So finally a win for Pompey at the weekend. Our first since the opening day of the season. Looked more like a team, although we still need the new players to gel and get fitter. Having two experienced league 1 full backs made the team look loads better. Typical we play Northampton with a new manager. Big forward Ollie Hawkins is out with another hole in his head. sub goal scorer Conor Chaplin looks set to start up front with Pitman. Hoping the confidence from Saturday will continue. Not an easy one, but am going for 2-1 to the Blues

McGee
Thompson Burgess Clarke McCrory
Lowe O'Keefe May Kennedy
Pitman
Chaplin

Interesting one this. Jimmy F-H got off to a good start on Saturday but we got back on track too with a handy win over the wombles.

Don't normally fancy us for a Tuesday evening away game but there is a very solid look to our team now. I'll go for 0-1 Pompey win (Lowe)

Massive result for us on Saturday getting our season off the mark. Seems like JFH is going to be asking our players to press quite high and we were holding on second half Saturday as the players tire, can see a few changed being made just to freshen things up. Seeing a 1-1 draw here.

Just when we thought our back 4 was the most solid part of our team!

Really poor errors for all three goals, but it's not all doom and gloom, I thought we played ok throughout and particularly in the second half.

Football is crazy. 21 shots to 4 and we lose 3-1..

A large portion of those came from distance and shots that were blocked. We were clinical when opportunities came our way. Pompey definitely build up a head of steam early in the second half and possibly should of got it back to 2-2 but then the 3rd goal killed the game.

Mcgee looked really shaky from crosses (although the weather was horrendous)and thought he was at fault for the first from your perspective as he was really slow to get out.

We are much more disciplined under JFH already and better at keeping a shape but still a lot of work to be done, 6 points in his first week is a great start though!

Unfortunately we've played and created alot less and won this season. I'd rather get beaten because we were outplayed, ala Oxford away. Seems Northampton have had a slice of good fortune, good defending/goal keeping. 5 shots on target in 2 games=4 goals is pretty good going to be fair tho! If Lowe had his shooting boots on it could have been a very different story. End of the day the score says 3-1 regardless and you won't be fussed how you get the 6 points

The header he missed looked like a real sitter, from my angle the side footer looked top corner bound as well.

Our expected goals must be pretty low at the moment but I am happy that we are taking the chances that are coming our way!

I think for most sides coming up from league 2 its not an easy division to get to grips with. League 2 you can make tons of mistakes and get away with it. We are slowly building and getting used to it. Lowe was playing for Hampton and Richmond before xmas last season so he's still having to adapt to league football.

Hes ace! His ability on the ball is excellent, still seems to be gaining in fitness but his class stands out a mile away. I assume we will have no chance of keeping him beyond this season but looks a great pick up. His delivery from set pieces is fantastic as well.

Tale of two goalkeepers for me, one had a great night, pretty much dealt with everything that came his way and made some superb saves. The other really struggled with the weather and in all honesty didn't have the strongest defence in front of him. That being said I thought Portsmouth were better than the result demonstrated, they certainly look like a club on the up for me compared to the one we were playing 2 seasons ago.

Its a shame JFH was not around earlier...it may well have stopped the derby being a complete anti-climax.

That's good to hear!

I was concerned he'd drop like a stone after last season at Leeds but he's certainly a talented lad who will get better and better at that level. Hope he keeps doing the business....
