one game I don't remember the name of, nor can I ever find it, but it was awesome. You played as an assassin chick and the game had a really unique for a shooter (at the time) cel shaded art style.

Wasn't XIII was it? Although I'm pretty sure you're a guy in that.

That's the only cell shaded FPS I can think of from that era....

But yeah, this is a really hard topic. I think the general idea from this thread seems to be that the answer is either the PS1 or PS2, with a few N64 fans and some 360 fans. While I never had an N64 at the time, I still got one a few years back and found a lot of the games to be pretty decent... but while it has a fair share of great games, I feel as if the PS1 and PS2 had more great games.

But I feel as if the 360 is still in with a good shout... just listing off some of the great stuff it had:

GTA IV and V, as well as Bully and RDR
Gears of War 1, 2 and 3
Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3 and New Vegas
Bioshock 1, 2 and Infinite
Halo 3 and 4
Portal 1 and 2
Mass Effect 1, 2 and 3
COD Modern Warfare (and if you actually don't mind them, great COD games every year after for the most part)
Batman Arkham Asylum/City

There are a hell of a lot more, but those are the picks of the litter for me. And yeah, a lot of them are multiplatform, so perhaps the PS3 is in with as good a shout here (Minus Halo/Gears, throw in Uncharted and TLOU?).

I think it's hard to really distinguish between whether it was better to be a 360 or PS3 owner (or PC player?)... but I'd generally say that, at the very least, that generation of games was pretty fucking special. And probably my favourite. And yeah, it kinda helps that it lasted a lot longer than most generations.

Yes, it was XIII! My hero(es). I could have sworn you played as a female though :pond:

Turns out it was available on PC too, so I'm gonna see if I can find a playable version. Cheers!

Tbh I only played bits of it but was always under the impression that you were a guy.

My vote deffo goes to PS2, most of my favourite series have their best installments on it
Devil May Cry 3
MGS 2 & 3
Tekken 5 DR
GTA:SA
plus loads of other cool stuff I cba to list

I think I'm confusing it with another game I used to play on Xbox which actually had a female lead. Though I have no idea what that game was either.

Anyway, guess what I've been doing for the past couple of hours...

Mega Drive or Xbox 360 for me. They're the ones I got the most out of. The SNES had some awesome games to rival the Mega Drive too, but I think Mega Drive had more top quality games. The 360 was the first console I played so much since my Mega Drive and SNES days. Ive probably poured more hours into the Mass Effect, Arkham and Gears trilogies alone than I did on some consoles altogether.

The Master System without a doubt. It came with Alex The Kid built in so you didn't even have to buy any games for it.

NO.

NO.

Fucking "The". Fucking... NO. I'm done. I can't even be fucked with this now. I've spent my life waging this one man war against people putting the word "The" in the title of Alex Kidd. NO. It's done me in. I can't do it anymore. Every time I feel as if I'm going to go a full year without hearing that dreaded "the" get dropped in the title, something like this happens. Fuck it, somebody else do it. Seriously, google the term "Alex the Kidd" and see how many of those results have the word "the" in them. Then SORT OUT YOUR FUCKING LIFE. Because I ain't gonna do it for you any more.

N64 having Ocarina of Time, Goldeneye, Mario Kart 64, Super Smash Bros and Conker's Bad Fur Day (amazing game) means it wins for me. When you compare them to other games available at the time, OoT and Goldeneye were just so much better than anything else, and it's hard to beat Mario Kart 64 and Smash Bros for multiplayer gaming.

Plus, having everything on cartridge instead of CDs meant you didn't have to faff around with loading times or memory cards, everything for every game loaded instantly and was easy to save.

N64 was massively let down by lack of 3rd party support, while it had most of the top games, it didn't have the biggest of selections. I also think everyone would have a much higher opinion of the console if the Gamecube hadn't been such a large piece of wank, Nintendo have found it hard to recover since then (bar the Wii).
100% agree. Multiplayer is the biggest factor for me, there's a huge difference between a four player game and a two player. Plus the N64 has the best controller.

I know this is all opinions and stuff but that is just flat out incorrect. Gamecube had a better controller for a start.

N64 controllers are a mess. Yes, they innovated with the analogue stick and with the rumble feature, but beyond those two superb moves I haven't got a clue what they were thinking when they released that monstrosity upon us. I get it, a lot of people will have grown up with it and gotten used to it as kids so it'll feel a bit second nature to them, but as a guy who never had an N64 until the last decade or so I can confirm that they're fucking terrible.

I actually don't think that there's a controller I like less.

As for the best? I felt as if the 360 got it perfect, but then the XBONE went and improved upon that. So I'm gonna go XBONE.

Throughout my entire childhood I always thought it was "Alex the Kidd" so my mind was blown when I revisited the game circa 2004 and found out it was just Alex Kidd. Prime example of the Mandela effect right there!
