Are Maidenhead really big spenders? Don't really see them doing much this season.

I agree Ebbsfleet will probably be in the group challenging for the play offs rather than higher, but right now really this division is Tranmere's for the taking, however history of title favourites suggests there's every chance they'll cock up. If they do there's going to be a big crowd of teams ready to pounce, I'd include Ebbsfleet in that. 33/1 seems good odds considering. Certainly expect Fylde to be competitive as well from the new guys, value isn't there though for them.

To me, the mention of Maidenhead is him saying that, despite being promoted, they're not certainties for relegation - that a lot of teams even have an outside chance of a play-off push.

Dagenham are the big rivals to Tranmere for me, but Hartlepool's starting XI posted here looks very strong too.

Maidenhead aren't big spenders, but they do have the money there to spend if necessary.

Given that we've done almost all of our business (I would say one player left to sign), I reckon we could line up something like this first game...

Nathan Ashmore

Sam Magri
Dave Winfield
Kenny Clark
Jack Connors/Bagasan Graham

Anthony Cook*
Jack Payne
Andy Drury
Myles Weston

Darren McQueen*
Danny Mills

Subs: Jon Miles (GK), Yado Mambo, Jack Powell, Bagasan Graham/Jack Connors, Aaron McLean

* - I'm not 100% these guys will start.

Still think we need another defender who can play anywhere across the back and that side is also missing Danny Kedwell, Dean Rance, Marvin McCoy and Sean Shields (could end up going out on loan) who have been excellent for us. McMahon certainly has a job on his hands! I think we'll be very, very strong going forward.

Edited, with the signing of Sam Magri. Can't imagine us signing anymore now.

Not sure about Hampson as a wing-back, think Duxbury would fit it better

Also not really seen Warburton yet so can't pass judgement but I thought he was more of a striker, someone like Jimmy Ball would be more suited to a deep no. 10 role (like Rickie Lambert was, during the one season we used him properly)

Coming together nicely now to be honest, just need another decent winger and striker and we'll be looking okay.

Really interested to see how Muggleton does for York. Based on his time at Barnet I still have the Conference Regional as a division too high, minus the long throw.

I reckon this will be our first eleven and is also pretty much the eleven that finished the last season. All the loans made permanent with the addition of a few squad players. Our strikers certainly look strong but I would say we need maybe another experienced CB for cover. I like our midfield, we have a good mix. Jack Paxman is a sleek, stylish creative player whilst Stuart Lewis is a bit more direct and runs himself into the ground every game. Reece Prestedge is a typical tough tackling, robust midfielder with a good passing range.

I reckon we need one CB and one CM and we'll be ready to join the group of play off challengers, whether we're able to actually take part in the play offs or not.

As much as I would love to agree I can't see that happening. The Centre back and Centre-Mid would have to be top class players for that to happen. This league has improved dramatically, teams like Southport and North Ferriby have been replaced with teams like AFC Fylde and Ebbsfleet. These teams have a considerable larger financial backing and could easily be up there for the play-offs alongside the qaulity already in this league such as Aldershot, Tranmere and Hartlepool etc.

We don't yet have a starting eleven - only one forward signed on so far. Perhaps Leeds will lend us a few for our friendly on Saturday

But you're forgetting that from when we signed Lewis and Prestedge to the end of last season (which started with dropping into the relegation zone) we got the 4th most points. Yes the mid table sides were already looking forward to this season, but we essentially have the same squad, with a couple of improvements. And with the 2 extra spots available this time, we could definitely sneak in.

Gannon has talked about Warburton as the number 10 a few times - he is definitely seen as the Marsden replacement.

Anyway that team above has 12 players haha.

Think we'll look fairly similar to the end of last season with addition of Dom Collins from Fylde to hopefully make us a little more solid at the back. Although we are currently close to another signing. Hopefully a striker as that's the only area we don't have much cover.

Wishful thinking I feel....

A top half finish would be a good season.

I'd be inclined to agree. Loan players are there for a reason. They're either playing to get themselves game time at their club or to put themselves in the shop window. Similar to trialists in pre season.

The Stones will stay up comfortably I reckon, but can't see them troubling the top half.

Agreed, wishful thinking.

On top of that most of the teams we played had nothing to play for, we were the underdog in every single game. No one expected us to beat the likes of Wrexham, Chester and draw with Lincoln but we did. So now its a new season are we still going to be able to pick them points up whilst being favourites?

Will be good to see what happens this season but staying up again is an achievement for me.

Tollitt and Harris are both expected to be fit for the start of the season.

With the players we currently have contracted, I think it will be more like this:

Davies
Buxton McNulty Sutton Ridehalgh
Dunn Harris Hughes Tollitt
Cook Norwood

Subs: Gumbs Wallace / Norburn Jennings Mangan

If Vaughan stays, we will have the option of playing wing backs with Connor Jennings behind the strikers. Either way, the difficulty Mellon will have this season is accommodating both Tollitt and Connor Jennings in the same team, two key players for us.

Tollitt was doing full out sprints on thursday mate he looks ready for pre season tbh
The latest info suggests Tollit won't be ready to participate in pre-season, though Jay Harris probably will. Given the number of games that get shoehorned into August, Ben's absence will make it harder to get off to a good start.

You'll always have a chance of picking up points against the top sides, I remember the first season we went down, second half of the season we beat Stevenage (1st), Mansfield (3rd), and York (5th) at home whilst beating Luton away. Our second half of the season form was play off form, but that dreaded run of 8 games without a goal cost us eventually, as well as the three points we had taken off when Chester were no longer competing.

I think you'll have a comfortable season. Don't think you'll be in a relegation scrap this time.
