be the number of goals you will score.

Enjoy the three points.

I'm not sure we have any defenders! Oshilaja and Garmston went off injured last night, and Konchesky has vanished (though I expect he may make an appearance saturday).

Southend are in good form which is a far cry from the start of the season when we bulldozed them twice in a week. Still, looking at the line up listed above doesn't fill me with a huge amount of fear, which probably says more for Phil Brown building a side rather than individuals (Justin Edinburgh take note). Southend's chief tormentor JET has buggered back to QPR, and won't particularly be missed.

On us, I'm going to start with a few positives. Dack looks sharp, and was a deserved MOM last night, and encouraging to see Martin complete 90 minutes as well. Those two plus Wagstaff give us decent attacking midfield options now. We're getting a few players chip in with a couple of goals at the moment which is good, although they do happen to be our centre backs and defensive midfielder!

However, our forwards can't buy a goal at the moment, and our defence is prone to a couple of fuck ups per game minimum, which obviously isn't a wonderful combination. We've picked up battling draws against the higher teams since Pennock has been here (2-2s at Bradford and Sheffield United), and I could easily see another draw as we've become specialists. Both teams to score on the acca is absolutely nailed on!

I am confident we will score against the Shrimpers.

I am even more confident that if their attack scored four at Posh they will tear our shambolic defence to shreds to the extent that we will need to order new nets afterwards.

How did the nice passing Gillingham team from August turn into one that exclusively booted the ball to our goalkeeper at 2-0 up v 10 men? Shocked by how different the style is now, can see why not winning many.

Anyway, that ginger lino done us in twice. Ref waves away penalty from 10 yards away and then lets linesman overrule from 40 yards. Red card looked foul the wrong way to me but I didn't have best view, but again lino went against us.

But we were poor first half and deserved to go in behind. The second goal defensively was pathetic. Never mind.

Seen it all back, both decisions are shocking but the red card particularly ludicrous.

Errr...Not having won in eleven matches and only one clean sheet all season will do that to your confidence.

Typical us though. First double of the season and it is against a top six side. BBC stats showed that before Inniss was sent off, Southend had only had one shot and none on target. After going down to ten men they had six on target, so we did our best to throw the game as has been our recent habit.
We kept Cox in his box apart from going over the top on Ehmer, and Fortune was invisible before being replaced by Mr Nice Guy.
Looking forward to hearing Tango Man's opinion:bravo:

Yeah, I was asking how it got to this stage progressively since August.

Regarding Cox on Ehmer, zero contact was made. Even your ginger lino saw that as he didn't wave his flag for the first time all afternoon.

Southend don't like losing do they?

Was all the ref's fault the other week when they lost at Millwall too.

He really did. Although on video he was 20 yards away instead, if you're being picky.
He waves away nothing

Must be annoying that you've lost 3/3 against us this season considering how poor we've been. I guess that would make you suspect it's the refs fault.

Awful first half from us and really could've done with the experience of Anton Ferdinand so hopefully he'll be back for next week, the officiating was very poor but we didn't help ourselves either. Dominated the second half with ten men as we did at Millwall but the damage was done, almost grabbed a point but wasn't to be.

I was behind the goal, it was clear as anything and we all saw it. Linesman gave the penalty, ref wasn't going to give it. What was your view of the ref?

As for other games, we got killed by JET on the two games he was arsed to play all season. You looked like promotion candidates that day. Nothing to do with us that you've gone to shit since.

If you want to be picky, then there is less than 2 seconds between the challenge and the ref blowing his whistle. You're looking for something that isn't there. I've already said the red was dodgy, but Innis could've gone for the first foul on Donnelly anyway, regardless of being on the pitch for the second yellow. Other than that, he was no worse than plenty we've seen this year.

Really don't know why I'm debating this with you, but I saw it, our radio station commentating mentioned it, as did numerous other fans on Twitter minutes after it'd happened. How can people independently see the same thing that wasn't there?

Likewise, how can you decide 'the referee wasn't going to give it' when there is a gap of less than 2 seconds between the incident and him blowing his whistle? I don't care if your fans and radio station didn't think it was a penalty, that's an opinion - I'm giving you a fact.

I honestly would like to know on what basis you say it was not a penalty. Are you saying Demetriou did not make contact with McDonald or that he played the ball?

The photo in this report would seem to indicate against the latter:

Seeing the red again on the TV Highlights, clearly Inniss has hold of Parker's shirt very briefly. One of those debatable bookings but admittedly harsh when it causes a sending off.

Parker tripped Innis up. Innis getting a yellow for that is frankly pathetic. At most the referee should have warned him to be careful. I'd like to think we'll pump Vale but doubt it

I don't think anyone is pretending that Innis deserved a second yellow for that to be fair!
