Similar thread was done on our board and was interested in how our new friends down here are shaping up. Admittedly, I don't really know the players to look out for in this league, the only names I'll probably know are those who've played in L1 and L2 over the last few years, but anyway might relieve the summer boredom to see how other sides look on paper.

Ours is probably something like this (at the moment)

Scott Loach

Carl Magnay
Scott Harrison
Brad Walker/ Matty Bates
Blair Adams

Ryan Donaldson
Luke George
Nicky Deverdics
Jack Munns

Jake Cassidy
Padraig Amond

Subs: No keeper yet, Kenton Richardson, Liam Donnelly, Woods, Rhys Oates, Nicky Featherstone, Devante Rodney.

Still short of a couple for me. I'd like an out and out left winger if we go 442 (or maybe young Blackford will finally get a shot?), another centre back and centre midfield to slot straight in.

Hard to say if that side is stronger than last season but it's no worse that's for sure. May even be slightly better.

Can't be many teams with a better first eleven. If there is then fair play.

Very good starting XI that.

Ours will all be dependant on the formation we play. A straight 4-4-2 will see us leave either Jack Powell or Andy Drury out of the starting XI, along with Dean Rance, who is capable of performing. The same formation will also see us have two very good strikers on the bench, with Danny Kedwell, Aaron McLean, Darren McQueen and Danny Mills to chose from.

Personally, I'd like to see us go with the wing back option and line up something like this:

Nathan Ashmore

Dave Winfield
Kenny Clark
Yado Mambo (or a new centre back)
Anthony Cook
Sean Shields (or a new signing)

Jack Payne
Jack Powell
Andy Drury

Darren McQueen
Danny Mills

Only issue with that is, not sure Shields and Cook would provide they would if they were further forward.

If we play a 4-4-2 then we need another winger and a full back.

Ours will be pretty much the same as last season, not sure where the two new players will come into it though.

So a few gaps, and I might be wrong with the formation as 4-4-2 and 5-3-2 have also been used regularly too.

I am assuming the Robinson in the middle there is Matt Robinson? If so, how has he been for you? Always quite liked him but always seemed a bit awkward to watch and a bit technically limited, be interested to hear how he has done for you.

I really hope he lines them up like this, I don't think I could stomach another season watching a lone striker chasing shadows for 90 minutes.

Harrison said he thinks the team is 90% there, hoping for one more signing in a key area which I imagine would be a centre back, it doesn't look like Walker is going to stay, Bates can only manage about 30 games a season and Donnelly is certainly not a centre back, I actually don't know what he is?

I'd also like to see Rodders get a fair crack of it next season, he looked like the nuts during his Donny cameo, think he could have a strong season.

May line up with a 4312, Connor Jennings behind the front two.

Tollit, Harris, Kirby (and Vaughan if he re-signs) unlikely to be fit for the start of the season. Wallace may be available, in which case likely to start and may go to diamond formation.

Lacking pace at the back, latest rumour of possibly signing Tom Davies from Pompey, no idea if he'll be any help in that regard.

Poor old dependable hardworking Paul Rutherford. He can't even get in the side when we've not got enough players.

With at least a couple of forwards to come in, Holroyd or Mackreth might find themselves on the bench too at the start of the season.

We need a left back and right winger, and may not play a flat 4-4-2, but I imagine these 9 are either in or very close to our first XI.

We're looking stronger than last season, and still have quite a lot of new signings to make.

Tom Shaw was going to step back as assistant manager this season, but we are so short on numbers that it won't be possible.

Looks a good XI, although I feel we're missing a bit of creativity in CM (Benyu will be a massive miss this season).
Still need some defensive cover (a CB and a LB) but the squad is looking decent on paper. Hope the new striker we signed (can't remember his name) is good enough for this level, as we really lacked a proper goalscorer last season.

Tollitt and Harris are both expected to be fit for the start of the season.

With the players we currently have contracted, I think it will be more like this:

Davies
Buxton McNulty Sutton Ridehalgh
Dunn Harris Hughes Tollitt
Cook Norwood

Subs: Gumbs Wallace / Norburn Jennings Mangan

If Vaughan stays, we will have the option of playing wing backs with Connor Jennings behind the strikers. Either way, the difficulty Mellon will have this season is accommodating both Tollitt and Connor Jennings in the same team, two key players for us.

Good news re Tollit and Harris in that case. I read Ben's recent article on the o/s and wasn't absolutely sure.

I would hope that Micky Mellon makes every effort to get a line-up which utilises both Tollit and Connor Jennings, even if that means playing CJ out wide or one of them up front.

Hinchliffe

Minihan - Clarke - O'Halloran - Hampson

Winter - Walker

Thomas - Warbuton - Stephenson

Oswell

That would be the way I'd go, but I think we'll go 3 at the back quite a lot this season:

Hincliffe

Clarke - O'Halloran - Smalley

Minihan - - - - Hampson

Winter - Walker

Warburton

Stephenson - Oswell

With a bench of: Ormson, Smalley, Cowan, Brazel, Ball & Duxbury

Nah mate, centre back. At least he has been for us for the past 3 years, and was at Dartford and Chelmsford previous to that. ;)

I was thinking of ex Kenny Davis the Braintree cm :fl::ffs:

He won't be as good as Benyu, but I feel Oyeleke will do a decent job in that position. The other option Waddock has is to play 4-2-3-1 and have 3 of Kanu/Mensah/Fenelon/Taylor playing behind the striker.

He was brilliant for us earlier in the season but as soon as he got injured our midfield became lightweight from November onwards. Did not play another game for rest of season. Back fit now I heard. He is your midfielder that does the dirty stuff which you need in this cesspit division.

Oh yeah, it's easy to forget about Parry, even when he's on the pitch. But he's a really effective player and can play a few positions. As long as he's not too badly affected by his injury, he's worth a deal for sure.
