The FA are (rightly) criticised a lot. However, on this rare occasion, they have shown a lot of sense and compassion in not giving Jake Livermore a suspension. I'm sure you all saw the article recently that cited his failed drugs test was due to a depression caused by the loss of his child, but reports since claim that was simply the tip of the iceberg for him.

I hope he gets the chance now to play, forget about his time away from the game and is given the support needed to get over the issues in his personal life. Jake is a player that, when in the right frame of mind, can be a quality midfielder, and would shine in this division. I look forward to seeing him back in a City shirt.

Due to the circumstances it would have been harsh to ban him.

Maybe it would be productive for him to do some work in the community, maybe going to schools or such to do talks on the dangers of drugs? I'm guessing Hull City probably has a community scheme that covers that sort of thing anyway though.

I agree with that. FA have to be careful that it does not give off the impression that it is okay to do drugs if you have had to deal with something traumatic. As you say, I think not banning him is correct, and then do something for him to raise awareness of why it was wrong and has not helped him through his grieving process.

I wholeheartedly agree with the idea of giving talks on the subject in a lot of cases, but not convinced it would be the right move here. Jake was not an habitual drug user. From what has been stated, and accepted as the truth, he used the drug once and was unfortunate to have been tested shortly after. While it would still be possible for him to talk about the misuse of drugs as a coping mechanism, I feel he needs to put this period of his life to bed and be able to get on with his life. He has issues, he needs to deal with those and, for me, that is the only action he needs to take care of.

You say that, but he would've most likely have gone on to take it frequently. You can never tell, but these things are addictive.
