Some very high points under Mickey but his time had come and we were definitely stagnating. Wonder who is lined up to come in??

Mellon was a very good manager at Fleetwood to a point, his fiery temperament can instill excellent attributes into teams but it can also be his achilles heel.

I think its a very good appointment for Tranmere and possibly Shrewsbury could do with a change.

I know managers like former players but Mellon more than most, and they often follow. Few ex codheads already in place at Tranmere and in terms of travel much easier location from his Lytham home.

Poor manager (OK, better than Brabin, but so is the average shitake mushroom) goes to club who haven't realised that they're non-league yet. Odds on Forest Green Vegans, Barrow, the National Farmer's Union, Boredomwood et al.have reduced at this news...

Probably the best for all parties.

He acted early in the transfer market but it seems that he's brought in bang average bottom of league one/league two fodder. I can only speak from experience, but signing Louis (1 good game in 8) Dodds, Ryan (Disaster waiting to happen) McGivern and AJ( Powder Puff) Leitch-Smith is never going to pull up any trees...and I think he's probably realised it and jumped before being pushed.

Shrewsbury used to be the team to beat in League Two but it just seems League One is a step too far.

This appointment is very important in terms of which direction the club goes in next. It will also be a good indication of how ambitious the Chairman currently is. Can he sell the club and make it sufficiently attractive to the calibre of candidate required or will he be perceived as going for the cheap option.

We shouldn't have too much longer to wait.

My preference is for Kenny Jackett who is amongst the bookies favourites, just the calibre of appointment that is required,

I hope not.
If he hangs on for a couple of weeks he can come and manage us.

Recent comments tend to indicate it won't be Kenny Jackett.

I'm more or less resigned to being underwhelmed by the eventual decision at this stage. :(

I will be disappointed should Town choose to appoint Hurst.

Of course there is a chance that it could work out, but it would be a massive punt and not the sort of thing the club should be considering in the current position. The bloke is exactly the opposite of what we need with only a few months of Football League managerial experience, considerably less than Mellon had and he was found hopelessly wanting in League 1.

We need a manager whose been there and done it before at this level and who can make a difference very quickly in terms of organisation and motivation.

The fact that so many decent candidates have stated they aren't interested, and the fact that it has taken this long without a manager be appointed, speaks volumes for the club's ambitions, ability to properly sell itself and how it is currently perceived in the football world in general.

FFS, when Gary Peters left in 2007 we had a very impressive short list of candidates, including out of work Championship managers, vying for the job before eventually appointing Paul Simpson and we were in League 2 then. It just shows how much the club has declined in recent times.

Looks like you're getting Hurst. He's never been in charge of a team fighting to stay up and he's a manager who needs time to build the squad he wants so honestly I'll be surprised if he keeps you up, but if you stick with him I'm pretty sure he'll take you back up again.

As above, surprised he's decided to move on to yourselves, he has finished in the play-offs every season he has managed with his previous three clubs except for his first season with us. Can spot a player, doesn't take disruption in the dressing room and very defensive minded, but not great with going forward and prone to tactical mistakes with little in the way of plan B.

Not sure how you are doing this season (apart from being in relegation zone) or what your side is like, but hope you give him time, as he won't pull up any trees until he gets his own players in.

I don't rate Mellon one bit, and find it hard to believe he got you promoted. Any monkey could have got Fleetwood promoted from the conference, and if given time Hurst will be a better manager for you, unfortunately I don't think he will get that time, especially if he takes too long to take you out of a lge 1 relegation battle.

All managerial appointments are of course a risk, but as I said previously I see this as a massive punt by Town due to Hurst's lack of Football League managerial experience. He's not the type of manager I would have targeted and I'm disappointed the club have chosen to go down this route, but a new manager we needed and a new manager we now have so hopefully we can move forward to better things (it would be hard to see it getting worse this season). He has a huge task on his hands though, particularly until January when much needed additions can be made.

Good luck to the fella, he's going to need it as Mellon has left him with a complete mess!

Be prepared to never come back from behind (especially at home) and never have him admit a mistake, ever. Prepare to be bewildered by tactical decisions and selections.

Also be prepared for a defensively solid manager who can spot a player.
