SSN are now saying that the deal is very close and only small details are needing to be finalised. They also reckon that Lukaku has been Jose's number one forward target the whole time, suggesting that Morata was always a fallback option and something of a smokescreen to get this deal done.

I'd love us to be in a position to tell Madrid to go fuck themselves, definitely.

I want us to sign Matić but I think Chelsea won't take kindly to us gazumping their approach for Lukaku and as such we might actually end up with Fabinho - which is what most United fans see as the preferable option anyway.

I'm still not very excited about Perišić either.

Boudebouz tentatively linked to us, presumably because he's a skillful Algerian and we'll need one to keep up with our quota if Mahrez departs. Don't see anything in that, but I'd be happy if we were in for him, Mahrez or not.

It's definitely time to say goodbye but it's always sad when a player who's done so much for us leaves. Our all time top goalscorer, won multiple PL titles and every other major domestic and European trophy. You could never question his commitment on the pitch, genuinely loves playing football and winning, and it's easy to forget just how amazing peak Rooney was. His partnership with Ronaldo was something else, those two on the counter attack were unstoppable.

I hope a move to Everton reinvigorates him and he finishes his career strongly. I reckon he's still got PL goals left in him, especially with energetic players like Gueye, Schneiderlin and Klaasen behind him.
