SCREENSHOT THIS THREAD BECAUSE ADMINS WILL DELETE IT

Hi all.

After the week we've had, it saddens me to shed light on more admin mismanagement.

Ian has had his account placed on the 'discourage user' feature without warning.

This feature "subjects users to random errors, delays, and pages, simulating failures in the system behavior, with the ultimate aim of making them eventually leave the site." (Xenforo, the forum designer, explains on their website https://xenforo.com/help/discouraging-banning/)

The feature, in effect, tries to trick the user into thinking the website isn't working properly until they give up on trying to access it. It's basically a coward's way of banning someone. It's a stealth ban wherein the admins can (and almost certainly will) deny they have banned him.

This has been tested independently (logging into Ian's account and then into one's own to test speed etc) and has subsequently verified by an anonymous source 'in the know'.

Ian is a gadfly, and he may be a nuisance to the admins, but he is well-loved on here (cc Libertadores FC) and he would be missed. He has also been a loyal member of the TFF/1FF community for many years and is owed better treatment than this.

Just thought the users should know.

Disturbingly,

Smat

Would you say we stand in unity with Ian?

I say we start a new forum called onefootballforum and make Ian a mod as justice.

Ian was handed out a shout box ban and placed on the discouraged list for 1 month by myself for his persistent spamming/mentions of another forum despite numerous warnings.

No 'bullshit' - he's a member just like everyone else and should know better with his 'experienced member' tag.

Once the month is over his account will return to normal - there was also a warning attached to his account as well as many beforehand.

I will remove the discouraged from his account so he can use the site with freedom - but the shoutbox ban will last the full month, won't be contested and any other suspicious accounts opened to access the box will be removed immediately.

Thanks.

This "discouraged list" sounds like something from 1984.

What is it?

I actually read Smat's post now.

It's not like something from 1984, in fact, but more like that desensitising video from a Clockwork Orange.

Saddler I don't think his forum is a serious attempt to lure people away from here though. It's not even funded or designed. Unless he was spamming around the forum then I disagree with it. We all know Ian is just here to WUM.

I can verify that I logged in using Ian's account and liked one of my own posts and it took like 5 minutes. Then logged into my account and the speed was normal. Let's all pray for brave Ian during this hard time.

It's basically a stop gap between a full website ban and just a shoutbox/ban from certain areas of the forum. It slows down loading speed of pages, speed of replies etc. It's used literally to discourage instead of a full ban.

If you punish someone and don't tell them what they've been punished for, how on fucking earth do you expect them to change their behaviour?

Good to be back btw, thanks for all the letters of support. Helluva time we live in eh, folks.

I get it now, do you reckon he's going to be a lobotomised shell of his former self when he gets back? Monotonously muttering things like "I'm a good boy now!" and "the bosses made me site load suuuuuper fast!"

I will say as much as I disagree with this considering it's just a light joke that won't harm the forum in any way, limiting them is a good way to punish an established member. So here's the question, why doesn't TPP get put in the limited section?

It's like I said this place thrives off its WUMs. It always has. It keeps the activity going and has good banter. I don't come on here because of the football anymore, I've built a good relationship with the core of the member base and I'm sure there are a few others who are similar.

Because there's no communication between mods, no communication between mods and members, no standardised rules, and no real work ethic or commitment to bettering this place, other than making a quick buck.

Communication isn't the best perhaps. There's numerous threads regarding what to do and not. No use of personal names, last names, no homophobia, racism or sexism.

In your case (spamming links/references to others forums) there is polite reminder thread at the top of this very section about advertising.

This website is exactly the same value now as it would have been 6 months in, so the quick buck idea goes out the window straight away considering we are 2 years+ old now.

In the light of an admin explanation on the OP and the issue in hand explained. Leaving this thread open is pointless and as such, will be left closed in this section.

Thanks all.
