Do you have any future England internationals in your squad?

Just throwing this out there - feel free to ignore.

I wanted to ask fellow L1 fans if they believe they have a future England international within their ranks at the moment - whether they be on loan, permanent or among your youth teams?

The thinking behind this is that each club states a player they genuinely believe has a chance of an England cap in the future, and I'll list them club by club in this OP.

Perhaps a MOD can pin this thread and if the forum is still as active as it is now in a few years time, we can have a look and see whether we were correct in our views?

Lets not list a shitload from our clubs now, because that would be silly - we are in L1 after all.

I'll start the ball rolling...

Oldham Athletic

Connor Ripley (GK) - Currently on loan from Middlesbrough, has kept 11 clean sheets this season in a team that has been in a relegation scrap from the very first game. A massive reason why we have such a good defensive record and a massive reason why we aren't looking up at Coventry. From what I have seen so far this season, I don't believe there's a better GK in the division. There's absolutely no chance we will have him beyond this season, and if Boro go down I can see him taking their #1 jersey in the Championship as Valdes will likely head to America or something like that. Even if they remain in the Prem, I can see him being their backup keeper at the absolute minimum. I'd go as far to say that he's the best GK I have seen put on a Latics shirt from memory.

Oxford United

Ryan Ledson - Current England U19 International, looks to have some very decent potential. Whether he will make the full England team, it is a long shot, but if he fulfils his potential then he will play in the Premier League. Quality defensive midfielder who has a real desire to play as he chose to leave Everton, as unsurprisingly, his way was blocked into the Everton 1st team. Just like John Lundstram did as well so a positive in that both aren't just about money, they want to play.

We sold our only realistic chance last week to Bournemouth in Aaron ramsdale. I don't see the point in selling him that early for a million quid. We did the same with kyle walker now look what he's worth. Also got rid of Harry maguire and Matt Lowton too early as well and too cheap. We tend to produce a lot of very good talent but don't get the value out of it when we sell. Jagielka another one for 4million.

Probably not anymore, hard to say as our academy does keep churning out top players, Ezri Konsa and Joe Aribo the current two impressing in the first team.

If you had asked this question a month earlier I would say Ademola Lookman definitely. Ronald Koeman brought him as one for the future, a month on and he's now starting Premier League games. I can only imagine how good he's going to be as he gets older and benefits from learning from premier league coaches and players.

Connor Ripley definitely has a bright future ahead of him. We have always done very well with young premier league keepers on loan. Odd 1 hasn't worked.

Ripley however is the best of the bunch. Maturity beyond his years and as you say not a hope in hell we will have him next year.

Harvey Barnes from Leicester looks very, very good, in terms of our own players then I don't know if any of them will be England internationals, but there are a few lower down the academy that apparently have top potential, one (I can't remember his name but he definitely isn't older than 13) 'apparently' could be even better than Alli.

We have a young lad called Harker they are raving about, only 15 but claimed to be better than the 6 or so we have already blooded or sold.

We can look back at this thread and laugh when half of the names mentioned are playing for Boreham Wood, AFC Fylde and Kettering

That was David Kasamu that Robbo said that about. Looks very good from what I've seen.

There's two other younger ones I saw against Barca last spring that I thought were unbelievable talents. I'm surprised we haven't had the big boys calling yet.

100% this. We had a lad called Lewis Hornby who people were raving about and was playing in our first team a few years ago at 17 (not necessarily claiming he could play for England though). He got injured, vanished and is now playing for the mighty Kettering!

His brother Fraser was signed by Everton for 60k at the age of 13 and is now flying, reckon he will end up playing for Scotland.

Can't say I watched enough of that game, I was in the bar most of it haha.
Kasamu seems good but I was on about the younger brother of someone we released a year or two ago I think, one of the academy coaches was full of praise for the kid

Bloody hell Oldham fans aren't half overreacting over a 1-0 win over Chesterfield are they??

Regardless, we have Taylor Moore a current England u20 player. Based on his performance vs Shrewsbury he'll be nowhere near the England team anytime soon.

Don't think we have any who would get close to the England side to be honest, we haven't had that many in our history as it is!

We have a young keeper called Will Henry, played a couple of times for the first team, but at 18 he has been called up a couple of times to Bisham Abbey to train with the England goal keeping staff,. Great penalty stopper and dominates his box

If we're honest, any league one player showing real and present potential to be top class will either be constantly and very strongly linked with multi-million pound moves to top 6 Premier League clubs, or will have already gone before hitting the first team.

Ain't none of the players you've seen showing anything like the potential for that level, and there's no point talking about the youngsters who're getting scouts excited unless you're the type who regularly goes to u-21 matches.

Luke McGee in goal on loan from Spurs is top class. He could be in with a shout. Other than that, all our players are tonk.

We've currently got Jake-Clarke Salter, centre-half, on loan from Chelsea. Injured at the moment.
Backed by John Terry to be his replacement.

We're still basking in the glory of producing Dele Alli, and the eventual £12m+ sell on fee we'll get for him.

But as for our current crop...

Harvey Barnes (midfielder on loan from Leicester) is a real talent. 19 years old, scored twice in first two games for us, looks a real talent. Played in Champions League for Leicester in December. Skilfull, and a decent shot on him. Think he'll push into England U20/U21 soon.

As for our own academy players...

Andrew Osei-Bonsu looks really good. Think he's only 17 still but he has real presence/power in midfield. Reminds me of a young Yaya Toure. Will definitely get a pro deal soon.

We definitely dont have any good enough for England. Don't know if Matt Taylor ever got considered when he was at his peak playing premiership football scoring wonder goals.

It's been about 10 years since we've had a youth player become an established member of our squad, I doubt we're gonna have anybody play for England anytime soon.

Just over 6 years since we had two players on the pitch at Wembley in England shirts for a Euro qualifier. How times have changed.

Only player I can think of at the moment in the England set up is one of our academy lads, Jake Turner. Goalkeeper for the England Under 18's side.

The only one who 'could' potentially go all the way is Nathan Smith. He's been watched a number of times by a number of clubs all season. He made his first start on the opening day and has featured ever since. He still has plenty to work on, but he has an incredible work ethic and gets rave reports from managers and coaching staff alike regarding his attitude which goes a long way to show what sort of character he is.

I'm not convinced he could become an international, but of our current crop, he's certainly the most likely.

Fairly sure Jordan Archer will get a Scotland cap, but other than that there's absolutely nobody in our team I'd fancy to play premier league football, let along get an England cap.

Already capped by Bermuda or Barbados, I forget which one. He's good, but not that good. Lower premier league team the limit of his talent I suspect.
