Don't worry Craig, you'll be suffering next season. In the meantime, good luck replacing half your entire squad, you've made some ok/decent signings, but you'll be nowhere near the level you were last year. I'm not saying we won't be shit too, but with Lewin Nyatanga gone, you have no chance mate.

I'm not sure in this league that it's that easy, Hull had a shit end of the 90s, Boro went bust in 86, us and Leeds had bad times....

Brizzle had bad times in the early 80s.

Bolton going through it.

Price of failure or success is relevant.

Finished bottom of the football league in 86 and had to apply for re-election.

No top flight football since 1961.

Lost 9 out of 10 play-offs.

At least you've won once..

We're now up to six playoffs, zero promotions. Four finals, three different venues, losing in 90mins, 120mins and penalties. Joint worst playoff record at this level. Finished second at this level the one season that it didn't give automatics.

That said, I don't think failing the playoffs is the point of this thread. More for clubs that have been screwed over by owners, FA etc.

Come back when youve lost 9 consecutively.

Winning once all season was pretty shite.

Worse off teams than us though, we're just like a comedy act that people can rely on to cheer them up.

Sheffield United have a great pre war history, virtually continuously in the top flight, regular cup runs and cup finals. Arguably our best team was in 1939, just been promoted from division 2, club on a high, top of division 1 with big crowds THEN............world war 2 broke out part way through the season.

Since the 2nd world war Sheffield United are the only major club (best supported) that has never won anything, never been in a FA or league cup final and never been in Europe. It's impressive we still have a hardcore 20,000 fans when none of them have seen any major success.

Also we have a history of last day of the season woes affecting both promotion and relegation, often grasping defeat in the jaws of victory, conceding last minute goals, missing penalties, hitting the woodwork etc. Some quite bizarre stories as though the gods of fortune were playing tricks on us. In the 70's as a kid I was always told by older relatives "Sheffield United, always the brides maid, never the bride". Also we've had a reputation for decades as being "serial bottlers".

We've lost all 4 play-off finals we've been in, not even scoring a goal.
We've failed to win our last 7 FA cup semi finals, again not scoring in most of those matches and often losing by the odd goal in close matches.
We've failed to win both our 2 league cup semi finals, conceding a late goal in both.
Hence why some of our fans actually boycott Wembley, also there's a large majority of Blades that are convinced we'll lose when ever we play an historic match, the negativity is tangible.

Although I remember a Coventry fan saying that they've not witnessed a promotion battle for many years and nearly always finish mid table. Where as although we've suffered at the final hurdle (see above) all Blades have seen us have regular good cup runs and regular/ numerous promotion battles, so it's never been boring, in some ways arguably we haven't suffered as much as others.

Its definetly Wednesday fans. We have to suffer living in the same City (sometimes same house) as them.

Sheff Utd have had a few spells in the top flight though. I mean don't get me wrong I wouldn't trade our football league trophy triumph for a decade of premier league football but it's not to be sniffed at.

Good shout, that.

They were in the 2nd tier as recently as 2002 and now find themselves in the 6th tier.
Still get great support though, on the doorstep of the 2 Manchester giants but still averaged 3,447 last season, that's better than many league clubs.

If this thread covers teams who aren't currently in this league, Stockport definitely, Darlington too.

Orient fans have had a bit of a shit time. Penalties away from the Championship a few seasons ago. Now they are all Cockneys. Tragic.

us, not only are we in this hellhole of a league with the likes of Barnsleh and Cardiff but we are also hated by people because their dads read a report from 1972 or something

I don't think Darlington had it any worse than other clubs who went bust and reformed. They were only a few years out of town at Bishop Auckland; we spent 24 years out of Maidstone, Scarborough have just moved back home too after a decade away.

Stockport is probably the right answer for a club who never went bankrupt though.

You might say Leeds United, but then I'd rather be a Leeds fan than any other team in this division bar my own. At least they have something about them. Near enough everyone else is fucking soulless.
