Expecting a tough game today v Blyth. Always difficult playing a promoted team first off. Their going to be raring to go and definitely an unknown quantity at this level. Its the sort of game we need to be winning if we want to seriously challenge though.

Showered and ready to go and scarf out the cupboard.....football time arrives.

have to go earlier than normally would to pick up Season ticket before game, not expecting a massive crowd really just a couple of hundred.

anyhow good luck to everyone for the season, may best team win it and hopefully no mass financial collapses this season. Today should give me an idea of whether to very much worry or not, we have lost some key players, but our defence seems extremely strong, if it is strong we should be fine this season, its if it ends up poorer on pitch than seems on paper we then need worry.

It was 20 minute mark last season!

3-0 up now.......they are really bad at back.

We are much more basic this season. Lack any creativity in midfield and going off a tactic of looking very strong at back, then hoping our two very good forwards create the chances.

More basic, not the usual passing approach, but working

Ty Williams should not be our starting CB. He lost nearly every physical battle, missed two easy headers and then scored an OG. Anybody got a new CB we can have before Tuesday?

Spennymoor with the win. I put a tenner on them to win the league. Will I be ok with that??

Alfreton 2-0 Blyth Spartans (Shiels 35, Johnson 65)

If i was putting a tenner on anybody to win this league it would be us.

Good omen for you too - Last time we won on the opening day was 2010/11 when we were crowned Conference North champions!

We were sensational today. We look like a very good oufit.

Blyth are a decent side with some good players and were a threat throughout.
However in a complete contrast to last season you felt like we never looked like conceding. We look very hard to break down while carrying a real threat up front. Jennings could have had 2 in the opening 20 minutes and was superb.

We could have easily won by 5 today and I dont think Blyth could have had too many complaints. Jennings Westcarr and Johnson all wasted good chances in the first half alone.

Very strange end to the game. With 86 minutes played the referee pulled up as he had pulled his calf. One Linesman volunteered to be ref. Which meant we needed a linesman. After 3 or so minutes of discussion our kit lady Pam offered to run the line for the last few minutes but in the end both management teams decided to play with just one linesman instead!! Never seen anything like it.

Blyth look a good side though comfortable at this level.

Its been one really weird start. The 3 strong favourites for the title all lost, two of them at home.....three teams were thumped.

I felt a wee bit sorry for a poor NFU fan standing near me who got into 'shouting in anger at everything in life' mode during second half, but first day does usually mean little, we let in 10 goals in the first 2 games yet ended up comfortably staying up last season.....that can at least give NFU, Boston and Nuneaton hope.

NFU have a really poor defence though, but also looked like a side hastily shoved together during the summer which we took advantage of....mind should have scored 6-7 goals today to be nicely top of the league.

Good for us going into Tuesday, no pressure on us and tonnes on Stockport.

I do feel for Ferriby fans a bit. It's a very ominous start for them, not matter how Curzon are currently setting up. Everything may be falling apart now Heath's left them, and a load of our "fans" seem to enjoy losing a lot more than winning just so they can call for his head. It's like taking a guinea pig off a child who loves and dotes on the creature, and giving 'em to a spoilt, violent toddler instead.

When will York fans really truly start to get angry, Jason McGill's tenure has been a DISGRACE lately, too many just muddled along grumbled and prepared for the new season, York City just lost to AFC Telford at home in the Conference North with a manager who is stubborn, outdated and not up to the job if he refuses to change and make effective tactical decisions, living in the past, he's not the same Mills we first signed.

There should be fucking riots at the state of this club, instead we'll grumble and plod along.

Thank fuck I am boycotting.

Really? Wow. Think circumstances dictated Blyths decision - the fact 86 minutes had already been played and that we were 2-0 goals behind.

Behind? You won 2-0 didn't you? same circs with the infamous Warrington game against us we were 2-0 up and their manager Reid refused to play with 1 lino and walked off. We eventually got awarded the win by the league

Yes we won 2-0. I am talking from Blyth`s point of view as to why they agreed to finish with one lino!

What a fantastic day at Salford. Absolutely Buzzing!
I'd have to say Salford were pretty poor considering all the transfer hype of their new signings.
And the amount of stray passes from one or two of their players was unbelievable.
Darlo performed really well, especially from the last encounter I saw back in April.
Work rate was exceptional as a team, Collins was outstanding in defense.
I just hope we can hold onto Ferguson. Man of the match by a country mile.
Job well done from the lads.

Probably might have been worth a punt each way 1/4 odds, pays out on the first three.
But good luck mate with yer bet you'll have got a decent price.

Great result DarkSithLord, I think you'll do well this season with some eye catching signings.
on a side-note, was Pete Jameson in goal for Blyth?
