Which away games are you most and least looking forward to for the 2017/18 season, and why?

This obviously changes from club to club, geographic location and rivalry etc.

Me personally, I don't mind the long trips as it's a good excuse for a day out and a piss up. This is obviously based on initial thoughts as the fixtures aren't out yet.

For me it would be

Looking forward to:

1 - Blackburn Rovers (never been, local)

2 - Blackpool - (local, last time we were there at Easter was an ace day out)

3 - Charlton (love a trip to the capital, would say AFC Wimbledon but their ground ruins it)

4 - Portsmouth (loads of places to drink, obviously a long trip but makes it a good day out, great stadium with great atmosphere)

5 - Bristol Rovers (good piss up)

6 - The local derbies with Dale and Oldham, decent due to a decent away following and atmosphere, but as a day out pretty shit.

7 - Wigan (local, decent selection of boozers)

Least anticipated:

The usual selection really, unless they fall on a bank holiday or last game.

1 - Scunthorpe (an away day with no redeeming feature, boring town in the arse end of nowhere, dead ground miles from the town centre)

2 - Gillingham (miles away, awful away end, not the nicest place, although Bury is hardly paradise in fairness),

3 - Milton Keynes (Great stadium, but Milton Keynes is the strangest place I've ever been to, so concrete and sterile)

4 - Southend (again, miles away but it redeems itself in that you can potentially make a weekend of it)

The other 13 trips are either just unnoteworhy (from the perspective of a Bury fan) and aren't too bad or too good, middle of the road.

I also understand that for many, a trip to Bury hardly sets the heart racing, although I imagine it's proximity to Manchester saves it somewhat.

How about your perspective on away games for the coming season?

Looking forward to:

1 - Portsmouth. Not been for years and it's not a million miles away

2 - Southend. Always a good atmosphere when we go there.

3. Blackburn. Never been.

4. Plymouth. Fun trip.

Least anticipated:

1. Dale / Bury / Oldham / Wigan / Blackpool / Fleetwood / Bradford / Scunthorpe / Rotherham / Doncaster. All more or less the same level of interest attached to all of these.

2. Wimbledon. Local, but that's all it has going for it. Small allocation and you can't see anything.

3. Shrewsbury. So bland.

I'd imagine we'd feature quite highly on the negative list because apparently people judge a ground based on having a roof - despite the fact that for most smaller away crowds (which is most of the division) we now stick them under cover in the corner so you can't use that excuse anymore chaps!

Looking forward to

1. Donny. Local derby and haven't played them in the league for about 10 years and i live closer to the Keepmoat than NYS so like an home game for me.

2. Blackpool. Hope it's a Saturday so we can make a weekend of it.

3. Fleetwood. Never been to Fleetwood so probably make another weekend of it in Blackpool or might just stay in Fleetwood.

4. Portsmouth. Never been to Fratton Park so looking forward to visiting a full stadium with passionate fans and hopefully decent day out.

5. Plymouth. Stopped over for the night the last time and it was decent night out, hopefully we drop on a Saturday fixture.

Least anticipated

1. Gillingham. Been about 5 times and theres was only 1 pub for option on the corner and even that was shutting down the last time. Have only seen us win once there which was a cracking 4-3 win but the away end is terrible for view and atmosphere.

2. Shrewsbury. Just 1 pub on the roundabout for option and i agree with 1 of the other comments a bland day out.

Others aren't too bad but i hate going to places where the stadium is out of the way like Scunthorpe, Donny and MK Dons but the first 2 are local and the last 1 is a great stadium and we always take a good following to MK Dons so the overall day makes it better than it should.

I have to be honest, I'm not really inspired by any tbh. I was over confident that we would be promoted and be playing the likes of Leeds, Villa, Fulham, Wednesday and Sunderland so the alternative is quite depressing atm hopefully it will lift. But this will be our 14th year in the bottom 2 tiers when for most of my early days supporting the club we'd being in the top 2, I was to young to go on away day trips back then so am more used to the likes of Gillingham and Northampton I'd like a change but never mind.

If I had to name 3 it would be Blackburn, Portsmouth and Charlton as I've ever been I just hope they aren't on a Tuesday like Charlton was this season. Blackpool is a decent day out as well, but going into a 3/4 empty stadium doesn't get the pulse racing.

Most looking forward to...

1. Rotherham United. Our biggest rivals, not played them in the league for a few years, this will be a tasty affair.

2. Scunthorpe United. Again another massive rival of ours, need pay back for the other season where they did double on us.

3. Plymouth Argyle. Need to give these one after last season.

4. Blackpool. Always an amazing weekend away.

Eh?

It may be that it only takes me 40 minutes to get to Gillingham but I find it such an underrated away day. I get the away end itself is crap but people always seem to think it's crap for drinking aswell. Just isn't true, I can think of 4 or 5 pubs down the high street or just off it and that's just from the top of my
head.

Plus, there's lots of drinking options on the way. Rochester, Chatham etc which are only up the road and have plenty of pubs.

Yeah there's plenty. I accept that the Brian Moore Stand isn't perfect, but (contrary to what someone said earlier, which was a weird comment) you get a good view from there, it's big enough to take a decent away following and there's alright facilities. Yeah it's not got a roof and it's a temp structure (14 years and counting!), but overall it's not as bad as it's made out.

Bristol Rovers, Pompey, Blackpool if it's on a Saturday and it's not in December

Not many, we lost 4 or 5 decent away days and replaced them with mostly northern tinpot shite, I hate this league

Sooner we're back in the Championship where we belong the better

Probably just looking forward to Blackburn as it's the only ground I've not been to that I'll actually go to.

Never been to Charlton, Plymouth or Portsmouth but doubtful I'll get to any of those. Maybe get down to London for Charlton this season if it's not on a Tuesday night again.

Haven't been to many away games in my life, so I'm going to try and get to a few local(ish) ones such as Charlton and Wimbledon.

Good: Donny, Bradford and Charlton are good piss-ups and i've never been to Blackburn or Rotherham.
Bad: Southend, Gillingham, Oldham and going to Blackers for about the 72nd time.

Blackpool, the London games and Shrewsbury (providing it's on an Autumn or Spring Saturday) are the only ones that stand out.

Was one of our best aways two years back. Lovely town, good choice of pub/bars, and a nice walk to the ground on a boiling hot day. I get the feeling it would be awful on a Tuesday night or a cold winter Saturday though.

Twenty's plenty plus travel costs are an issue. I guess that's no away matches for me next season. On the other hand, I'll be at every home match except the tinpot cup which I'm boycotting.

Just want Wimbledon at home on August 12th and 19th, so I can go to games while in London. If they are not at home I need a close to or in London away game, Northampton , Peterborough, Oxford, Gills, Southend or Charlton would do. Bristol at a pinch, My Mrs doesn't like to travel too far, on a train.

Most : Peterborough, only 20 odd miles my from my gaff, get a few lads up for the weekend and take advantage of the proximity by getting smashed in the Brewery Tap. Have been planning to do this for a few seasons, but the games have either been on a Tuesday night or I've been otherwise engaged.

Least : Fleetwood, because it's somewhere near Lapland and I don't remember us ever getting a result there regardless of how good/rubbish we might be at the time.
