Big opportunity here for us with this been our game in hand on teams around us, we can go 10 clear of Norwich and above Leeds ahead of our game with them this weekend. Got to keep our recent good form going and cement our place in the top 6.

2-0 Wednesday (Rhodes, Hutchinson)

No disrespect to Brentford, but this is a match we should be winning. Need to keep the winning run going and put pressure on the teams above us as well as creating a bigger gap to the playoff chasing pack. 3 more points would be a huge boost going into the massive Leeds match on Saturay. 2-0 Rhodes and Winall would do fine.

I watched Brentford v Villa the other week, they looked very good and Jota is bang in form, they've had the weekend off so will look to be taking advantage if we are leggy.

After a couple of cracking performances, we've been a bit disjointed in the last two, and our defending has been pretty bad.

Still, expectations are low for this game, which suits us, as typically defend well against strikers of the ilk of Winnall / Rhodes, and we should have plenty of chances to break with Jota / Canos / Jozefzoon.

Likelihood is we'll lose, but we stand a decent chance of getting something.

Nice to see both CBs on the scoresheet as well. Egan scored a few at the beginning of the season but hasn't had much luck since then. We've been traditionally very bad from set pieces the past 4-5 years, we went something like 30 games without scoring from one at some point I think, but this season we really seem to have turned a corner on them (please excuse the pun...)

Well that's the end of our winning run and to be honest that sort of result has been coming for a while now. Poor 1st half from us, but although Brentford went in 2 up, they didn't do much either really. Capitalised on sloppy defending from 2 set plays after having 2 minor refereeing decisions go their way (also thought we had a decent penalty appeal turned down. Need to see again on Tv). 2nd half was more of the same until last 20 minutes when we started creating and missing lots of chances. Credit due to the Brentford defenders who threw themselves in front of everything and especially their goalkeeper who looked unbeatable. We looked a lot more threatening once Mcmanaman was on, he really should have been brought on much earlier and certainly deserves a start on Saturday. Hope we go to Leeds and continue where we left off, attacking. Think if we go and attack we are capable of out scoring them, but if we go to sit back and hope to hit them on the break we may not be good enough to defend for 90 minutes. Disappointing result but on a positive note we certainly looked better going forward ,( in the last 20 minutes or so) created more chances than we have been doing recently and Forestieri looked a lot more interested than he has sometimes done this season. From a Brentford perspective great result and perfect away performance. Nick a goal, defend for your life, nick another defend even more, add in some inspirational goalkeeping and still look dangerous on the limited opportunities you get to break out.

Think that report is about spot on, can't disagree with any of it.

Disappointing but it has been coming for a few weeks with the way we've been playing, just wish we'd go for teams at home as we have the ability to really turn teams over but i feel we're too cautious.

Can't bemoan our luck really last night considering the amount of we've had of late but for me the foul on Forestieri is 100% a penalty.

Considering we don't have a fit striker at the moment, last night couldn't have gone better.

Don't know why the club are seemingly happy to only have 2 strikers at a time, leaves us very reliant on luck and injuries in that area could ruin our season.

Bit more gracious on here in defeat than the manager was:

We all know that 1FF has a reputation for diving so might find it harder to win penalties than other player (probably not fair but way of life..)

In Carlos' defence he doesn't usually blame the referee which suggests he was bad on the night, which i will agree with. But like i said, these things even themselves out and we've had a lot of luck of late so it's hard to go mad about decisions going against us.

That's the penalty appeal that is been discussed and it looks even more stone wall on the video than it did at the time.

Is that John Egan any good? he was a player I thought we should be looking at on a free but he seems pretty bang average at this level from what i've seen.

Gillingham fans raved about him like he should have been Chelsea bound.

He was brilliant for our first 10 or so games, didn't lose a header and made a huge number of goal saving tackles.

We then lost our left back to injury, which meant he lost a lot of protection on his weak side, and he was pretty poor when we switched to a back 3. There's a player in there, definitely an above average CB at this level (would have him over any of your current CBs) and there's potential to be better, but I don't think he's got the tools for the PL (then again a number of average Championship defenders have done pretty well at PL level).

Yeah refs are so shit in this league. Feels like every game of ours has a big decision totally wrong at the moment.

He'll play Premier League without question. I'd wager any amount of money on that. Look at Mawson for example, who Egan was comfortably as good as if not better when they were at the same level, and is now playing weekly in the top flight. He won't go right to the top, but lower mid-table Premier League is definitely not beyond him.

Fair enough, Tom Clarke has been outstanding this season and I certainly wouldn't swap him but he's obviously pushing 30 now.

Echo the thoughts of pretty much everyone else really, Brentford were quite fortunate to come away with 3 points, our first half performance threw the game away however if the ref gave the blatant penalty it could have all been different. The free kick Brentford scored the first from was debatable and it was never a corner for the second, appalling referee. We need to start playing in the first half though rather than getting going after an hour as we usually do, massive game tomorrow now.
